...In 2004, one of the most notorious albums was made, The Grey Album. It consisted of Jay-Z’s Black Album and The Beatle’s White Album. DJ Danger Mouse created this mash-up album without the permission of Jay-Z or The Beatles. The album included acapellas and instrumentals from both of the albums. As of result of this, recording company EMI filed a cease-and-desist letter to Danger Mouse as he started to distribute and sell the album. A fellow music group by the name of Negativland released a song with the name U2 on the front cover. Negativland sampled the song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking for” and outtakes from the host of American Top 40, Casey Kasem. Negativland never received permission to use any of U2’s work. As soon as Negativland released the album for retail, recording company Island Records and Warner-Chappell Music filed a lawsuit against Negativland and their record company. The lawsuit ended with Negativland recalling all the copies of the single and having to pay over $70,000 in damages and legal costs. Artists should not be allowed to use each other’s work. According to the case study, Negativland claims “Our work is an authentic and original whole, being much more than the sum of its samples”. In other words, Negativland does acknowledge that they in fact did use U2’s work but it should be looked at as more than that. Negativland’s work is not original and is just refurbished pieces of some other artist’s work. It’s been said that true creativity is...

...------------------------------------------------- Taxonomy and systematics[edit] Two subspecies are universally accepted:[1] * Congo African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus erithacus): This is the nominate subspecies, larger than the Timneh at about 33 cm (13 in) long, with light-grey feathers, cherry-red tails, and an all-black beak.[1] Immature birds of this subspecies have tails with a darker, duller red towards the tip (Juniper and Parr 1999) until their first moult, which occurs by 18 months of age. These birds also initially have grey irises, which change to a pale yellow colour by the time the bird is a year old. The Congo Grey Parrot is found on the islands of Príncipe and Bioko, and is distributed from southeastern Ivory Coast to western Kenya, northwest Tanzania, southern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and northern Angola. In aviculture, it is often called a "CAG". * Timneh African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus timneh, or Psittacus timneh): The Timneh African Grey Parrot is slightly smaller in size than the Congo, but intelligence and talking ability remain comparable. They can range from about 22–28 cm in total length, and are considered a medium size parrot. The Timneh has a darker charcoal grey colouring, a darker maroon tail, and a light, horn-coloured area to part of the upper mandible. Timneh parrots are endemic to the western parts of the moist Upper Guinea forests and bordering savannas of West Africa from Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone...

...Character He stood by the corner of the streets, seldomgazing into the distance. His dark flaky hair, roughand odorous suggested the fact he hadn’t had the satisfaction of a bath. His emeraldmilitary jacket; oncetartan green now faded to light grey, covered the untucked, split, and sweat-stained shirt which lay buried underneath. Filled with filth, the old pair of jeans he wore wascut in his knees and reposed four inches above his broad-brush ankles, uncovering the putrefaction that was deep within him. The greyness of everything that surrounded him gave the impression that the lingering shroud of darkness had consumed the sunlight, which once shone upon him that soon warred its way below the horizon of animaginary forest. The stillness in his eyes reminded me of the frozen souls who stood inanimately to the waning glare of the sun casting shadows of the figures of the deceased in a world only he knew of. A startlingly lissom, slender nose was above a distorted mouth with a smear of lines at the corners giving him the face of someone who smiled regularly, but his stiff jaw gave a portrait of a man who knew only one thing and that was failure. Looking deep into his eyes were two fiery balls with an intimidating nature. Hishair was like a grey ocean that swayed with the breeze of the wind. He had a mysterious aura about him, inflicting fear pheromones and perhaps even curiosity at first glance. He had vulgar eyes darker than the moon during an eclipse. My heart was beating furiously...

...“What is that?” “That, my little friend, is Curtis. We treat him as an individual. He’s something new.” The pair were standing under a battered old sign, one that displayed nothing but a barely discernible iron ‘T’, heavily rusted after years of withstanding the gentle sea breeze of the Dublin coast. The owner of the building, Joshua Travers, was a greying man, entering his late 40’s and slightly wrinkled. His large grey eyes focused on the squat, purple-haired creature before him, ignoring the wind in his speckled brown hair. He removed his waistcoat and set it on a hook by the door as he and his son, a scrawny pale-faced boy named Davey, entered the decrepit, old building. Davey smiled at Curtis as the pair passed, receiving nothing but a...

...was in your studio he never knew when to go, but would sit on and on until you nearly screamed, and burned to throw something enormous after him when he did finally blush his way out–something like the tortoise stove. The strange thing was that at first sight he looked most interesting. Everybody agreed about that. You would drift into the café one evening and there you would see, sitting in a corner, with a glass of coffee in front of him, a thin dark boy, wearing a blue jersey with a little grey flannel jacket buttoned over it. And somehow that blue jersey and the grey jacket with the sleeves that were too short gave him the air of a boy that has made up his mind to run away to sea. Who has run away, in fact, and will get up in a moment and sling a knotted handkerchief containing his nightshirt and his mother's picture on the end of a stick, and walk out into the night and be drowned. . . . Stumble over the wharf edge on his way to the ship, even. . . . He had black close-cropped hair, grey eyes with long [Page 219] lashes, white cheeks and a mouth pouting as though he were determined not to cry. . . . How could one resist him? Oh, one's heart was wrung at sight. And, as if that were not enough, there was his trick of blushing. . . . Whenever the waiter came near him he turned crimson–he might have been just out of prison and the waiter in the know. . . . "Who is he, my dear? Do you know?" "Yes. His name is Ian French. Painter. ...Our senses vary so many ways from the way we see certain things to the way we feel certain things. But how accurate are our senses really? We were born with these senses and they do strengthen over time, we adjust to things and we are a culture who are used to change. But what if we were born blind, would some of the senses we have be more powerful? In the next few paragraphs I’ll give you a few reasons of why we should and shouldn’t believe in the senses we are so used to... My first reason would have to be our sense of sight. Sight is: This technically is two senses given the two distinct types of receptors present, one for color (cones) and one for brightness (rods). Our sight is very important, it allows us to see what’s in front of us, say if a car is coming and we are walking then we can move out of the way. Or vision allows us to see what’s beautiful, it allows us to see how one’s life has changed. For those who have kids, your vision allows you to see your child from birth to the day he/she walks down that aisle to start his/her life. Although sight may seem all positive there are some negative drawbacks. Sometimes just because you see something doesn’t mean it’s true. You may see you two people fighting for example and just used to violence, but maybe there just playing. You may need your other senses to distinguish what’s really there. The ability to hear the sounds around us is an important quality-of-life. It can help us distinguish two people fighting to just...

...GREY GOO Nanotechnologies run amuck? Grey Goo was first termed back in 1986 by Eric Drexler. “Engines of Creation” is a term that denotes a technological process by which nanorobots self-replicate. In order to self-replicate they require raw materials and those raw materials are found all around us, the resulting process creates grey goo(or a nanobot swarm). The nightmare scenario is that we would create a runaway self-replicating machine that would turn into a plague and destroy all life, turning everything into Grey Goo.(Jones,2004) PUBLIC PERCEPTION AND ACCEPTANCE Change is not always accepted nor is it quick to enter the market. So it has been with the acceptance of Nanotechnology. Genetically modified (GM) foods are one such advancement that has had problems entering the world’s food markets, with some countries outright banning the sale of GM foods. Early education showing future, tangible benefits will be key in the wholesale acceptance of these new technologies. It will be the lack of these tangible benefits that will keep the public hesitant in accepting nanotechnology. (Siegrist,2009) Even though for the most part the US has been accepting of nanotechnology much of Europe has been contained in their acceptance. Most of the reasons behind this division of acceptance were primarily due to the lack of knowledge or the understanding of technology behind nano and the inherent risk that might be associated with it. Still citizens hope that nanomedicine will live up to some...

...Social learning process is very complicated and normally requires some guidance. Without proper guidance from an experienced member of the society, no one can develop sound social learning skills. In most cases, learning takes the formal or informal inclinations and occurs in day-to-day lives a people. Therefore, it becomes quite imperative to know how to tackle different issues that affect one’s life insofar as one remains a social urgent in the society. Based on this background, this paper looks into the social education that takes place in the lives of characters in the novel Agnes Grey. Throughout the novel, there is a series of learning processes that take place. The learning is majorly received through instructions that people acquire from others around them. From the beginning, the novel talks about all true histories containing instructions (Bronte 1). This is a critical predict that gives a clear indication that the book has a lot to do with learning. According to fuller and Stone the learning process is embedded in mixture of different cultural and family practices. These include family languages, and social customs (154). The main character in the novel, Agnes, notes that her mother took charge of their educating her sister Mary and herself. Their father also took initiative of teaching them Latin (Bronte 2). This was very useful to her. As Barbarin and Wasik note, the crucial role of social education and use of cultural based learning, have the potential of transforming...

...The Grey Zone Whose responsibility is it to ensure that workplaces are safe, especially when work is outsourced? Strategic managers have the responsibility to ensure that work places are safe when work is outsourced. Strategic decision makers must consider many aspects when pursuing international strategies (Coulter, 2013, p.198). Before doing business internationally, however, strategic managers need to explore, examine, and understand as best as they can, the important issues in the international environment (Coulter, 2013, p.198). Although outsourcing work has its advantages, the drawbacks must also be considered. Some safety concerns could include: 1) differences in language, culture, and value systems, 2) ethnic, religious, and cultural tensions, and 3) disruptive changes such as terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and disease outbreak. Differences in language and culture may cause difficulty in implementing safety protocol. The employees may not fully comprehend what you want, due to the language barrier. The culture of the country that you’re outsourcing your work to may not value safety. This can be a huge risk if you are operating machinery. Ethnic concerns are also important. How the country that your business is based in is, viewed by the country that you’re relocating to?
