A New Face of Stark State College's Respiratory Therapy Program

I recently had the opportunity to speak with Stark County native Ms. Ann Lennox. She has been attending Stark State College for quite some time. Her accomplishments include being state licensed in nursing assisting and paramedic/emergency medical technologies. Lennox's most recent endeavor is finishing the Respiratory Therapy Program at Stark State College. Performing at the top of her class will make her a fine asset for any hospital organization.
Ms. Lennox is a thirty –one year old Caucasian female mother of one. She has been in healthcare for over ten years. That ten years has consisted of employment as a state tested nursing assistant, and as an emergency paramedic. Her hobbies consist of spending time with her family, taking naps, and listening to music. When asked why she chose the medical field to pursue a career Ms. Lennox told me she has always had a passion for life or death situations and gory traumas. It is definitely a comfortable environment for her. Once she completes her two year associate degree program she will be able to become a state licensed Respiratory Therapist and employable at any hospital in the state that issues her license.
I asked Ms. Lennox to give me a rough draft of her five to ten year plan for her future. It was amazing to find out that even after finishing her current program there is still more education she plans to pursue. Her ultimate goal is to become a senior therapist and be able to supervise and train others. Also, Ms. Lennox would like to relocate to warmer climates and therefore would have to apply for a license in her relocated state. There are also continuing education classes that have to be completed to keep any state license current. These guidelines/classes are set by each state to ensure medical professionals have to most up to date information to ensure the highest level of patient care.
Our interview concluded with the topic of working in the medical field having an effect on healthy life style habits. Ms. Lennox gave up smoking, limits her alcohol use, and does not text and drive. She has seen firsthand the effects of smoking on the lungs and has been present for traumas that involved accidents from texting and driving.
To say the least the interview was an eye opener. I have a background in the medical field but am pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications. The two fields definitely have the ability to work hand in hand. To be a hospital administrator one must possess a degree in business, communications, or humans resources. There is never a dull moment in the medical field as times and technologies are always changing.
