...Growing up times were hard but as a family we learned how to make it through any situation. Coming up my father was in and out of prison so certain things a man should teach his child I learned on my own or from my mother but there was only so much she could teach me. I have a very large family my mother who has five children and my father who has six so I have always had the physical support maybe not the money but we have always managed to stay afloat. I am originally from Houston Texas the south west side a small hood called Braeswood, it was always my mother and her five with no support from any of our fathers. At a young age I learned how to make money to get the things that my mother couldn’t provide me in life and how to put that extra...

...Life came easy for me growing up. Being an only child got you a lot of things. Bad things never really happened to me. Typically it all just went my way. But one year changed my perspective of everything. My elementary days were pretty simple, grades didn’t really matter too much. 5th grade finally came along and I was beyond excited to be the oldest. The school year started out amazing and I was ecstatic with how it was going. Then it all took a terribly wrong turn. First it was my dog, otherwise known as my best friend. Rex had stopped eating for a while and my family grew concerned. They took him into the vet one day while I was in school. I came home to see my family on the driveway waiting for my return. I rushed over to see tears from...

...When you think about growing up, what do you think? Becoming a teenager? Getting a dog? Well when I think about growing up I think about this summer when I got my first job. Let me explain. So every summer I go to my dad's house in Iowa ( my side of my dad's family lives down there too). On the long ride to Iowa my dad was saying “ Hunter I want you to get a job this summer. How about you work with your grandfather?” Then I told him “ sure why not I wanted a job anyways.” So after the long drive down to Iowa (and along time of listening to music.) I said to dad after a few days of settling in “I will ask grandpa if I can work with him when I seen him.”A couple of weeks later when the fourth of July came I asked Grandpa “can I work...

...I have always been a relatively short person, standing at (exactly) 5'3.5" tall. My mother's side of the family consistently stands at 6'0" or taller, while my father's side averages a bit smaller than even I am; clearly one set of my genes dominates. The half inch is, of course, very important. When I penciled my height in on my learner's permit application, the man at the DMV graciously rounded my height up to 5'4", a whole 0.3" above the average woman's height reported by the CDC. In my day-to-day life, I am constantly reminded of my height. I have heard and seen it all, from "Whoops! Didn't see you down there" as I am nearly trampled in the hallway, to having my shoulder used as an armrest for someone comfortably above average height. When I want attention, I have to speak a bit louder, deepen my voice a bit more, tilt my...

...that question is no because this person does not exist. Rough experiences in life change you. They create your sense of mind; they change your principles, your beliefs, and strengthen you. Growing up, people experience a number of different things that change their perspective on life. They range from your first car accident, to your first broken heart, to the first death in your family. For me, it was the moment when I had transitioned from the carefree, eager child I was to a responsible adult. I had just turned eight years old. Being given a grasp of reality at such a young age had its toll on me. I could not pretend everything around me was all rainbows and sunshine any longer. When I was eight years old I realized I was not happy. It was hard to be happy knowing that the people I had looked up to my entire life were not. These people were my parents. My mother...

...Growing Up for Me Growing up for me was different but similar to the way Jeanette Walls grew up in The Glass Castle. Like Rex Walls, my dad drank and smoked cigarettes and went drinking every night. I was too young to realize it at the time, but now it scares me whenever he goes to a bar. He has never gotten physical once he has too much to drink, but he does like to yell and cuss. It scares me to this day. Due to my father smoking in wherever we lived, I can’t be in a confined space with cigarette smoke because it makes me nauseous to be around a lot of people who smoke. That was also one of the smells that were familiar to me whenever he was around. Not only did he smoke, but so did his friends that hung around us whenever I would go up to the bowling alley with him for his bowling league. Another thing that is similar but different is the moving....

...What Are the Effects of Growing Up in Poverty? Poverty is the state of being extremely poor or having very little. Poverty is everywhere in today’s society, especially in richer cities. Poverty today is rising and whether you are in poverty or not is a rising scale, so even you can technically be counted as poverty in your city. The effects of poverty are some of the worst experiences a family or even a town can go through. Poverty can be caused by many mistakes, but it can affect your family or town’s education, development, crime, social mobility, and social spending. ...My life has had its ups and downs like many other people. The successes have gave me confidence and the willpower to continue to strive for more success. The few failures I’ve had taught me lessons and have given me motivation for my life goals. Starting school very young at a private christian school was a challenge for me at first. I didn’t understand why I had to pray every school day and if praying had a purpose for me. The teachers and other students didn’t bother me much during my time there. I made little friends mostly throughout kindergarten and 5th grade mostly because I was a quiet kid. Another challenge I faced growing up was that I moved closer to the north side of San Antonio in the middle of 2nd grade. I did transfer to a better...

...What is the right age for kids to start to grow up? Kids should enjoy being young and carefree. They should be able to know what’s right for their age and what’s not. Many kids today are not enjoying their time being kids. They are taking on responsibilities that they shouldn’t at their age. The Internet, influences, and trends are making these kids grow up way too fast. To begin with, the Internet has a big effect on the kids now days which cause them to grow up too early. ...University of Phoenix Material Research Plan As part of your research plan, you must first draft a research question for your research paper that will guide the rest of your writing. A research question, which is more specific and focused than a general topic, is the question that your research paper will answer. For example, if your general area of interest is social security, a possible research question might ask, “How can low-income families save more money if the United States had a reformed social security plan that includes personal retirement accounts?” As you develop a research question, remember that you need to research sources to support your topic. Do not pick a one-sided question that will limit your research. Instead, develop a research question that lends itself to further exploration and debate—a question you genuinely want to know the answer to. Try to pick a research question that is neither too broad (covering too much) or too narrow (covering too little). It should be broad enough to be discussed in a short research paper. Part 1: Complete the Research Plan |What is your general topic or area of interest? |My general topic of interest is Drugs. I raise a child that was born | | |addicted, and feel this topic will be very helpful and insightful in | | |helping me raise this child properly...

Why or why not? TKO, “Technical Knockout”, is single channel EKG, Bella Healthcare India is planning to launch in Indian market. As per my opinion, Bella has many reasons to take up this opportunity. I will categorise these reasons in two broad categories, External and Internal factors. First external factor that affects decision of Bella to take TKO is large population of India with insufficient health care services. India’s population is large and growing but healthcare facilities are not growing with the same rate. Also most of the medical facilities of the country are concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural area with insufficient healthcare facilities. Unfortunately, most of the Indian population stays in small towns and villages. Another fact, in line with this, is availability of less no of physicians and specialists in the field of heart diseases. This has created room for medical services and devices sellers to expand their businesses in the country. The EKG global revenue chart shows that between 2010 and 2015, 9% – 12% of the global revenue will come from Asia-Pacific. As one of the...

The country imports just about everything as such this limits the amount of foreign exchange that could contribute effectively to the country’s development. The importation of paper is an area of concern which we believe must receive careful attention and must be seriously addressed. Paper is a resource that is utilized daily in many operations if not all and this precious resource has to be imported from other countries while the resources available in the country which could be adequately utilized in producing this heavily used commodity are being wasted. The parish of St. Thomas is indeed a parish that possess a vast amount of coconut husks and hibiscus leaves which could be used to create paper which will...

...Summer 2001 issue of Contemporary Accounting Research we published a paper arguing that, given a full set of forecasted financial statements, the value estimates from a residual income model and a discounted cash flow model should yield identical results. The reason prior empirical studies (Penman and Sougiannis 1998 and Francis, Olsson, and Oswald 2000) found differences between the models is because of subtle errors in the implementation of the models. Penman (2001) understandably takes issue with our paper, claiming that we are wrong on three points. We feel quite confident in our original paper and will rebut each of Penman’s claims. Penman repeatedly states that he is interested in practical issues surrounding valuation. We share this interest; in fact, we were motivated to write our paper because of the common question raised by students and faculty: “Why do I get a different answer from my discounted cash flow valuation than from my residual income valuation?” We still maintain that, if carefully done, there will be no difference in the valuations from these theoretically equivalent models. Our paper shows exactly how to do this and illustrates commonly made mistakes. Further, any practical attempt to value a firm begins with forecasting future financial statements — earnings and book values at a minimum — and then constructs from these estimates the valuation attributes of interest. All the empirical papers discussed in our original paper started with a complete set of pro forma...

I was the child who other children confided in or came to when they wanted to talk or needed help with a problem. When growing up it was not common for black people to go to counseling. Families kept secrets among themselves and sometimes those secrets came back to haunt people many years later. When faced with problems people relied on their spiritual beliefs, the support of the family, and sometimes close friends. If a girl had gotten pregnant and not married that would have been kept top secret. Usually a family member would raise the baby and no one would ever speak openly about it. My family had to deal with the death of two of my brothers at young ages. It hurt my mother deeply having to deal with the loss of two children because of violence. These tragedies were never discussed even as we became adults. As I became older I realized that my mother and our entire family should have gotten counseling. It was not until after my mother passed that my uncle shared...

...1) What opportunities in the marketing environment did Gannett seize in launching USA Today? How did the company learn about and respond to the opportunities? Answer these same questions for USATODAY.COM. One of the opportunities that Gannett Co., Inc. noticed in the marketing environment that led to the launch of USA Today was a void in the newspaper market that targeted Middle America. The New York Times targeted those defined as the “nation’s intellectual elite” and The Wall Street Journal focused its effects towards business leaders. Through research, Gannett learned that the paper should target “achievement-oriented men in professional and managerial positions who were heavy newspaper readers and frequent travelers.” Gannett decided to act upon two trends in the reading public, in which there was a declining attention span in reading for a generation that had grown/ was growing up with television, as well as people’s growing desire to have more information at their disposal. Keeping these perspectives in mind, Gannett wanted to produce a newspaper would deliver more news in less time. To do this,...
