...The Grudge Trials In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Miller shows the reader that rivalries and grudges can drive people to do crazy things. In The Crucible, the puritan community of 1600s Salem received a chance to reap revenge on people they had problems and disputes with by accusing others of witchcraft, which would either leave the accused dead or their name ruined. Everyone from Thomas Putnam, a land owner greedy for land, to Abigail Williams, a teenager involved in adultery, accused others due to personal rivalries and grudges. Abigail Williams is most known for accusing Elizabeth Proctor, a religious woman and wife of the man with whom Abigail had the affair. When Elizabeth hears of the incident, she immediately fires Abigail, which leads Abigail to believe that Elizabeth is cold and callous. Abigail’s jealousy of Elizabeth leads her to accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft and she has Mary Warren, a servant to the Proctors, place a poppet, or small doll, made to be Abigail with a needle in her side, into the Proctor’s home. With this happening, Elizabeth believes that Abigail “thinks to take my place” (II.384) as John’s wife by ensuring she is hung. It is Abigail’s personal rivalry with Elizabeth over John’s attention that sets the stage for others to seek vengeance in court. Thomas Putnam is a wealthy land owner in Salem greedy for as much land as he can buy. Putnam and his family accuse Francis Nurse, an amicable man, due to a desire for Nurse’s land. Putnam...

...way today. On page 128, Chapter 1, summary of the chapter, "Agamemnon insults the priest of Apollo, causing Apollo to punish the Greeks… Achilles and Agamemnon argue, and as a result, Agamemnon takes Achilles' prize of honor. Achilles, in turn, retaliates by withdrawing from battle". Maybe war is a little bit too far from our everyday life, how about substituting the army with a basketball team. You are the star athlete of the team, and the team captain stole your girl friend. Would you quit the team for this? It is true that the team captain is in the wrong, but without you in the team, your teammates will lose. Is it really worth it to sacrifice the hard work of your teammates for your personal grudge? Or is it better to stay in the team and deal with this personal grudge without affecting other innocent people? This is a lesson that asks us to look at the big picture, and to look at what should really be our concern. On page 139, Chapter 4, Odysseus tried to persuade Achilles into rejoining the army, but Achilles says, "Neither Agamemnon nor any other bronze-coated Greek will persuade me to rejoin the battle, for it seems that no one appreciates the warrior who fights without rest. he who remains at home receives the same gifts as he who fights his best; the coward is honored equally with the brave man; and death is the fate of both the man who is idle and the man who works hard". He goes on to say that he gave all of what he plundered to Agamemnon, Agamemnon kept...

...play which uncloaks the true emotion of love. A play which portrays the tragedies, tensions and disagreements that arise between the families of two lovers, and how platonic love can be mitigated with loathsome feelings resulting in death. Is it fair for a feeling like love, so pure to result in death? Before act 1 scene 1 starts, the opening lines of the prologue are salient because they tell the audience of what could be and what should be fairness and dignity, the words 'ancient grudge break to new mutiny' sets up a powerful contrast to what is the violence, hatred and bloodshed to be shown in the first scene. Also Shakespeare refers to historical context by using the word 'ancient' and how an ancient grudge evolves into new mutiny, this shows that an old disagreement is now a fight which is characterized by the animosity of the citizens, this is stated by the phrase 'civil blood makes civil hands unclean' which further suggests that even the ordinary citizens who have nothing to do with the grudge of the two families are becoming murderers. Adding on, the audience become aware and realise the fact that violence will definitely occur. Due to this fact the tension begins to build right from the start. In addition to this, the prologue gives a brief summary of the play and includes an oxymoron 'death-marked love' this gives the audience a contrast because they would not expect love and death to be associated with each other which furthermore increases the conflict as the realise...

Montresor lives as if there has been no wrong doing, until he ponders up what he feels is the perfect impunitistic act of revenge. "I must not only punish but punish with impunity. ...In the novel The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger illustrates that Holden carries a deep grudge against the world. Hence, after closely studying Holden’s character, one can state that his bitterness and grudge acts as a cover for his own insecurities. Throughout the story, Holden seems to be in a continuous war with himself, constantly trying to escape from his inner discord and turmoil. As a result, he is often caught judging others, and isolating himself from the rest of the world. Holden is also seen as an immature adolescent who finds comfort in viewing the world from only his own stubborn perspectives, because he finds others viewpoints to be fake and flawed. Thus, these reasons explain why Holden’s grudge against the world is just a cover for his own insecurities. While reading the novel, it can be seen...

People may grow stronger as they overcome all bad things, or even their own fear. Everything takes time. Nothing in life is always perfect. No one makes all the good things happen quickly. No one makes all the bad things happen quickly. Although all things start from people, humans have also started with a gift of choice. Also known as free will. Whether we choose to be positive or negative, good or bad, we make these things happen by taking time. For example, If I were to choose to get mad at my friend, it would take time for this to happen. ...interests of one individual pupil. If a pupil feels that the individual demands is not fulfilled the outbreak can be devastating. ...said, “An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind”. The desire to settle a score for old and new grudges only leaves chaos and waste in its wake. Throughout the ages vengeance has played an important role in history and literature. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller the theme vengeance is portrayed as neighbor turns on neighbor. First, as the theme vengeance reoccurs throughout the play The Crucible many people end up turning on each other to exact their revenge. For example, Hale is in the home of the Proctors when he brings up how Rebecca Nurse’s and others names got brought up in court. ...of UFOs reported to be seen around the country and determine what they were. The project concluded that most of the cases they looked into were various objects misidentified as UFOs. They did say that some were not as easily dismissed but the government did not want to hear that and Project Sign was later closed down. Next, Project Sign was revived under the new name Project Grudge. The premise was much the same as the original Project Sign, but this introduced the idea of discrediting people and their ideas and performing duties in line with public relations. Project Grudge did not follow in Project Sign’s footsteps and declared that even the unexplained cases did have a terrestrial explanation, even if it was unorthodox. Project Grudge worked closer with the public and the ramifications of their work was more apparent. This lead to a more mainstream view of aliens and visitations, with an explosion of science fiction films based on aliens. Movie aliens could be either malevolent or benevolent, wanting to take over the planet or try to be helpful to a young planet that is beginning to grow. Project Grudge helped to curtail people who believed from gaining a voice by creating an environment that dismissed believers as lunatics. The government took advantage of the media for this purpose. Between the government requesting writers to publish articles in famous newspapers to allowing films and television shows to have a creative license with the portrayal of aliens. Since Hollywood...

...have the tendency to accept the single story as an only story, that repeating in front of us over and over again. we also have the tendency to accept a single story on a base of our personal liking and sometimes grudges. Once when I was in high school I had a fight with one of my class fellow, we never got the chance to clear out grudges. One day I lost one of my assignment. I tried to look everywhere, then one of my friends told me that other class fellow purposely hid it and I believed in that without thinking anything else because I had a grudge and bad feeling about him. In TED talk Adichie blamed western literature for the single story if Africa. She gave some examples in order to strengthen her arguments. In her example she read some sentences from John Locke’s writing that is “After referring to the black Africans as "beasts who have no houses," he writes, "They are also people without heads, having their mouth and eyes in their breasts”. She is right that this statement is ridiculous, but Adichie can’t blame entire western literature for the single story of Africa by giving this example only. She can’t assume that her roommate got all the information about Africa is from the literature. I feel like this is her another single story based on may be the grudges which came from reading bad stories written by western authors, about how people got the single story of Africa, which also support my point about the role of human nature in accepting the single story. ...

...Life will have its obstacles some can be meaningless and the answer will be clear as day. However there will be those challenges that will define who you are as a person. Its happened to me, I’ve had to dig deep and take a moment to see what really is important to me. Self-reflecting I found what life lessons define who I am as a human. That is why I profess treating others as you’d like to be treated, work hard for what is important to you and don’t hold grudges. Those three lessons have gotten me out of the toughest and most challenging situations life has thrown at me. The golden rule, we’ve all heard about it countless books and nursery rhymes are based solely on the idea of treating others, as you’d like to be treated. It’s a principle in the bible “whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also for them” Mathew 7:12 Treating others the way Id like to be treated gives me self-satisfaction that’s a feeling like no other. The most recent time that I remember feeling self satisfaction was about a week ago. Driving from Kansas to Arkansas you wont see much but open fields cars and the occasional cowherd. But halfway through my drive I saw a man walking down the highway I glanced at my GPS there was nothing for miles. I quickly pulled over to the right side of the road and asked him if he needed a ride. He was in shock but said yes at first there was an awkward silence, but that all ended when he realized I was in the army. He told me he was in the army and served...
