...people and governments of Europe; in fact, one of his main enemies, King Philip IV of France, incited a rivalry between the two that caused much strife in Italy at the time (Suddath). Boniface eventually died in 1303, but not before personally exiling Dante for supporting limits on the Pope’s power, which saw him placed in Dante’s version of Hell. Another power struggle in Europe at the time included the war between the Guelph party, who supported the Pope, and the Ghibelline party, who supported the Holy Roman Empire. After many fierce battles between the two parties culminating in the defeat of the Ghibellines, the Guelphs again split into two parties, causing the creation of the White and Black Guelphs. The Black Guelphs specifically supported the “power of popes in the struggle for hegemony in the [Italian] peninsula,”; the White Guelphs supported limits on the pope’s power to help the growing middle class (Popham). Dante, being born into the White Guelphs, was eventually banished from Florence by the Black Guelphs, causing him to place many prominent Black Guelphs and Ghibellines in Hell. A final event in the church-state conflict that made its way into Dante’s work was the...

...1 Rivers and Environmental History HIST 2250 M. A. Cyphers-Reiche Jack Hallett 0710476 ! The natural world is full of a variety of diverse ecological landscapes, terrains and habitats, many of which have been altered by human society over time. Rivers are no exception, as societies have modified and altered many rivers around the world for navigation and economic purposes. The Rhine, Mississippi, and Volga rivers were modernized and transformed by engineers who were at the forefront of the technological and industrial renaissance during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It was not until the mid - late 1900s that society became concerned about the environmental impacts that previous generations had incurred. This paper will be examining two articles, Mark Cioc’s The Rhine as a World River, and Dorothy ZeislerVralsted’s The Cultural and Hydrological Development of the Mississippi and Volga Rivers, which explore the history the three rivers as they have been affected and damaged by society for decades. Donald Worster’s three clusters of issues that environmental history focuses on will be used for comparing the two articles. ! The first of Worster’s three issues is do the authors of the articles exhibit an understanding of the natural world during the time period they are studying? In a short answer, yes, they do. Both articles are rich with information and references about species of wildlife, environmental conditions, water pollution and more, providing statistics...

Section-D On 23rd July, 2011 Letter of Transmittal To Mr. Paul Stevenson, Vice-President, Manufacturing, W. C. Wood Company. Subject: Analysis report on proposal to change the packaging of the Company’s product line With reference to your request for a report on the proposal to change the packaging of the Company’s product line, please find attached the same. After careful analysis and consideration of the options, I recommend that we should adopt clear pack packaging and install Lachenmeier equipments simultaneously at all plants. Detailed analysis is presented in the enclosed report. Regards, XYZ, Assistant to the VP, Manufacturing, W. C. Wood Company, 8th January, 2004. Executive Summary W. C. Wood Company has been considering a proposal to change the packaging of their product lines from cardboard to ‘clear pack’. A shift to clear pack would bring down the high expenditures on damage warranty claims and increase ease of handling. But the huge capital expenditure involved with the shift should also be taken into account. We should decide whether to shift to the new packaging and if so the timeline for the implementation...

...When choosing food, we are always considering factors that will ultimately influence our selection, whether it be how good the item will taste or will it look as good as it does on the packaging. We consider things like these during our purchases whether we’re aware of it or not which is why it’s more important now more than ever that when making food choices, we should consider factors not only consciously but also cautiously. There’re many factors that need to be considered that ideally guides us with making the right decision but these factors can be narrowed down to three. The three main factors that we should consider are those that regard, our health, the financial aspects of food and religious guidelines. We as individuals tend to prioritise one factor over the other. This results in some factors being seen as less relevant and neglected, and we will see just why it’s so important to consider these factors equally as in spite of the importance of these factors, we aren’t always diligent in tending to all of them with equal consideration. The first factor to be considered is our health. Naturally, we eat food to nourish ourselves and sustain our survival . It’s important to consider health and nutritional factors of the food items we choose to consume as it...

...2. A description of the main issues raised in the case from the point of view of logistics management This report outlines issues Hammond Manufacturing’s Transformer group faced in cooperation within the entire Hammond Group. The main issue was described by Hammond’s management as late delivery from the cabinetry plant to the Guelph plant what displeased customers and caused numerous delays on production site. All problems can be divided in 5 general groups and will be described in detail further: 1. Forecasting Issues 2. Production Scheduling Issues 3. Organizational Issues 4. Process Strategy Issues 5. New Demand Management Issues 2.1. Forecasting Issues The sales team created forecasts in October for the following calendar year by product lines for all products, based on this forecast the both plants planned their productions and orders accordingly. The company revised its forecasts on a quarterly basis. Production planners reviewed performance monthly and weekly then changed the production schedule when its original forecast proved inaccurate. But frequent changes in customer demand and design caused serious production disorder and delays in orders fulfilment. Creating a new production schedule on a monthly basis did not help as the supply chain had been already filled in based on the old one. Moreover, forecasting inaccuracy resulted in too little or too much inventory, which was not enough to fulfil unexpected sales demands. 2.2. Production Scheduling Issues ...

...Mindfulness and Its Role in Psychological Well-Being By: Justin Tang, ID #0827635 Psychology 1000*01 Benjamin Giguere Tuesday, November 18, 2014 Introduction Despite the fact that the mind, body and spirit are interconnected, there is a tendency to forget about—or even neglect—our psychological well-being. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, for example, one in five of us will experience a mental illness in our lifetime (CMHA, 2014). Though this statistic is in part due to the stigma associated with mental health, there are various methods in which we can protect and promote our psychological wellbeing. More importantly, given that suffering is inevitable and arrives in innumerable guises (e.g. stress, depression, confusion), how can one become less disturbed by the unpleasant experiences in life? By introducing the concept, this paper will argue that mindfulness can be used to as a tool to achieve greater psychological well-being. Known as a deceptively simple but useful attention-regulating practice, mindfulness allows one to be less reactive to what is happening in the moment and accepting of all experiences—be it positive, negative, or neutral (Germer, 2004). Defining Mindfulness What, exactly, is mindfulness? Although there has been a call in the literature to reconstruct aspects of current mindfulness models, including the establishment of a mutually agreed upon definition and application of the term (Germer 2004), mindfulness is best...

In our analysis, we considered three possible options in determining where to locate the funeral homes: an area with a high number of old people and low death rate in their population, an area with a high number of old people and high death rate in their population and an area with low number of old people and high death rate. We also used the fair share calculations and areas with at least 170 deaths per funeral on average every year as part of the metrics 2.0 RECOMMENDATIONS 2.1 Fair Share Analysis Based on the fair share calculations, which is total market divided by the number of funeral homes in the market. The four potential locations would be St Catharines with the highest fair market share of 9.87%; Kingston with 8.51%; Hamilton with 7.84%; London with 7.19% and Cambridge with 6.36%.
