...Test An electric guitar is a guitar that uses a pickup to convert the vibration of its strings into electrical impulses. The most common guitar pickup uses the principle of direct electromagnetic induction. The signal generated by an electric guitar is too weak to drive a loudspeaker, so it is amplified before sending it to a loudspeaker. Since the output of an electric guitar is an electric signal, the signal may easily be altered using electronic circuits to add "color" to the sound. Often the signal is modified using effects such as reverb and distortion. Invented in 1931, the electric guitar became a necessity as jazz musicians sought to amplify their sound in the big band format. During the 1950s and 1960s, the electric guitar became the most important instrument in pop music.[1] It has evolved into a stringed musical instrument that is capable of a multitude of sounds and styles. It served as a major component in the development of rock and roll and many other genres of music. ------------------------------------------------- History Various experiments at electrically amplifying the vibrations of a string instrument date back to the early part of the twentieth century. Patents from the 1910s show telephone transmitters adapted and placed inside violins and banjos to amplify the sound. Hobbyists in the 1920s used carbon button microphones attached to the bridge, however these detected vibration from the bridge on top of the instrument, resulting in a weak signal.[2] With...

...Zia Mohiuddin Dagar or Z.M. Dagar, was a renowned Hindustani classical musician, famous for being a master of the rudra veena, a large plucked string instrument used in Hindustani classical music, and essentially reviving it as a solo concert instrument. Z.M. Dagar is well known in the Hindustani music world for modifying and redesigning the rudra veena by incorporating effective components in the instrument. As a result of his modifications, the rudra veena produced a soft and deep sound when plucked, vastly improving the overall quality of the Hindustani classical music instrument. Dagar was born in the town of Udaipur, Rajasthan in 1929. As a child, he began his studies in music with his father, Ustad Ziauddin Khan Dagar, a court musician for the Maharaja of Udaipur. Z.M. Dagar received training in both vocals and in the rudra veena. Interestingly enough, the rudra veena, an instrument designed to be used by vocalists to practice melodies, was traditionally not played in public. However, a young Dagar adopted the rudra veena as his primary instrument and even delivered his first recital at the age of 16. Dagar’s father discouraged his son from experimenting with the structure of the rudra vina however, after his father passed away, Dagar transformed the instrument to better equip it for solo performances by modifying it into a large bass instrument (often referred to as a “Dagar vina”) and various other tweaks such as enlarging the “tumbas” or gourds and the “dhandhi”...

...want to end up as the center piece of someone’s Thanksgiving dinner table. I have a plan of where I will hide this Thanksgiving season. If I, the turkey, get caught, I will be slaughtered in a heartbeat. To solve that problem, I will have to disguise myself. First, I will go to New York City. It is pretty crowded there, so I don’t think I’ll be spotted. That also means that there are a lot of turkey-hungry people. I will disguise myself as a news reporter. I’ll get my turkey friend to hold the camera and I will have a microphone. Next, I will go to Mexico. I will get my talented makeup artist to make me a mask. I will then go to a Mexican restaurant. I’ll have my own mariachi band playing songs with me. I’ll have my best sombrero and a guitar in my hand. My final stop will be Honolulu, Hawaii. To get there, I will dress up as a business man and ride in 1st class on the airplane. I will have cool shades and a suit and tie. When I arrive in Honolulu, I will go into a public restroom and change into my hula girl outfit. I will go around with a grass skirt, lei, and a wig on. My plan for this Thanksgiving will hopefully work. I think I won’t get caught. Looking ahead, I need to make plans for Christmas. I am nervous that my real identity will be discovered, but I have confidence in myself. In my great turkey escape, I will go to New York City, Mexico, and...

...us by the Revolution age with some in their original form and prevalent. Men from all different classes, from slaves and indentured servants to Thomas Jefferson, played fiddles or violins. While prices varied from high to low violins were usually imported in great numbers. In addition to popular instruments such as the violin, the flute happens to be another prominent instrument that was driven by man. 1 Woman had limited musical options due to high levels of “maintaining reputation” for men. Wealthy woman mostly played harpsichords which they played for friends and family. Another first choice instrument for woman was a English guitar, a 10 string, tear-drop shaped, C chord which is now extinct. The Baroque guitar was also in style, which represents the small version of a classical guitar with gut strings, which also has 10 strings. The 6 strand guitar didn’t evolve until the 1820’s...

...Collins "In The Air Tonight" is a strophic composition produced by Phil Collins. The aria consists of an electronic drum set an electric guitar and a prophet to add an additional fullness to the song. The exposition of the monody is at an adagio tempo. The electronic drum kit repeats a drum pattern with 12 drum hits in each loop, while accenting on every third beat {eg.1-2-1-2-1-2-1-22-1-2 | 11-2-1-2-1-2-1-22-1-2}. In the middle of the first loop the electric guitar roars a triple stopping that drags on for fifteen seconds, and is quickly followed by the sound of a nymph sounding guitar riff in the background accompanied by the prophet. The prophet presents the main melody of the song. A series of warm instruments accompany the drum pattern followed by the sound of Phil Collins's tenor voice reverbed a tad to add an eerieness to the song. He first announces in a slightly whispered, muffled voice: I can feel it in the air tonight, Oh Lord I've been waiting for this moment, for all my life, Oh, Lord Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord Oh Lord Afterwards the same guitar roars in for half the time it did before as Mr. Collins proceeds to go into the first verse of the song. After the first verse he returns back to the chorus this time with additional vocals that lags behind his every word and ends with the guitar roar once again that comes predictably at the same time. The first words to his second verse starts with the singer's voice tweaked up a bit with...

...note, and every rhythm. I have found that music can lift my spirits when they sink, can help me to look at the brighter side of a situation when all I see is darkness, and can find beauty in the simplest of things. When I was five years old, my parents bought me my first guitar. It was about twice the size of me. For the next two years, my fingers were covered with blisters from playing so much. “Just stick with it, and you could be the next Jeff Beck,” my dad would tell me. After a while, music became the only thing I thought about. My friends were watching Disney shows; I was watching Bob Marley and the wailers live at the rainbow in London England. Music became less of a hobby and more a part of my identity. It became a driving force for me to be the best person I could be. Because listening to, playing, and creating music was and continues to be such a large part of my life, I believe that music is more than sound. It’s a message, a lifestyle, and a place where I can escape to. The idea that an assortment of vibrations can evoke feelings and emotion is truly something magical. A melody can become something that perfectly expresses how I feel, without the need for words. As a guitar string vibrates, it moves airwaves that bounce off my ear drum and are then interpreted by my brain. These vibrations become a sort of communication between the instrument and whoever is listening. Things can sound solemn, energetic, or everything in between. My experiences...

...Barcelona in 1903 following the suicide of a close friend, “The Old Guitarist” is is a relatively still painting, showing a street musician in a moment of extreme suffering. On the outskirts of a consumeristic society as a non-producer, poverty and depression are a reality many artists have faced in the modern world. Picasso adeptly captures the tragic figure of the starving artist clutching his instrument, bowed by the pressures of life. The man is dressed in rags and looks as though he is blind, and yet the guitar is still the center of his being. With his deft use of color, space, shape and line, Picasso is able to elicit a surge of emotion from the viewer and make a statement about the nature of pain, suffering, and poverty in the life of an artist. Color is one obvious element Picasso uses to influence the viewer’s emotions. “The Old Guitarist” was painted during his “blue period” and has a monochromatic color scheme. The entire painting, except for the guitar, is in different shades of blue and gray. This does two things. First, the monochromatic color scheme flattens out the forms and makes them look more two-dimensional and less lifelike. The man in the painting looks close to death, almost frozen. The exception to this, the place that shows the most contrast and dimension, is the area of the neck, which is also closest to the bright spot of the head. Your eye is drawn to this light area and then travels down the neck. There the muscles are straining against a burden...
