...Glock and S&W have long been competitors in the pistol market. Both companies have fought ademently to outsell the other. This fued even escalted to a patent lawsuit, which ruled in favor of Glock. Both the S&W and the Glock are plastic framed pistols, both use the same configuration, and for this comparisson, both are chambered in 40S&W. The Glock 22 was first released in 1990 while the S&W MP40 was first released in 2005. While the Glock has a lead in market age in this particular comparrison, S&W is a long trusted Amercan company that originated long before Glock ever came to be. For those who like to customize thier pistols, aftermarket availability is an importent concern. In the current aftermarket, availability for Glock parts and accessories greatly exceeds that of S&W, and while this is most likely due to the age of the Glock 22 it is certainly an attribute to be aware of....

...“So why is the idea of a gun good when it's used to protect our president, our country, or our police, but bad when it's used to protect our children in their schools?” (LaPierre.) The context for this is that LaPierre explained that it is the duty of adults to protect children. The flaunting of the idea that school campuses are fire-armless makes them an easy target for psychopaths that would dare shoot up or harm a student body at a school. This idea that gun-free campuses make schools less likely to be shot up is one that he debates as well. The numbers back up the claim that flaunting the idea of the zones being firearms makes them inherently more dangerous, as proven in ammo.com’s database: “There have been 2,646 school shooting incidents in the U.S. since 1966. Of those, 2,205 (94%) occurred after the 1990 School Zone Safety Act (amended in 1995).” The statistics show that the passing of the act led to far more shootings than it actually prevented. He makes the point that if society uses guns to protect some of the most important members, why is it not used to protect the lives of children who will make up the future of the world? This testimony is important as the vice president of a company whose intention is to sell firearms knows who is using and purchasing these weapons. He imply the idea that firearms are used to protect the most important...

...The gunnery section of the three basic skills pertains to any activities involving the placement of artillery fire on a given target. American field artillery mastered their ability to gun and offered its most momentous contribution through means of mass fires. WWI had redirected the U.S. Army to give more training in massing fire in their artillery sector. As the only nation, willing to undergo changes to make this improvement it reflected during the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge. The Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Ok, were successful in mastering this capability due to restructuring their division. The first overhaul was to have a centralized battalion headquarters. This was meant to relinquish fire control from the battery commanders and into the hands of the battalion commander. Going against tradition was opposed until mid-1930s, but eventually happened. The other major change would be the creation of a Fire Direction...

...impact of pressure groups in the United States, and membership size can be seen to be a crucial one of them In Gun control, the NRA, a wealthy group of 4 million people, is clearly the dominant force in comparison to the much smaller, weaker, gun control groups like Handgun Control Inc. This is one main reason why the second amendment is still so rigidly enforced, because one of the most powerful pressure groups in the USA continues to campaign for this approach. Similarly, the influence of industry against the influence of environmental campaign groups is clearly unequal and unfair. Again this shows that it is the elite of USA who hold power - the influential pressure groups, the legislature, the bureaucrats, and so on. Small scale pressure groups with little funding find it extremely difficult to be listened to by those in power. For example in 2013 the top U.S. gun lobby rejected Obama administration proposals to reduce gun violence saying it expected to have enough support in Congress to fend off bans on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines and stricter background checks on gun buyers. President Barack Obama has pushed reducing gun violence to the top of his domestic agenda following the shooting of 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut school with a legally purchased high-powered rifle. The National Rifle Association and other pro-gun groups met with Biden, and the...

...January 9, 2004 OP-ED COLUMNIST Enron and the System By PAUL KRUGMAN wo years after Enron, then one of America's most admired companies, was revealed as a fraud, prosecutors finally seem to be getting somewhere. Andrew Fastow, the company's former chief financial officer, and his wife, Lea, are reported to be engaged in plea-bargaining. Mr. Fastow's testimony will probably lead to charges against other former Enron executives. But it would be a big mistake to conclude that the system is working. It isn't. For one thing, the progress in the Enron case is something of a fluke — sort of like convicting Al Capone for income tax evasion. The charges against Mrs. Fastow don't focus on dubious corporate deals; they focus on her failure to report the personal kickbacks she received from participants in those deals. And it's still unclear whether the company's top executives will ever face charges. More important, in political terms the statute of limitations may already have run out. The political figures with the most direct ties to the Enron scandal, former Secretary of the Army Thomas White and former Senator Phil Gramm, are no longer in office. War and a rising market have, at least for the time being, diverted attention from the role of other political figures whose deference to corporate demands aided and abetted Enron and other corporate malefactors. And that's unfortunate. The wave of scandal was made possible, if not caused, by a political climate in...

...Abstract In recent year’s biometrics have started to make a major positive impact in our nation’s police departments. Biometrics is a technology that can make police departments safer, more effective and more efficient by saving time and money. Biometrics uses a person’s biological markers such as fingerprints, palm prints, facial features, and iris information for various uses. This paper will discuss how biometrics is applied to police technology such as smart guns, iris scanners, fingerprint scanners, and facial recognition systems. This document hopes to provide police departments with enough information to make an informed decision on bringing biometric technology into their units. This document will also touch on amendment rights pertaining to biometric technology in order to make departments aware of how this technology pertains to a citizen’s civil rights. Biometrics is rapidly advancing in our society and police departments need to be aware of how beneficial this technology really is. Biometrics: How Are Police Departments Utilizing This Technology? Biometrics is defined as using inherent human characteristics as a form of identification and access control. There are more than six billion people on our planet and each one can be identified as different by their biometric characteristics (Baker, 2011). With that many people out there police officers now more than ever need a quick and accurate way to identify suspects when working the field. The way they...

...Brazil’s Economy In 2001, Brazil was viewed as one of the up and coming, fastest growing economies in the world. In fact, Jim O’Neill wrote a paper titled, “Building Better Global Economic BRICs”, which is about the emerging economies in the world. The acronym BRIC represents: Brazil, Russia, India, and China (Smith). These global leaders have lived up to expectations and have grown at a much faster rate than the rest of the world. They have been able to lift millions of people out of poverty, including 40 million in Brazil alone. Will Brazil continue to be part of the BRIC in years to come? A 2010 Goldman Sachs report predicted by the year 2030 the BRIC countries would account for an astounding 41% of the world’s market share (Smith). But we now see that those predicted numbers are very far from certain. Many believe if Brazil does not improve some of its problems plaguing its society, the BRIC could easily become the RIC group. Without the necessary changes being made, Brazil’s annual compounding rate of 4.4% could be washed away. Recently the GDP numbers show their industrial output lingering around recession numbers. It is also predicted that the Brazilian economy will grow less than the U.S. economy this year (Rapoza). Brazil was originally able to secure its spot in the fastest growing nations in the mid to late nineties by bold privatization and economic liberalization policies by then president Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Cardoso’s successor, “Lula” da...

...Maintenance Cleaning a muzzleloader, whether a Modern or Traditional style, is necessary in order to preserve the life of the barrel and breech areas, and also in maintaining the accuracy of your shot. The following will discuss how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble three different types of muzzleloader. There are key differences in the areas of disassembling and reassembling of the rifles, but cleaning both modern muzzleloaders and traditional muzzleloaders is similar. Gathering Cleaning Materials Before beginning the cleaning process for either Modern muzzleloaders or Traditional muzzleloaders, gather the supplies needed. Materials used for cleaning and preserving a muzzleloader include: Soap and warm water, cleaning solvent, gun oil and rag, two inch cotton-cloth patches, screw driver, nipple wrench, and a ramrod from the muzzleloader (or a range rod if wanted). Other supplies for the cleaning process are: A cleaning jag, an empty milk jug, a small container to fill with cleaning solvent for soaking the nipple and breech (if applicable), an old toothbrush and some twist-ties (or special tools able to be purchased), and finally some light grease. Please note, other materials may be necessary for a Modern Muzzleloader, such as a breech plug tool or Allen wrenches, so make sure to gather these as well if cleaning a Modern version of the Muzzleloader. This is includes everything one should need. Other materials are available depending on personal preference. ...

...plans of investing in Facebook after all the hype and speculation that’s is being made about the IPO offering. Facebook has been said to have the potential, through this IPO offering and their publicizing of their company to make many individuals rich. Because of this public knowledge, there are many insiders that are trying to take advantage of this situation by already trading stocks as if it were already public. In comparison to many other companies that, when they go public on average have between 50 and 100 investors, Facebook already has more than 1000 shareholders apart of their company. The company is supposed to be in a quiet period and not talk to investors, or try to create more hype or to overprice their stock because of the federal rules of the SEC Policy of 1933. They are urged not to jump the gun. As an example, when Google spoke to and interviewed Playboy, they had to include that interview as apart of their final filing. The concern however, is whether or not the insiders of Facebook may be limiting the IPO by pushing their value. The CEO and founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, had initially held firm to a valuation of $100 billion, but since the company is already being traded privately, the stock has risen to $44 and therefore made the company jump by $3 billion in value. Facebook may face smaller gains because they have been traded more and owned by larger investors. We do not know how these actions will affect Facebook’s IPO shares, but it will definitely...

...Michael D Boffeli American InterContinental University Professor Cynthia Armes ACCT205-1301B-02 Principles of Accounting Unit 1 IP Abstract The paper is about a hypothetical scenario requiring the writer to give and informative introductory class on the subject of accounting. The primary objectives of accounting are identified and described in basic terms. Basic accounting terminology is identified and defined using the New York State Society of CPA’s Accounting Terminology Guide. A brief personal example is given regarding personal ethics and how they have applied to accounting. Lastly, the roll of technology and its effects on small business are discussed. When learning anything it is sometimes best to start with the simplest of terms. To understand accounting it is best to think of it as the “Language of Business.” (Riese, 2013) Thinking of accounting this way makes the phrase the cornerstone to which all the other stones of accounting can be laid in order to build understanding. The primary function of accounting is to document by quantity, measure, classify, summarize, and communicate in a very accurate manner using monetary terms the financial transactions of businesses. (Pilchar , n.d.) The sound practice of this language tells investors whether or not to invest in the business. Understanding the language of accounting is important to making good financial decisions. It has been said that the English language one of the most difficult to learn...

...The ground breaking technological advancements of today is allowing the average consumer to watch streaming videos; the technologies have come to the front from companies such as Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent. These technologies will continue to amaze and amuse us like rides at an amusement park. Compare and Contrast 3G Wireless Networks to 4G Networks The comparisons and contrasts are laid out on blueprint papers and networks architectural layers in terms of services and applications, data throughput, and the end users perceptions. The differences in network architectural layout has its contrasts between the 3G and 4G networks, 3G networks are compiled of 1xrtt networks, CDMA 2000, along with the edge network. This observation comparison of the 4G network contrasts itself above the 3G network by increased data speeds, based on the network architectural cable wiring of the 3G network, and the fiber optic glass like tubes of a 4G network carrying thousands more data packets a second. The 4G networks, LTE, and LTE-advanced, WiMax2, advance themselves beyond the 3G networks, it’s like comparing and contrasting dial up speeds to high internet speeds at this point. The services and applications entertainment would start with3G attractions, mobile applications, streaming video and data applications became main-stream.
