It can include regulations on what kinds of firearms and be bought and sold, who posses or sell them, and where and how they can be carried. “ The debate has a long history in the U.S. It dates back to the 18th century, when the Founders were crafting the Bill of Right - the first 10 amendments to the constitution. The second amendment gave the Americans the right to “ bear arms”. But in many years people had disagreements over how to interpret it. There are three things that are issues with the guns; background checks on buyers, laws regulating who can carry weapons in public, the kinds of guns and gun accessories available for purchase. Since 1993, licensed gun dealers have been required to conduct background checks on potential buyers through an FBI database. This prevent the sale of the guns to someone who is prohibited from owning a gun. What are some of the arguments in favor of gun control? “ people who favor gun control say that the more people who carry weapons, the more likely it is that someone will use to kill. They cite figures that equate high rates of gun ownership with more gun violence.” It's true because people can go crazy if they own a gun and they can go kill someone or they can kill themselves with it. ...having stronger gun control laws is unconstitutional and violates their 2nd Amendment rights. This is untrue, the 2nd Amendment refers to the state’s militia having the right to bear arms, not the right of any individual. In one year, 2,624 children die from acts of gun violence. 1,591 children are murdered, 853 children commit suicide, and 123 are killed unintentionally (Brady Campaign). But all of these tragedies could have been prevented. The 2nd Amendment states that, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Constitution Center). But in recent years, this amendment has yet to be accurately interpreted. Many believe the 2nd Amendment is speaking only of the right to bear arms and the levels of gun control. Advocates of gun control...

...There’s the common argument that we all need to come together and understand the mind of a killer. It is believed that if we can somehow understand the mind of a mass killer then we will be able to prevent their crimes from occurring. However, we need to be reminded that no matter what our action(s) may be, there will also be a deranged man/woman living amongst us that will not seek our help. We cannot change a killers background or past – We cannot change whatever the reason may be on why they have killed or are looking to kill more, but we can do our very best to disarm them. Of course, there are some anti-gun control groups that argue about laws forbidding the possession of arms- discussing that it will only disarm only those who are law-abiding...

...argument that stood out to me was the issue of gun control. Gun control has been a debate for many years, but in light of the heartbreaking event that took place in Parkland, Florida, killing seventeen people, it is ever so strong. The proponents of gun control argue there should be a change to the current gun control laws (ProCon.org, 2017). They contend if America had more gun control law, we could reduce gun deaths nationwide, not to mention the protection these laws would bring to the victims of domestic violence and stalking situations. Another stance is the necessity for banning high-capacity magazines because data illustrates “50% of mass shootings during 1982 and 2012 involved this type of weapon, and when high-capacity magazines are used, death rates rise 63% and injury rates rise 156%. That is definitely some alarming statistics, especially when the media continues to discuss the school shootings and casualties. Furthermore, proponents argue that the guns being used are those same legally owned guns that the current gun control laws allow individuals to have in their...

...goes down and there is a guy standing there pointing a gun at you. The government has said no guns, so you have no way to defend yourself. People say that getting rid of all the guns will stop so many murders, but the people who are going to abuse the usage of guns will figure out how to get them. The person behind the gun, the one pulling the trigger, that is the killer. The gun does not fire itself. More gun control equals more murders. People who abuse the usage of guns will not listen to the gun laws. Matthew Patrick said “ In Russia where handguns are banned, the murder rate is 30.6 per 100,000, while in the US the rate is a mere 7.8.” If I had to make a wild guess, there is probably a higher murder rate there because the lawbreakers kept the guns and the law followers gave the guns up. Therefore, the law followers couldn’t defend themselves. “The percentage of murders committed with handguns in Chicago varied between roughly 40 percent and 55 percent each year during the pre-ban period of 1965-1981. Many people believe we should have more strict gun control laws while others say that we should make gun control laws less strict. As American citizens, we have the right to own guns and that right should never be taken away from us. We should make it less difficult for an individual to go out and buy guns so people can protect themselves from criminals. People will always find ways to obtain guns, that’s what criminals do. According to the washington post “82% of perpetrators in gun violence got their guns illegally while the other 18% got their guns legally.” More strict gun laws will only make people more vulnerable.
