Self-Guided Career Exploration
Personality Assessment Instructions

The process of selecting an academic major and deciding upon a future occupation is ongoing and multi-faceted. Therefore, when you begin to engage in independent exploration and reflection prior to meeting with career counselors or other professional staff, you are able to have more productive sessions that help you to effectively identify possible academic majors, and more confidently explore your career options.

The FYE Career Exploration website is now available to facilitate such self-guided exploration!

A link for the site is available from the FYE {First Year Experience} web page in MyHCC. On the HCC homepage, click on <STUDENT SERVICES>.

1. Select <SUPPORT AT HCC>.

2. Select <FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE>.

3. Under the heading “FYE CAREER RESOURCES”, click on <CAREER EXPLORATION>.

4. On the FYE Career Exploration website go to the “Career Exploration Registration” tab and complete the required information.

5. Go the “Career Exploration Activities” Tab.

6. Be sure to read the Topic Overview to begin your exploration and reflection. Feel free to explore other activities on the FYE Career Exploration site.

7. Click on the GREEN link for the “Personality Assessment” and click on “Register Here” {this second registration is required by the assessment vendor}.

8. Complete the “Do What You Are” [DWYA] assessment. Read your results and make note of information that is of interest to you. Think about how the results can help you in selecting a career. Also consider the amount of education that is required for the career. Discuss your results with classmates, family, friends who know you well, or with a career counselor.
