The Franks were later joined by the Van Daan Family, which included Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan and their son Peter. Then, Mr. Jan Dussel was the last person to live in the secret annex. These eight people had to live together for more than two years. They had become one big family. Born a German national, Frank lost her citizenship in 1941 when Nazi Germany passed the anti-Semitic Nuremberg Laws. She gained international fame posthumously after her diary was published. It documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. The Frank family moved from Germany to Amsterdam in 1933, the year the Nazis gained control over Germany. Even though she has a pretty good social life, she feels misunderstood by everyone around her. Within a month of Anne starting to write her journal, her entire life changes.
