By: Gretchen Reynolds http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/09/18/how-physical-fitness-may-promote-school-success/?_r=1 Specific Issue: Studies show that children who are more fit get information easier than those who are not.
Global Issue: How does physical fitness promote success of schools? According to a new study, children who are physically fit absorb and retain new information more effectively than children who are out of shape. This new study has raised timely questions about the wisdom of slashing physical education programs at school. Parents and scientists who focus their studies on the physical aspect of the body, have known that being physically active and fit helps young people to settle and pay more attention in school than home. This is actually true, as before I used to be incredibly out of shape and everything was a drag for me, but now I am in much better shape and feel better than ever. So, it makes sense to me that this article states that being fit helps school success because I see it like this: You are fit, you learn easier, you learn easier, you do better in school, thus helping your school’s overall academic scores basically skyrocketing the success of schools. No doubt, in my opinion it is incredibly difficult staying in good shape, as it requires excellent conditioning of the body, and great nutritional ways, but in doing so, it benefits one so much. It makes one feel better about themselves, and in doing so, gives more confidence to the person. Like I said, I have never felt as confident as I do now, and not to my surprise, my grades have increased since I was chubbier and everything in life for me has been steering in a positive direction thank God. Company History

...Corporate Histories History of Under Armour Under Armour is currently an athletic apparel, footwear, and accessory brand with the mission “to make all athletes better through passion, science, and the relentless pursuit of innovation” (Under Armour website). The brand was founded in 1996 by University of Maryland football player Kevin Plank in the basement of his grandmother’s house in Baltimore, Maryland. Based on his own athletic experience, Plank was inspired to create a sweat-wicking undershirt that did not get moisture-laden with sweat during games and practice. The company gained initial success with grassroots marketing among the athletic community. Under Armour did not reach mainstream consumers until the company’s products appeared in the 1999 film Any Given Sunday. It has continued to appear in other movies and television shows, and it has gained many athletic stars as spokespeople of the brand. Under Armour launched its first television advertisement, featuring football player Eric Ogbogu, in 2003. These marketing efforts have done well to expand consumer recognition of the brand’s initial product. Sweat-wicking shirts are now commonly known as “Under Armour” similar to the way tissues are now often just called “Kleenex.” With its evolving brand image, Under Armour has been able to expand beyond the athletic performance apparel market, which it dominated at 75% of market share in 2005. Following its initial public offering in 2005, which raised over $100 million...

Play Gyms and the Benefits for a Community

...Play Gyms: and the benefits for a community Lorel Grad Langara College Benefits of Parent and Tot play gyms in Mount pleasant Community I chose to explore the benefits of “Parent and Tot” play gyms in my community. Acting as a social network for parents and children, play gyms offer a positive social environment to play, learn, and converse with peers. Play gyms are a fun space for children to play and be physically active. Lastly with the ever increasing housing costs, children have limited space to play as larger places become more expensive. Therefore, play gyms have an overall positive affect on toddlers and adults alike promoting physical, emotional, and social well-being while keeping costs to a minimum. Healthy child development is an essential determinant of health because of the longterm effects on the rest of a child's life. Having a healthy upbringing can influence choices later on in life to prevent obesity, increase activity, and create a foundation for social skills. Parent-Tot programs deal with many of the determinants of health that are outside the scope of the health care system. A child's social support networks are just as important as maintaining their physical exercise. These play gyms are great for learning social skills, for instance children learn how to take turns, and exercise patients. Play gyms also allow other adults to interact with each other...

Exercising also gently improves your health, improve your quality of life, and reducing the feelings of depression and anxiety. Although impossible to have a clear awareness and good impact in your academic life without being healthy. This research was important to us because we are students at Georgetown university, and health and exercise has influence in our academic performance. In addition, The questions covered topics such as exercising, having breakfast before class, taking vitamins, drinking coffee, and methods used to balance their daily diet in the exam periods. The open-ended question was designed to bring out responses in greater detail about their diet balance in the exam periods. Our team had generated a number of hypotheses before conducting the interviews and the surveys. We predicted different answers from both genders, and also expected certain answers from people who are under and above 21. We thought that asking people at the gym would give us different perspectives than those who were not at the gym. Regarding time, we did not expect any highlighted differences in the responses that we accumulated in the morning and those which were accumulated in...
