...Critical Reflection is a way to review the assumptions you had before class and how this class has changed your assumptions. Another way to think of this is to look at what you are learning in three ways: Heart- Was there something that transformed the way that you feel? Hand-Is there something that you will do differently? How will you apply what you learn? Head-What did you learn tonight that you did not know before? What confirmed or challenged any beliefs or assumptions you had? There were definitely some things that transformed the way that I feel with the information I was able to gather. I gradually realized that learning about critical reflections is a way for all of us to examine assumptions about certain subjects that we are interested in. It provides a pathway so we can use the most logical reasoning that we gather out of the information while we are questioning our beliefs (Paul &Elders 2008, p.33). As we progress further along the learning process we are going to have to adapt to the curiosities and anxieties that comes with seeking and solving problems. This process will cause you to naturally evaluate the statements and arguments that you may run into as you are examining these beliefs, assumptions and opinions. I think you...

He doesn’t like to say he diets, because it is a way of living. My mother has also been a smoker for as long as I can remember. ...composition with something like the first paragraph. I would talk about PR, its meaning, and then write down what qualities a PR professional must possess. I was originally planning to do just that. When I got home from school last Friday, I immediately sat in front of my desktop computer, meaning to start with this reflection paper. It was 8:08 P.M then. 10…20…50 minutes had passed and I still didn’t have a clue on what to write. I told myself, “It’s okay, this paper isn’t due until Thursday next week anyway. I don’t need to finish it now. I’m off the hook.” Saturday came, and the same thing happened. I just stared on my PC’s screen for 3 hours! Heck, there wasn’t even a single letter on that blank document! It was clean and white! But then again, it’s okay. I told myself that there’s still tomorrow, and the day after that, and then the next, next day after that. Surely by then, I would have come up with something brilliant for this piece. I was totally wrong. I started to panic when Sunday came and I still didn’t know what to do with this paper. “What is wrong with me?! Why couldn’t I write something as simple as this? It’s just a mere reflection paper, for Pete’s sake! IT’S JUST PR!” And then it hit me. Who am I to say that “It’s JUST PR”? Who gave me the right to say something like that when I don’t even know what Public Relations truly mean? I later figured out that it was the problem all along. I absolutely didn’t know a thing about PR. How can I write...

...my body in shape. Eating healthy and working out are extremely important to me because it gives me drive, keeps me motivated, and brings me happiness. Depending on your eating habits and your level of exercise you can either mentally benefit or hinder. Mentally, healthy eating and exercise provides us with more motivation and drive. Taking care of our bodies can provide us with a higher self-confidence because we enjoy the way we look and are proud of what one accomplished. When I exercise and watch what I put in my mouth I feel more energized, the increased levels of serotonin makes me feel better about myself. Taking care of yourself provides an air of confidence, which makes you more likely to succeed in the workforce and in relationships. On the other hand poorly taking care of your body can put you in a bad mood because of reflections on our body images and the sluggish gross feeling from not eating well or exercising. From personal experience, when I don’t exercise or eat healthy I feel sluggish and self-conscious about my figure. Eating healthy and exercising cannot only benefit you mentally but you benefit physically as well. People who eat healthy and exercise have less health problems and are more active people. When going to the hospital, you don’t normally see athletes having heart problems, lung problems or any problem that can be controlled by diet and exercise. I believe that the small groups of people who go out and exercise everyday whether it’s riding a...

...Since he is only twenty-four years old, it allows people like Jan Burres to see a reflection of a family member in McCandless. Often times when people are going through hard times, they find it easier to talk with people their age or someone younger because it gives off the feeling that they can understand the situation better than other people. These situations are relatively similar to how Jan Burres feels about McCandless because she sees her son’s reflection in him and hopes that he can fulfill the emptiness feeling in her heart. A third quality that helps people connect with McCandless is how he never fails to keep in touch with those he cares about (Krakauer 53). This habit of McCandless makes it easier for people to remember him because not everyone makes sure to keep in touch with people they barely know. In our society nowadays, I have seen many people take others for granted. For example, teenagers seek out for help from their friends when they need them, but when it comes time to return that favor, they seem to distance themselves away from that...

...Biblical Integration: Servant Leadership Group 3 BUSI 502 – Servant Leadership Liberty University 2014 Abstract Biblical Integration: Servant Leadership Servant leadership teaches that there must be a balance between serving and leading; a focus on putting the needs of others first (Spears, 1996). The philosophy enriches the lives of not only individuals, but builds better organizations by making it a priority to serve others. The greater contributions of quality service exemplify the determination to create an exceptional institution (Greenleaf, 2009). Providing service to communities is one of the primary focuses of a servant leader, which will develop and enhance more self-growth in their communities. Servant leadership is an act of service, and the embrace of feedback as a source of useful information on how to better serve people (Blanchard & Hodges, 2003). Greenleaf’s revolutionary view on the new topic of servant leadership offered a shift from the traditional role of leadership (Duby, 2009). Part 1: Greenleaf’s Theories Robert K. Greenleaf popularized the term servant leadership, in his 1970 essay, The Servant Leader (Spears, 1996). According to Duby (2009), Greenleaf envisioned servant leaders as being driven and motivated to serve first with the end result being an empowered, serving society. Greenleaf introduced the term ‘servant leadership’ and proposed that great leaders are first servants to others (Spears, 1996; Dierendonck, 2011). Greenleaf...

...Becoming a Critical Thinker By Dr. Lew A. Weider “A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.” Proverbs 14:15 What Was He Thinking?! How many times have we said these words out loud as we watch reality home videos on television? You know the kind—the people who will do anything to get on TV! Like the guy that took his sled up onto the roof after a heavy snowfall. His bravado was showing all over as he stood on the roof, waving his sled for all to see. The stunt he intended to perform was to go sledding off of his roof and happily land on the deck below. No doubt he thought that all of that snow would help him make the perfect soft landing. Boy was he wrong! It was a brutal scene. He made a crash landing onto the deck. There was no more bravado. His body was crumpled in a heap in the midst of the splintered pieces of his sled. What was he thinking? His passion to attempt the impossible overshadowed his ability to think at all. We often have to set aside our passion to think clearly, to think critically, in order to make wise decisions. Critical Thinking It is a common practice we do every day, but we may never even be aware of it. For example, in the English language, how do you know whether the word “r-e-a-d” should be understood as a directive to “read a book,” or if it is to be understood as a past-tense word describing a moment that someone “had already read that book last week?” Critical thinking. Another example is with...

...piece is “The Stranger”. Meursault, the narrator of The Stranger, is an existential anti-hero. Locked into the routine of daily existence, his life is a shapeless void without ideas, preferences, goals, or emotions. Like a robot, Meursault responds to everything automatically, neither feeling nor caring. When he is offered a job transfer to Paris, Meursault says he does not care where he works; yet he does not go because moving would be too much trouble. His mother’s death is met with similar lack of response: he feels no despair or grief. Occasionally, Meursault lacks motivation to do anything, so he spends the day sitting at his bedroom window, smoking cigarettes more out of habit than desire. Meursault utilizes all of the six existential themes: Freedom, Contingency, Individuality, Existence, Reflection, and Nihilism. The first existential theme is freedom. Freedom means that whatever happened prior to now does not influence what your next choice in life will be, we are free to make any choice we want. Meursault displays Freedom by just doing as he wishes to do. Meursault’s mother dies so he attends the funeral. While at his mother's funeral, Meursault decides to smoke cigarettes, drink a cup of coffee, and also he fails to cry. This just shows how Meursault is displaying his free will, he does not let the influence of his mother dying effect what he...

...Abraham Lincoln said, “Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree.“ Our character is much more than just our reputation, what we try to display for others to see. It is who we are even when no one is watching. Having a Good Character means doing the right thing just because it is right to do what is right. (Learn More About Abraham Lincoln) The Dictionary Definitions of “Character” One dictionary defines character as “the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.” Another says it is “the complex of mental and ethical traits marking a person.” In still another dictionary, character is said to be “the stable and distinctive qualities built into an individual’s life which determine his or her response regardless of circumstances.” How Character Determines Success In Life Our Character Is What Determines How We Respond to the Situations and Circumstances of Life The dictionary definitions said character is a “complex of mental and ethical traits“, that those traits, or qualities, are “distinctive to an individual” and that they are “built into an individual’s life.” It is those character qualities, those character traits, that determine a person’s response in any given situation. For example, a person in with a strong character quality of truthfulness is much more likely to accurately report the facts in a given situation than a person who tends to be characterized by deceptiveness. Someone who has the character trait of alertness will be more likely to...

Under chaos and complexity theory, organizational structures served to create boundaries between everything and prescribed who did what. The organization treated people like machines, assigning them specific roles, duties, and responsibilities while ignoring their other abilities, emotions, or beliefs. The interview summary will display the company as chaotic but a self-organization entity. Beneath all structures and behaviors resides the real creator – dynamic processes. Confusion is part of a much deeper process of organization. It is in...

...Franklin project: Paragraphs Paragraph 1: Franklin Reflection Benjamin Franklin’s improvement plan for himself was very substantial for one to commit to. Having thirteen personality traits to flip around at one time is too much for a human to conquer. He must have been a serious go getter. He made a chart and even kept a journal to record his progress. Personally I feel like doing this would be almost impossible. He writes “I wanted to make all these virtues into personal habits, so I tried to master them one at a time”. It’s great to work hard for something, but it’s hard enough changing one thing but changing thirteen things would be non- accomplishable. I remember I tried to change just a few things about me. Just doing that was hard, and it took awhile and sometimes I still mess up. But having ten more things would be too much. However, he definitely knew it would be a challenge according to his quote, “ Like a man with a large garden to weed, I knew I could not get rid of all my faults at once”. At least he is somewhat realistic. Still I believe if he took to the list with tremendous work ethic, he would still most likely not perfect himself. Perfection takes a lifetime. Paragraph 2: My Plan My improvement plan consists of simply not cursing, and replacing those words with more sensible words. Cursing is unprofessional and makes me sound uneducated. I knew it needed to stop, so like Benjamin Franklin I set myself up with a self improvement...

It seems to be the law of our general nature, in spite of individual exceptions.” “The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive.” “Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny” “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.” “I hope our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us that the less we use our power the greater it will be.” “When angry, count ten before you speak; if very angry...
