...DESIGN CONCEPT “Geometry: A rationale to create a form” Architecture begins with Geometry. All of nature evolves out of simple geometric patterns incorporated within the molecular "seed" structure. Each of these basic patterns contains information that enables animals, plants, minerals (and humans) to develop into complex and beautiful forms, each with an intrinsic awareness of its location in space and time. The exact measurements and alignments are all based on geometric patterns. Basic Geometry + Architecture The geometry of the built environment can have a tremendous impact on what human interactions are likely to take place. High density low rise housing with modest garden space and cozy clustered geometries can promote a sense of pride, ownership and belonging. All Form and shape imply space; indeed they cannot exist without space, primarily the concept of geometric form. Geometry can provide a more complete appreciation of the world. Geometry can be found in the structure of the solar system, in geological formations, in rocks and crystals, in plants and flowers, even in animals. It is also a major part of our synthetic universe: Art, architecture, cars, machines, and virtually everything that humans create have elements of geometric form. Geometry shapes all buildings, no matter how simple. Believers say that when we recognize geometric principles and build upon them, we create dwellings that comfort and inspire. The design of this Proposed Low-Rise (WALK-UP)...

...Chapter IV Results and Discussion This chapter covers my personal thoughts on Japanese Anime. UGHHH LIFE, it’s so normal, same thing every single day, school, eat, sleep, homework, and lectures. NYEHHH, WHY CAN”T LIFE BE AN ANIME OR SOMETHING. IT WOULD BE A WHOLE LOT EASIER, With schools that could train you to slay people and monsters, people with special powers, a world where you can travel into different dimensions, or time travel. A place where angels can fall into, where shinagami can visit and somehow ‘lose’ their death notes, somewhere where magic and fairies and SAO and insane geniuses exists. I want a world that is capable of almost destroying itself, with heroes save it and all that. I just want an exciting world to live in. Or maybe a way to go into the world of anime or meet my favourite anime characters, or maybe I just need a computer with high internet connection, and I could also threaten to destroy the whole world. Then all the heroes from TV shows and anime could reveal themselves, and show the world that they exist, then they could all team up and try to save humanity, once I just get to see their faces, I would surrender, and live the rest of my insane life in prison, having the knowledge that they exist, and be happy and maybe, just maybe. Or I just want a computer. Back to the main idea for this chapter.. Okay, there’s more to Anime than Harem, 2D Animation, and Excitement, but those were the first three things that came to mind as I typed...

...The Detection of Gravitational Waves, How Close Are We? Since the realization that the general theory of relativity predicts gravitational waves, there have been attempts to actually detect these waves. Indirect observations have been made that support their existence but no direct measurement. This paper gives a brief explanation of gravitational waves and discusses the current condition of the experimental search for gravitational waves. It deals with the newest techniques that will enable their detection. The focus of the paper is on three experimental groups: LIGO, VIRGO, and LISA. From our research of these groups we believe that the detection of gravitational waves will occur within the next decade. Gravitational waves: Understanding and Detection Gravitational waves carry information about catastrophic events in the universe. We give a brief description of gravitational waves with an overview of the current projects underway to detect them. We begin by discussing the theoretical prediction of gravitational waves from Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. We listseveral possible sources of these waves and describe how they produce gravitational waves. We also discussthe characteristic signals each source sendsto Earth. We outline advantages and challenges for several detection methods now being...

...Jasmin Kate Vallez History of the Department of Agriculture: 'DA Then and Now' Eleven days after the proclamation of the Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, President Emilio Aguinaldo formed his government with the Department of Agriculture and Manufacturing as one of the first agencies. The Department was headed by three directors, Jose Alejandrino (1898-1899), Graciano Gonzaga and Leon Ma. Guerrero, both during the latter part of 1899. In 1901 during the American regime, the Department was renamed Insular Bureau of Agriculture under the Department of Interior and was headed by Americans, Frank Lamson-Scribner (1902), WC Welborn (1904), and Dr. George Nesom (1907). In 1910, the Bureau, under the supervision of the Department of Public Instruction, was headed by Frederick Taylor (1911-1914) and Harry Edwards (1914-1916). After Edwards, the helm of the bureau was again given to a Filipino, Adriano Hernandez who himself was a practicing farmer. In 1917, the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) took over the functions of the bureau and was led by Secretaries Galicano Apacible (1917-1921), Rafael Corpuz (1921-1923), and Silvestre Apostol (1923-1928). During the administration of Secretary Rafael Alunan, Sr. (1928-1932), the DANR became the Department of Agriculture and Commerce. The Bureau of Agriculture was split into two bureaus, the Plant Industry and the Animal Industry. The following year, the Fish...

...LEGEND * A traditional story or group of stories told about a particular person or place. Formerly the term legend meant a tale about a saint. Legends resemble folktales in content; they may include supernatural beings, elements of mythology, or explanations of natural phenomena, but they are associated with a particular locality or person and are told as a matter of history. * Some legends are the unique property of the place or person that they depict, such as the story of young George Washington, the future first president of the United States, who confesses to chopping down the cherry tree. EPIC * A long narrative poem recounting heroic deeds, although the term has also been loosely used to describe novels, such as Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, and motion pictures, such as Sergey Eisenstein’sIvan the Terrible. In literary usage, the term encompasses both oral and written compositions. * The prime examples of the oral epic are Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. Outstanding examples of the written epic include Virgil’s Aeneid and Lucan’s Pharsalia in Latin, Chanson de Roland in medieval French,Ludovico Ariosto’s Orlando furioso and Torquato Tasso’s Gerusalemme liberata in Italian, Cantar de mio Cid in Spanish, and John Milton’s Paradise Lost and Edmund Spenser’s Faerie Queene in English. PROVERB * A succinct and pithy saying in general use, expressing commonly held ideas and beliefs. Proverbs are part of every spoken language and are related to such...

...Week 10: Post lab Questions – Environmental Solutions I (25 points) Scientists use an instrument called a spectrometer to quantitatively determine the amount of light absorbed by a solution. The primary inner parts of a typical spectrometer are described below. The spectrometer has a light source that emits white light containing a vast mixture of different wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation. The wavelength of interest is then selected using a monochromator (“mono” meaning one and “chromate” meaning color) and an additional exit slit. The separation of white light into different colors (wavelengths) is known as diffraction. The selected light then reaches the sample and depending on how the light interacts with the chemical compound of interest, some of the light is absorbed and some passes straight through. By comparing the amount of light entering the sample (P0) with the amount of light reaching the detector (P), the spectrometer is able to tell how much light is absorbed by the sample. Define all of the bold words in the previous paragraph. (4 points) Spectrometer: an optical instrument that can detect spectral lines. It measures it’s wavelength and intensity. Quantitatively: something that is part of the metric system, can be given a numerical value. Electromagnetic radiation: radiation that includes radio waves, visible light, x-rays and gamma rays, where the magnetic and electric fields vary at the same time. Monochromator:...
