On the morning of October 12th, as many students were settling in for their third period class for the day, the 10th and 12th Grade GEAR UP Students from Haileyville High School were beginning a tour of one of the areas most acclaimed college campuses, the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. The 170 acre campus of UAFS has been recognized as one of the cleanest, safest, and most beautiful campuses in the nation by such groups as the Arbor Day Foundation, America in Bloom, and the Professional Grounds Management Society.
As the Haileyville students toured the campus they learned many interesting and useful tidbits of information designed to entice them into embarking on their college studies at USAF. One of the most noted bits of information was that UAFS will NOT charge Oklahoma Students Out-Of-State Tuition. Add this to the availability of scholarship monies offered to students, UFAS quickly becomes an economical possibility for students to segue from high school into the work world awaiting them.…show more content… Many of the campuses’ Administrators are housed in the building, along with the Welcome Center, Student Dining Food Court, and the Campus Bookstore. The students walked under the shadow or the Clock Tower, the central point of the campus. The Borenham Library impressed the students with its vast array of offerings made available to students as an aide to their studies. While viewing the Pendergraft Health Sciences the students learned that not only does this building house their Health Sciences Department, but they also offer limited medical services to the students at UAFS.
