...Watson 1 ENG 11129L 9/29/10 Essay #2 Final Draft Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder “Cosmetologists are often the initiators of style and change,” Brooke Seger, a cosmetologist from Indianapolis, Indiana, stated. Style and change is very much related to cosmetology because cosmetology is all about looks. Just to get an outlook on this occupation, a lot of important information includes salary potential, working hours, availability of positions, job duties, and required training and education. All of which are important aspects to carefully look over when deciding if cosmetology is the right career for you. The Occupational Outlook Handbook [OOH] reports, “Median hourly wages in May 2008 for hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists, including tips and commission, were $11.13. Median hourly wages in May 2008 for barbers, including tips, were $11.56. Among skin care specialists, median hourly wages, including tips, were $13.81. Manicurists and pedicurists earned $9.46, and shampooers earned $8.32 (Bureau of Labor Statistics 3-4).” This seems fairly the same, since this was reported in 2008, as this year, 2010. According to today’s cosmetologists, the salary depends on the workplace, although these wages seem very similar to any normal cosmetologist. From my outlook, I think the hours are very flexible and random. I walk in to get a pedicure and I get in within 15 minutes. When I get my haircut, I usually call my hairstylist and state and time within a...

Obssesion Essay6

...thirteen, I became interested in styling my own hair in various ways. I styled my hair on a daily basis to achieve a different look. Once I realized how creative I was, I began to have clients from school or by word of mouth. My obsession for styling hair was enormous, so I decided that I wanted to become a cosmetologist. Styling hair allows me to make a person feel and look awesome as ever. It would bother me to see clients leave a salon with their hair still looking a mess. I took the initiative to be the best and nothing less at styling hair. My mom took me to hair shows to give me ideas on creating hairstyles for clients. One Christmas, my parents bought me a huge box of beauty supplies because of my obsession with styling hair. I would go and sit inside hair salons to get tips on how to magnify hairstyles. Being able to style hair in many ways and coloring the hair is part of the reason why cannot stop thinking about it. Styling hair gives me the ability to feel free and not limited to any hairstyle. If I was challenged to modify a trending hairstyle, I would gladly accept and give it my all. Hairdresser

...Discussion Hairdressing has always been a passion for Canadians, and me. Everyday people are getting their hair done, changing their color or style and to do this hairdressers will be there to inform, perform and advise the customer about their hair. Hairdressing is the art of cutting, setting, arranging, and otherwise caring for the hair. Women and men style their hair to improve their appearance and for comfort. A different hairstyle can alter a person's appearance more than almost any other physical change. Hairdressing can accent good features and hide bad ones, or draw attention away from undesirable characteristics. It provides attractive, easy-to-manage hairstyles that meet the needs and desires of the people who wear them. Hair is the most easily changed physical feature of the human body. Since prehistoric times, people have cut, braided, and dyed their hair and changed it in other ways as well. Professional hairdressers first became common during the 1700's. Today, most women and men depend on hairdressers for such services as cutting, coloring, straightening, and permanent waving. Hairdressers are also known as beauticians, beauty operators, cosmetologists, and hair stylists. Some other names that hairdressers use are: hair color technician, barber apprentice, hairdresser apprentice, wig stylist, hair stylist A high school student who wishes to become a hairdresser should study a broad range of subjects, including the arts, biology, and psychology.
