Ive learned a lot researching the history of The Hairston Family. The Hairston clan is one of the largest family in America, the Hairston clan. With several thousand black and white members, the Hairstons share a complex and compelling history: divided in the time of slavery, they have come to embrace their past as one family. The Hairston family originally was of cacasion decent. In America there were nine plantations. With the exception of one, they were located fairly close together: there were "Marrowbone" (1749) "Beaver Creek" (1776), "Berry Hill" (1782), "Hordsville" (1836), and "Red Plains" (1860), located in Henry County, Virginia; "Oak Hill" (1823), located in Pittsylvania County, Virginia; "Sauratown Hills" (1786), located in Stokes …show more content…
Soon the bond of kinship and fellowship began to surface and bind father and mother, sister and brother, and cousins left and right. HAIRSTONS, white and black, began to seek and find each other. Kinship recognition was in bloom. It was some time later that the HAIRSTON CLAN was founded, primarily through an attempt to bring about a greater involvement of family solidarity and kinship feeling among surnamed white and black relatives whose origins began in the nine plantations. It was some time later that the HAIRSTON CLAN was founded, primarily through an attempt to bring about a greater involvement of family solidarity and kinship feeling among surnamed white and black relatives whose origins began in the nine plantations.Progressing slowly through the social and legal barriers of humble beginnings and racial struggles, HAIRSTONS, all, are now beginning to join together in sincere kinship unity and expand their historical, sociological and humanitarian horizons for the good of family, country, and

Incarceration Research Paper

...causes someone to devalue or think less of the person in question” (Pedneault, 2018). Firstly, The development of a child with an incarcerated mother may differ from that of a child without an incarcerated mother. "The incarceration of a parent may present a more complicated challenge for the child than other types of parental absence because of the added effects of social, community and institutional stigma (Hairston, 2007)". Secondly, girls are usually the ones to experience second-hand victimization from their mother's incarceration because they are seen as the ones to follow in their mother's footsteps 'the apple does not fall far from the tree'. "As a result of the incarceration of their parent, some children will be experiencing secondary victimization such as shame, social stigma and discrimination" (Prison Fellowship International, n.d). In addition to that, the fear of being stigmatized can also drive these girls to hide the fact that their mothers are in prison. "The stigma associated with having a family member in prison is likely to explain why some families keep the incarceration secret from friends, neighbours, and work colleagues (Braman, 2004, as cited in Murray, Farrington & Sekol, 2012)". Given these points it can be said that stigmatization does affect the development of a child from an early age into adulthood; however, stigmatization affects girls of incarcerated mothers differently from girls with normal parents. This is because they are deprived of a complete...

The Origins of Vernacular Language

...The Origins of Vernacular Language Bryan K Hairston AIU Online Abstract In this paper the term vernacular can be defined as using a language that is native to a country, rather than an art, music, and literature, or storybook language. The vernacular language is considered as the family of modern romance languages. The vernacular languages are known for usage in Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. The Origins of Vernacular Language Earlier in the twelfth century, Latin was the major language that was used for literature and among the educated. The Italian language influenced the findings, as well as other languages consequently spreading throughout Europe (Sayre, 2013). The Latin language was developed constantly due to the significant differences during each period. Changes in the spoken language incited changes in the literary written language. This was also reflected in the less educated as well. Latin language experienced endless development during each period of its evolution. There were many differences between the literary written languages which were very distinct from the spoken language of the educated as opposed to the less educated general public. Latin was also influenced by local languages spoken or written within a larger region under the influence of what later came known as the Roman Empire (M.U.S.E). The development of writings and learning in Latin Language was strongly influenced by the Greeks. However, for people in Western Europe...

Baltimore Orioles

...The modern history of the Orioles can be traced back to the original Milwaukee Brewers of the Western League. The Brewers were there when the Western League renamed itself the American League. In 1902, the team moved to St. Louis and became the “Browns”. In their first season in St. Louis the Browns finished in second place. The Browns became more popular than their rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, beating them in attendance. In 1951, Bill Veeck, the former owner of the Cleveland Indians, purchased the Browns. Veeck attempted to move the Browns back to Milwaukee ("Baseball-Statistics"), but was blocked by other American League owners, seemingly for reasons that were more personal than business related. After Veeck was forced to sell Sportsman Park to the Cardinals, he sold the Browns to a Baltimore-based group led by attorney Clarence Miles. With Veeck gone, the American League owners quickly approved the relocation of the team to Baltimore for the 1954 season. The Browns were renamed after their move to Baltimore. The Browns name was associated with losing, so the new team name would be changed to the Orioles. The name has a rich history in Baltimore having been used by the Baltimore baseball teams of the late 1890s. In 1901, the American League announced that the Baltimore Orioles would move their franchise to New York, becoming the New York Yankees. After the move, the Orioles competed in what is now called AAA level from 1903-1953. Babe Ruth pitched for the AAA Orioles before...
