...Halloween Party Has anyone heard of a kid who wants to go to school instead of going to play with their friends? Likewise this story “Halloween Party” is identical to the statement above as these kids are so focused on school and their future, that being a kid is nonexistent. Not to mention this story is from 1980, while the mother who is hosting the party only hears thirteen-year-olds talk about Yale, Harvard, Exeter. The kids in attendance at the party only care to talk about how much money they want to make and the title of the job they want. ...recommending to forbid them. Like many Halloween is one of the traditions which is frequently discussed in this category. From outside this tradition looks very simple and fun where all the people enjoy with their families by going trick or treat. But is this tradition really like this or there are some downfalls of it? I will explain this topic in my essay and I will also discuss How did Halloween start and if we really need it anymore? Halloween is an old tradition. The word Halloween derived from the Catholic Church. It's also known as All Hallows Eve, but in the 5th century it was known as nothing more than Samhain. The purpose behind it was to celebrate the upcoming harvest and to pay respect to dead people. So why Halloween should be forbidden? The main reason is, that over the past few years Halloween is losing its actual purpose. Halloween these days is considered as costume parties and going door-to-door for trick or treating. No one actually cares about the spirits or the crops. In other words it is being commercialized and subverted. Big business also turned Halloween into a mere business tool. They brand people with their products and rub more money out of them. Businesses also use Halloween as a tool to introduce more of their junk product and advertise it. This is not related to its original purpose in any way what so ever. Another reason why Halloween should not be permitted is the amount of heart attacks takes place on Halloween are off the chart. ...The opening titles of the film are in black and orange, and they are stereotypically spooky colors. Along with these, there is a pumpkin which has suggestions of being spooky and evil as well as being a key symbol of Halloween which is linked too the film this pumpkin then slowly zooms in to fill the shot. Tense, creepy music plays in the background during the titles, this is a typical convention of Horror films. During the rest of the opening, no other sounds are used, besides footsteps and screams. This builds up uncertainty, and the silence of the scene makes the audience feel the suspension. The establishing shot is a long shot of a house in the dark. Low lighting is used to create lots of shadows. It plays with the viewers mind, and they look around, supposing something to be hiding there and it is built up for something bad to happen. A point of view shot is then used as the camera goes around the side of the house. We have not yet seen this person, but we are seeing from their perspective and they are creeping around in the shadows, it creates an anxious feeling and we feel as though we are intruding. The shot then shows two people through the window of the house, and they are unaware that they are being watched. This is used to create suspense. The point of view shot then changes so that we are seeing the shot through the eyes of the killers mask. And because of this, we can’t really see what is happening, which makes the audience nervous and gives an uncanny feeling...

...Brindi English 101 10/21/2015 Memoir Essay Do you ever wish you could go back to a moment in your life? I do. Since it’s almost Halloween I have one memory from this holiday from five years ago that I remember the most. My younger cousin Lizz and I decided to go out and trick or treat since its Halloween and we didn’t have anything else to do. It was a last minute thing, so I didn’t dress up as a certain character or anything like that, neither did Lizz. I decided to just throw on some really baggy, boy jeans that I had and a t shirt. Then I found one of my dad’s leather vests. So I threw that on too. When I put it on I looked in the pockets because I felt something in there. What I found was my dad’s cross necklace that he was looking for forever. I also stuffed a pillow under the vest so it looked like I had a big ol belly, kind of like my dad’s. Then I put on one of those clear masks that have different faces on them; they’re out every year for Halloween I swear. I’m pretty sure I wore one of my dad’s hats as well. So basically I dressed up sort of like my dad for a costume that year. My cousin Lizz also just threw a costume together. She wore some camouflage pants and a camouflage sweater. She chose to wear a clown mask with her attire. Like I said, it was a last minute thing for us. Lizz’s dad was being our driver for the night. We really didn’t go knocking from house to house asking for candy. We were smart about and went to all the assisted living places in...

...Amazing Autumn The most amazing season of the year is autumn, or as most southerners call it fall. Fall is the time of year when football comes on, the leaves change, bonfires are in full swing, and anything pumpkin and apple is selling. The anticipation of all the little trick-or-treaters, and knowing that family will be around in just a few short weeks makes the heart warm from the inside out. Fall brings Thanksgiving, Halloween, and much more, it also starts to bring everyone’s heart out. Everyone has a bigger heart it seems when fall comes and makes it appearance for a few months, after that it leaves one longing for it until it comes back around. Fall is full of wonderful things that make the season what it is. At the beginning of an East Tennessee fall, all which is heard is “Go big orange!’ All people want to see are the mountains’ trees changing from the bright green and dull green colors into reds, oranges, yellows, and some deep purples. The changing of the leaves’ color and the yelling of Tennessee Volunteer fanatics are how one will know the wonderful season fall is upon us. When fall arrives, Starbucks starts to sell pumpkin spice lattes, and Wal-Mart sells pumpkins to carve. Some will start to see women and men drinking the hot and delicious pumpkin spice lattes and children planning what to carve on their pumpkins. With children planning to carve pumpkins, people will start to see the pumpkins with rather menacing, and some humorous, faces carved into them...

...tales, were written for children. Uniquely, horror author Stephen King has said that Bambi, a classic Disney children’s story, gave him the creeps in this quote: “When that little deer gets caught in a forest fire, I was terrified, but I was also exhilarated,” Since populace grows up with fairy tales and bedtime stories, and they don’t necessarily receive nightmares from these tales. Though petite children may not be listening to the Brothers Grimm every night as a bedtime story, the majority will likely end up hearing the originals in a certain way or another. Are they honestly that frightened? Maybe a little, but that little jolt of fear can help a juvenile not become a total idiot. Next, according to storyteller Jackie Torrence in her essay “Scary Tales,” fear is an emotion that we need to use. She says that “Children need to be frightened. We all do. It’s an emotion that was given to all of us and it should be exercised. When you don’t exercise it, you lose your sense of fear. That’s why my granddaddy told me scary stories. He wanted me to know that only fools rush in where angels fear to tread. You should be a little hesitant occasionally, his stories were saying, you should think twice before going into the woods, there just might be a hairy man, and you need to be cautious.” Jackie feels quite confident in this notion, and it makes sense. Identically, if children are never shown the horror genre, would they even know that dangerous articles exist? The next generation would...

...Mexican Urban Legend: It all started with an innocent sleepover party on October 31st. Isabella didn't know the other girls, but she was invited anyway. That night, that darkest and quietest of Halloween nights, they decided to play truth or dare. When it was Isabella's turn, she picked Dare and one of the girls said, "I dare you to the Donald Trump". Isabella thought about it for a few minutes, and accepted. The other girls gave Isabella a lit candle, pushed her into the bathroom, and closed the door. With the candle being her only source of light, she set it aside and stood in front of the mirror. Looking only at herself, she said his name 3 times, cringing and flinching with every syllable; “Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Donald Trump”....

...In mid October, leafs would cover the ground forming what looked to be an orange ocean stretching for miles. Walking down the long, gravel road home after school grew on me nostalgically as I had did it so many times before. The sight of leafs and semi cold weather was a perfect sign that Halloween was right around the corner. As any other kid I was piqued with excitement and wonder to what costume I would wear that Halloween. Less than a week away to Halloween I had gotten severely sick. “But mom i'm fine enough to go walking down the street for peats sake!,” I said trying to hide my fatigue. “You’re too sick to go walking in the cold like this hun,” she replied optimistically. She had seen past my lie, the words echoed in my head, filling...
