During the Classical period, c. 206 BCE to 476 CE, two powerful regimes existed, the Han dynasty in Asia and Imperial Rome in Europe. Although these countries were very far in distance and only came in contact through trade, both empires were strong and well organized due to this Rome and Han China both had great success. The Han dynasty lasted for roughly 426 years, while Imperial Rome lasted 507 years, and through their long reigns, they were able to achieve great advancements in technology and economy. Han China and Imperial Rome, both had a powerful central government with well-organized bureaucracies, the fall of these dynasties was because of over expansion and taxation of land. Both these civilizations were dominated by patriarchy and reverence for fathers. However, through the reverence for fathers, the Han developed a model of organization for the state. This model, which formed through Confucianism and a strong patriarchy belief caused men to be powerful in the all aspects whereas mothers and children were less crucial. Although Imperial Rome also had strong beliefs of patriarchy, they did not develop this model. An important ritual in both Rome and Han China was ancestral worship or veneration of the ancestors , they both believed that their ancestors could help them spiritually by bringing wealth and strong political influences. Although the political strength of these empires were powerful, both fell due to a common problem of over expansion, which led to an invasion and taxation because of land rewards to soldiers.
