The Hansberry vs. Lee case took place in the year of 1940. When Hansberry and his family moved into a white neighborhood. While they were living in that neighborhood the house owners gathered together to sign the racial restrictive covenant. A racial restrictive covenant is a contract for house owners agreeing that black people cannot purchase or lease lands from home owners. Hansberry was notified through a note saying that he and his family has to leave their house because of the covenant. Hansberry brought the note to the court saying that he will sue them for what they are doing to him and his family.
