Suicide-Personal Narrative

...Suicidal As I lay on the cold locker room floor I watched as they laughed at me from above. It was only my second week at this school. I have given no reason for them to not like me. As I was laying on the ground I was thinking about how much I missed my old school and how much I missed my old friends. I wanted to disappear into a black hole. I got up off the floor and ran out of the locker room. I was so embarrassed. I went to my locker and called my Mom. I told her what happened and that they were calling me fat and that Clarice pushed me on the ground. She came to pick me up and we went home to talk about what happened at school. The same kind of things kept happening for the next couple weeks. People were giving me a hard time for being...

Due Process

...a formal verbal warning and reminder of the policy regarding no company property other than protective gear or clothing could be in employee’s lockers. * The verbal warning/reminder ended with a statement indicating that anyone caught violating the rule would be subject to discipline, including the possibility of discharge. * There is a formal policy that is listed in the employee handbook which Maria received upon starting that states “willfully removing or unauthorized possession of property or documents of the Company will constitute just cause for disciplinary action, up to and including discharge.” * Management did not just take Cecelia’s word for the fact that Maria had company property in her locker, they actually checking and confirmed. * Maria was given an opportunity to explain herself regarding the company property in her locker. * Maria was not immediately released; she was suspended without pay while the company did a further investigation. * After the investigation resulted in understanding that company property in lockers was a common occurrence, Maria was given another chance to explain/defend her situation. B. Arguments to support that Maria was NOT provided due process: * Maria may argue that although she was given an opportunity to explain why she had company property in her locker, she was nervous and caught off guard which caused her to lie due to the stressful situation. * Maria may be able to justify her lie by showing...

Improving Campus

...Executive Summary This proposal aims to indicate why the integration of lockers on campus proves to be a wise investment that shall benefit not only the students, but also the university as a whole. By taking this step towards improvement, we can create an environment in which our students can easily access their personal belongings, therefore facilitate the learning process, create a safer environment and decrease theft. Organizational Capacity As Logistics students we clearly understand the importance of having the resources when and where needed, otherwise the production process can't function properly. So is the case with education - education is a process, an ongoing process in which we turn from ''work in progress" to highly skilled, ambitious "finished goods" ready to go onto the labor market. But in order for this process to run smoothly - we require access to our resources - in this case textbooks, notebooks, calculators - and need all these resources to be available on time for lectures. By making this investment and giving us our small warehouses (our own private locker), you provide us with the accessibility and motivation needed for us to continue our learning experience and reach the goal that we,as students share - become tomorrow's leaders. This investment will also help the university in getting closer to achieving one of its strategic goals - improving infrastructure, by focusing on a specific objective - "Establish, enhance and improve...

Owen Goes Home

...Owen celebrated his 75th birthday by returning to Bygone, Maine…the small southern coastal community that had infused his childhood with irrepressible curiosity and courage, and burdened his twilight years with wistful memories. Fifteen years had passed since he and Hazel had made the heart wrenching decision to leave their beloved hometown – rudely displaced from their home by a greedy city council armed with the authority of eminent domain. The Bygone council, ostensibly concerned with the future economic viability of their city, had entered into an agreement with a large construction firm specializing in the development of golf resort communities. The contract stipulated completion of the project within 5 years, and promised a 100% return on the city’s initial investment within 3 years following completion. What the city council had not planned for was a massive nation-wide recession. Once the economy began to decline, even affluent golf enthusiasts were foregoing extravagant resort experiences, instead favoring investment in their local private clubs, as a measure of ‘doing their part’. After two years of development, the construction firm abandoned the project and left only the frames of two buildings and a few orphaned golf greens, without fairways, in its wake. Unable to afford a costly legal battle, the city of Bygone accepted a modest monetary settlement, in exchange for their silence regarding the firm’s actions. The day Owen arrived in Bygone marked exactly six months...

Personal Narrative-Home

...We encounter one more swarming crowd before entering the dark tunnel that lead out to the football field. Just before the hallway ends, Alexis pulls out a key and jams it into the door handle. With a quick flick of the wrist, the door swings open and the mixed smells of perfume and hairspray greet us. On the other end of the padded mat is a door that leads to the gym and Alexis is wasting no time getting to it. “Jake is supposed to meet us on the other side,” she says over her shoulder. Sure enough, when she opens the door, a long, chiseled face with slightly sun bleached brown hair is waiting. “Hey gorgeous,” he says, bending over to give her a quick peck. When he sees me he adds, “Welcome back, Viv. Good to see the South let you return.” I laugh and follow behind them. “Yeah, granddad is still furious at daddy for bringing us up here. It's been nineteen years. You would think he would get over it. He even offered to send me to some snooty private school if I would just move back but I just couldn’t leave you two alone. Lord only knows what kind of trouble you could get into?” “Well, on behalf of our virtue, I think you made the right choice. Senior year would be completely different without you.” "It's going to be different no matter what," Alexis sniffs before smiling brightly and waving to friends in the crowd. She strays a few feet away to take her seat with some of the other cheerleaders and motions for me to sit next to her. I hold up a finger to tell her I’ll be there...

Noiy

...the street lights were somehow turned off. As we entered the university’s main entrance we started to feel unease due to the fact that there were no police officers guarding the main entrance. We went up the hill passing through the HEA parking space and getting closer to the library. We were talking very lively as we get closer and closer to the library not knowing the terror that awaits us there. Just arrived in front of the library, as we were chatting suddenly something strikes at the back of my mind. I thought I heard some weird noise coming from the lockers. I just kept on walking as I tried to convince myself that it was only my imagination. But then, Aiman and Azri pulled me by the sleeves and said that they also heard the weird noise. All of a sudden, we were shocked by a loud sound like a locker was being banged opened. Our hearts literally skip a beat. We thought it was the wind slamming on one of the opened locker so we kept on walking. Just before going down the stairs, we heard a loud echoing scream coming from behind us. Our body were frozen, we can’t move, we can’t run, we can’t even scream for help as an intense sense of fear flowed through our body. The noise kept getting louder and louder. Our hearts were throbbing so fast, it felt like it was going to burst out of our chest. We looked at each other and tried to gather all the courage that we...

Delivery Analysis of Any Given Sunday Speech

...by Al Pacino) gives a riveting speech right before his team takes the field for their biggest football game of the year. The coach delivers the speech to his players as they all watch on one knee, eager to take the field. We, the television audience, watch from a distance, through cameras that pan around the room and give us the feeling of being part of the team as well. We also get the added effect of music that speeds up and slows down as the pace of the speech alters. The different shots of players and their reactions to the speech also help to subconsciously alter the way we feel. If we see a player with his head down in tears, we will feel pity. However, the use of different cameras to show the rising confidence throughout the locker room gets us, the audience, on board with the coaches message and we sometimes are even ready to take the field with the team. These effects dramatically enhance the impact the speech has on us viewers, and is an added dimension that cannot be created through live speaking. Coach D’Amato’s physical appearance parallels his message even before he starts to speak. His messy hair and open shirt with glasses hanging down portray a sense of tenacity and an obvious chip on the coach’s shoulder. He grasps his coaching papers in his hands, shuffling them, pacing around the room. His mannerisms show anxiety, nervousness; he is truly speaking unscripted and from the heart. Once he finally speaks, his gritty voice brings with it a tough, in-your-face...

...resent this monitoring, if it is in the open. “I don’t think people mind having their work checked,” says Morton Bahr, president of the Communications Workers of America. “It’s the secretive- ness of it” that bothers employees.39 According to the American Management Association, three-quarters of employers record employees’ voice mail, e-mail, or phone calls; review their computer files; or even videotape them—often without their knowledge.40 In 2006 an Ohio firm took things a step further when it embedded RDIF (radio frequency identification) chips in the arms of two employees to help control access to secured areas—the first known case of a company’s electronically tagging workers.41 Tightening security and overseeing customer service are not the only reasons companies monitor their employees. Some companies, for example, check employees’ computers to see whether they exceed the allotted time for lunch or work breaks; others listen in on phone conversations and examine e-mail messages to catch employees conducting personal business on company time. “What are they going to think up to do to us next?” wonders one employee. “It’s scary. I’ll bet no one monitors the phones or e-mail of CEOs and other top executives.”42 Nancy Flynn, executive director of ePolicy Institute, agrees with that sentiment. “In a lot of organizations,” she says, “the senior executives are immune from [electronic] monitoring.”43 If so, this raises a basic moral objec- tion. As explained in Chapter 1 and...

Students in 21st Century

...I completed my survey inside of a high school hockey locker room. This locker room is full of a lot of personalities. In the locker room you have immature to mature, girls and boys. This locker room is a condensed room of all different types of people. Social/interpersonal behaviors- While conducting my survey the first thing that I noticed right away was that the kids all swear, a lot. The kid’s in that locker room would swear almost every other word out of theirs mouths. When talking one on one with each other I noticed right away that they have bad manners, either texting while being spoken too. Not only texting, but also most of the kids make no eye contact when talking to each other. Topics of discussion- In the locker room their lots of different discussions, since the team is made up of mostly teen boys, a lot of talk was about girls. Being younger myself I found it funny listening them talk about whom they like, and how they are going to ask them on dates. The biggest shock for me was how much the kids complained. If something little went wrong they complained about. One conversation I found interesting was one kid said that since his parents are so well off he doesn’t have to try in school. Even though that may be true it just shows the immaturity of these teens. Common phrases and verbiage- Being teenagers they say a lot of weird things. Only being twenty one years of age I still like to think of myself as down to earth and still think I know a little...

...Connecticut Valley School The purpose of this simulation is to properly disburse the capital budget funds for the next year at Connecticut Valley School. With the seven priorities listed, some will bring in money while others will not. Ranking is done by what will bring profit into the school quicker and that money will go toward other projects at a later time. Also, to focus on things that more less need to be fixed to ensure safety for students and staff. This year’s capital will be spent towards funding for a swimming pool, renovations to fine arts building, new roof for the hockey rink, wood chip heating system, upgrading the computer lab, new buses, and lastly renovations to the women’s locker room. This ranking should go well with the board of trustees because each project will benefit the one after it. The pool, if open to outside organizations will bring in revenue that will bring back the initial $640,000 invested in it in at least five years. The additional revenue earned could go toward helping the renovations of the fine arts building. If the school's mission is to focus on the liberal arts aspect, providing the best amenities will draw in more students. Of course the safety of students and staff is very important and even if the repairs for the hockey rink roof are delayed for a year, it is important to add that to the top of priorities. The longer the school waits to fix an issue such as this has potential of getting worse and no one's safety should be compromised...

Journal of Flour Baby

...have to treat it seriously and care about it. So I found my friend Fiona and borrowed a pretty baby clothe to dress up Muamua, and it makes me think of that maybe in the future, if I’m really having a baby girl I would dress up her like a princess as I dress up Muamua. But my enthusiasm end at the second weeks, I start to feel that to carry a flour baby around is a big trouble. I had to carry her everywhere I went, even the bathroom. To be honest, she is not light, I feel so annoying when I had to carry her, and in fact I don’t like to carry things since I was a child, so when I need to carry things my families and friends would help me but at this time I need to carry her around with no help. I’ve think about just leave her in the locker so it won’t be lost and I don’t need to carry her around. But this is not gonna work. Honestly, I do lost her a few times, but not at school, I usually lost her at home, because I always put her on the sofa right after I walking the door instead of put her carefully in my bedroom.
