...Hardships Susana Aguilera Carrington College of California Hardships I decided to talk with my dad, he is 78 years old. He is retired and lives with my mom who is also retired. He worked at Campbell Soup Company for 42 years before he retired. He was very active in sports, played senior softball until his kidneys failed him. When we were talking about the different hardships that he has gone through or is afraid of going through, one came up more frequent than others and that was not being able to do the things that he used to or wants to. That is the hardest thing for him right now. He was so independent and loved to be outside working or wants to help his children; grandchildren do things or fix things for us. But there were others that came up as well that he may go through as well as others. The first is a hardship that anyone can go through and that income. Since my parents are both on fixed incomes, they need to stay on budget. He expressed that one can stress on how they will make it through the month. The stress of paying the mortgage, utilities, other bills or being able to afford the things that they want to enjoy at this time, like traveling. He says you work all your life to support your family and now you want to enjoy your life now but you can’t, that can be really depressing. He says he knows that it is hard for everyone right now with the economy being the way it is, but it’s so much harder for them to go out and get a job. It’s not only difficult...

...When the Jamestown colony first formed, citizens had to endure many sacrifices and hardships. From losses to starvation and shortage of supplies, the people of Jamestown had to suffer through a series of crisis. If I had planned the Jamestown colony I would have sent farmers, craftsmen, doctors, and interpretors that could speak the Native American language, a seperate ship full of supplies and established a democracy. By sending people who are specialized in certain skills like farming, handywork, medicine, and interpretation it would increase the colony's chance for survival with with less casualties. One of the problems Jamestown faced was the lack of experience in farming, which led to failed crops. By hiring farmers this would have increased their chance in survival by establishing a steady source of food through produce. Craftsmen would provide sturdy housing for remaining citizens, instead of flimsy a shelter, and doctors would treat infections, wounds, and possibly help find treatments to foregin disease they eventually faced in the future. At that time even the smallest signs of abrasion would have led to infection that would have eventually led to fatality. Even though those three occupations would have been beneficial to the colony in the...

...Re: Rosaura Munoz Juan Munoz To whom this may concern, I, Jun, Dee’s younger sister, am writing on behalf of Dee and Doo regarding her immigration status. My sister was brought into the United States by our mother and father when she was a toddler. I am aware of the fact that they entered the U.S. territory illegally, but inspite of their actions; they were only in search of a better economic lifestyle. Dee has lived her entire life in the United States and has never returned to Mexico since then. If you were not to grant her permission to return back with us, many things will drastically be affected, like her husband, their children, and her life. Doo has been an amazing brother-in-law. I am so proud of all of his accomplishments throughout his life serving in our Army to defend our nation. He already has to deal with many things regarding his job, and the thought of taking his wife out of his life has only made it more stressful for him. I could not imagine Doo’s life without my sister being a part of it. Secondly, my nephew and niece would be devastated to hear their mother cannot return to their home. Every child needs a mother’s warmth to feel safe and loved. Separating them from Dee can have a negative impact for their futures. ...Hard Ship Letter I am writing this letter to explain to you about my current situation that is going from bad to worse. This continued hardship has crippled my ability to pay for my mortgage on this house. Since the beginning of 2009, I had lost a career and regained a much lesser paying job and my income has been greatly reduced. In addition, there were 11 months of vacancy at this property which I tried desperately to fill up. Then, as of January 2009, we finally got a new tenant but the tenant was only able to pay two-thirds of the monthly rent, and I had to come up with the rest of the monthly mortgage amount. Besides that, I had other personal loans and debts which I am still paying off. I have tried to refinance this property but I was unable to do so because of the drastic market drop. I have been trying to keep up with the mortgage payments using my savings up to this point, hoping that the economy will recover soon. At this time, my savings are gone and I know that I am not able to pay the mortgage with this high rate of interest. I tried to pay the partial amount for this monthly mortgage but your bank did not accept my partial mortgage payments. I tried to do loan modification and was turned down by your bank. Now, I am requesting that you allow me to do short sale on this property and post pone the trustee sale date, scheduled to be effective on 10/05/2009, so that I can salvage this house value and make the short sale payments to your bank. I am...

...Ms. Grattan, I am writing to request a hardship withdrawal from GGC for the Fall 2015 semester. Originally, I simply withdrew with failure from my classes because I did not think that what I was going through was enough to merit a hardship withdrawal. However, I now believe that is not the case, and am writing you to explain my situation. I will try to be as concise as possible. This is difficult for me to talk about, but I will try my best. In the spring of 2015, I attended a private Christian college, Southern Virginia University, in Buena Vista, Virginia. At the time, I was in a going on two-year relationship with my boyfriend, who attended the United States Naval Academy in Maryland. Our relationship was on the rocks, and he ignored me a lot. I tried everything I could to fix it, but nothing worked, and I fell into a depression. During this time, I was taken advantage of by one of my classmates. This classmate coerced me into having sex with him, among other things I did not want to do, and what little self-esteem I had plummeted. I attempted to cut off contact with this person, but he sat next to me in class, and would always to try to talk to me. I felt extremely broken, used, and...

...In the eighteenth century many New England Americans faced hardships and prosperities. The New England Americans lack a lot of what we are lucky to have today, which effected their family life and community. The lack of modern medicine made life expectancy very low. Many people who became ill eventually died or became dependent on other members of their family to survive. Once a person died especially if it was one or both of the parents, which made living and money very hard on their families. Many of the men in the families were farmers, members of the community such as ministers, or even members of the state such as lawyers. Women often stayed home making household items, along with caring and raising for the children. Although it was mostly men who attended colleges like Yale and Harvard, some women were educated as well if their families could afford it. Most education was the teaching of practical skills for the up keeping of the household and religious based knowledge. ...Frederick Douglass was a slave in America until the age of 20. He wrote three of the most highly regarded autobiographies of the 19th century, while he only began learning to read and write when he turned 12 years old. After an early life of hardship and pain, Douglass escaped to the North to write three autobiographies, which spaced along decades. He wrote about his life as a slave and a freeman. The institution of slavery scarred him so intensely that he decided to devote his powers of speech and prose to fighting it. Douglass wrote three biographies about his life as a politician, slave, and abolitionist. However, the historical value of these works does not remain as important as the quality of the works themselves. Frederick Douglass’ writing deserves recognition in the canon of great American authors, because his work meets the chosen criteria for inclusion in a collection of important literature. Douglass influenced many famous abolitionists with his literary works, and this impact, coupled with his desire to write an expose about oppression in America, makes him a winning candidate. Although his published works, mostly autobiographies, received much acclaim from abolitionists, this paper explores the quality of Douglass’s work from a literary standpoint. To fully appreciate the impact of Douglass’s autobiographies, we must examine violent period in which he lived. Douglass, born in 1818, grew up as a slave on Colonel Lloyd’s plantation in eastern Maryland. At the time...

Keith Yarborough is proof that this is not the case. Even though he was raised in a home that was considered privileged financially, racism and ethnic hardships were still a part of his life.
