Hardware Replacement Project
A hardware replacement project is a serious undertaking for a business to implement. It is essential that the project have proper management in order for the project to be a success. According to Laudon and Laudon (2013), “Project management refers to the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to achieve specific targets within specified budget and time constraints” (p. 389). This can be achieved if the five major variables of project management are followed; these five variables are, scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. If the business project managers closely follow the variables by utilizing knowledge and skills, the replacement of the hardware can go smoothly and efficiently.
Scope is the variable where the project is defined by what work needs to be done, and what should be implemented within the entire project. In other words, scope should be planned before the project even begins, and done as the project progresses. It is the projects manager’s job to make sure the scope of the project is maintained and followed, to insure a successful completed project. The scope for the hardware replacement project would include what type of hardware is needed for the CRM programs that the organization wants to run, so the business can continue to grow and generate profit.
The time variable is self explanatory, in which the project must be completed within the given deadlines. Project management determines how long the project should take to complete and breaks the schedule down further to major components, activities and task (Laudon & Laudon, 2013). For example, finding the right time to replace the hardware would be just as crucial as how long it would take. Replacing hardware during a peak season might not be wise, and can

...Hardware Replacement Project Steven Royster IT/205 Matthew Juliana 25 March 2012 The IT department wants to replace their old CRM with a new CRM solution. The only problem is that their existing hardware is old and out of date thus will not support the new CRM. I have been called in to not only access the situation but to analyze what equipment will be needed and help install the equipment. This has to be done before the new CRM can be installed and implemented. Before all that can happen I first must come up with a report for the executives that talks about the five project management variables and how they relate to the upcoming project. I will also discuss what considerations should be thought about as to get the company the best value and what factors will influence the project risk along with how to keep those risks down to a minimal amount. In order to get the picture of how the new CRM will work out the five major variables of project management must be analyzed to see how they will fit in to the scenario. The five major variables are scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. Every one of these variables will play a role in this project so I will discuss each one: 1. Scope defines what work is or is not included in a project. For this particular project there will be a scope for new networking equipment as well as computer equipment to implement the new CRM. The borderline of the scope for the project must not be crossed because it can possibly mess up one of...

The IT department for example faces the decision to implement a new CRM solution along with installing new hardware. By moving forward with the CRM application change, the IT department is putting itself at risk. With excellent project management and analysis, the development of new CRM applications and hardware can result in a low risk high gain production if managed accordingly. Throughout this paper I will discuss the analysis, which should be conducted through project management. I will discuss the five variables of the IT department’s project management which include scope, time, cost, quality, and risk as to how they relate to the department’s decision making with the new application launch. Points that should be considered prior to selecting projects for the best business value will also be discussed. I will then conclude this paper with the factors that influence project risk and what I believe can minimize them. I will begin with the IT department scoping the project for what systems, applications, and tools will be used in this project. The company is considering to update its current CRM system which is not compatible with its corresponding out dated hardware. The department has to scope the tools necessary to support the new CRM application, which is up to date hardware. Project management...

The new hardware replacement project will have five major factors, which are time, quality, cost, scope, and risk. The CRM has many ways it can be setup to use the best technology for the best solution for the organization. Numerous issues can come up for risks with this type of project as well as innovative new strategies to reducing the risks involved with CRM projects like this one. Some of the best ways to prepare for and supervise the hardware replacement projects, and also a look of the processes involved. For project management these need to be considered: planning of the work, risk assessment, anticipated resources needed to complete the work, work organization, the material and human resources, task assignments, direction For the CRM, supervision of CRM implementation, the progression of the project, and examining of the negative aspects and benefits of the project. Hardware Replacement Project

...Hardware Replacement Project IT/205 January 26, 2014 Instructor:Jerry Holt A customer relationship management system (CRM) is used by companies to determine whom their loyal customers are and what their needs and wants are. “CRM systems capture and integrate customer data from all over the organization, consolidate the data, analyze the data, and then distribute the results to various systems and customer touch points across the enterprise” (Laudon & Laudon, 2013, p. 275). This information helps the company get to know their customers. While larger companies may not be able to know each customer individually and on a more personal level to learn what their interests are, the data collected and analyzed using a CRM system, allows them to do something similar on a larger scale. This data helps a company determine what products their customers are purchasing most, or where higher amounts of money are being spent, as well as the cost of selling to each customer. Is it more costly to sell to a higher volume of newer customers, as opposed to a smaller volume of repeat customers? If a new customer’s information must be collected and documented to provide a service, it may be more costly to do so with a large volume of new customers, as opposed to a repeat customer, whose information is already stored. For this customer, a transaction is all that needs to be processed, saving both time and money. When a CRM becomes outdated or no longer fits the needs of the business...

...Assignment Hardware Replacement Project The five major variables involved in this project are scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. These variables must be considered in any project actually, as they are the determining factors of success of the project or the failure of any project. One of the very first concerns regarding the project that must be scrutinized is the projects scope, meaning, everything that the project entails. Exactly what is to be included into the project and what is to be excluded. At the onset, this can be a general idea, but before long, it must become a specific quantity. The scope will be determined by studying what is happening now, and what needs to happen and what changes need to be made. A considerable amount of this information can be garnered from the employees who will be using the finished project, and from the upper echelon that need the ability to output the information that they require. The time that this project will take must also be taken into consideration, based on the customers’ needs. Some customers may have a very large time frame, whereas others may only have a limited time, such as in-between seasons, to implement a new system. We must also consider the changeover, or conversion time required, and the all-important task of the time involved in training the employees on the new system to avoid introducing new errors. Attempting to make the project overly complex is also a time related subject. It is easy to add items to the project that...

...Hardware Implementation Replacing hardware at any organization, regardless of the size of said organization, can be an overwhelming task if one goes into it unprepared. When replacing the hardware, one must have a complete and thorough understanding of the issue. The issue may need to be fully investigated so more members of the organization have a better understanding of the problem. Coming up with and evaluating alternatives then possibly selecting the best option would come next. The final stage of implementing a hardware replacement would involve replacing a system, testing it, introducing the new system to the organization, and refining the overall process over time. One also needs to look at the five major variables of project management - scope, time, cost, quality, and risk involved in the process. The five major variables of project management need to be evaluated and applied to this particular situation. First of those variables we will look at is the scope of the project. Scope is what work is or is not included in a project. An example of this is given in the textbook. The scope of a project for a new order processing system might include new modules for inputting orders and transmitting them to production and accounting but not any changes to related accounts receivable, manufacturing, distribution, or inventory control systems. In a hardware replacement project, this could include what systems are being changed out with new hardware but retaining existing software...

...Hardware Replacement Project This paper is a discussion concerning the upcoming hardware replacement project that is rapidly approaching the IT department with the implementation of a new CRM into our existing infrastructure to replace the less efficient version that we have currently in place. To do this correctly an important factor regarding the hardware must be addressed first, which is the cause for this project. The equipment that is currently in place has to be improved to support the upgraded functions that we wish to utilize with the updated CRM system. To properly implement this transformation we have to address all of the main variables possible with proper project management. Project Management Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to achieve specific targets within specified budget and time line constraints (Laudon, 2011). Within project management are these variables required for us to manage in order for us to complete a task like this successfully. The first variable that we must understand completely is the Scope, which defines the work that is or is not included in a project (Laudon, 2011). Understanding the scope is understanding what work will be required for the goal which is the proper implementation and function of the new CRM by upgrading the current IS infrastructure by replacing if necessary equipment that is deemed non-functional, obsolete, or incompatible with current operational standards or need’s...

Cisco Systems Inc Implementing Erp

...John Morgridge joined Cisco as a CEO in the year 1988. The very first thing he notices in the organization was the lack of professional management team. Initiation for professional management team was the first kick off for the organization. Professional management is considered to be the foundation of any big organization and Cisco started with this thereby sticking with the fundamentals. The professional team clashed with the founders ending up them leaving the company and giving a free hand to Morgridge to handle the organization in a disciplined manner in terms of management. Cisco as an organization started off with a very positive note thereby centralizing the functional areas. Except product marketing and research and development all the other areas (finance, human resources, manufacturing, IT, customer support etc.) were centralized. Although the initial changes in the organization doesn’t claims to the success factor for future implementation, but yes it certainly add a bit to It thereby streamlining the management with a transparent and clear view to proceed. The company was doing extremely well after going public in 1990 and in 1993 reaching the $500 million target. From this it can be clearly seen that the company was in a rapid move to success from the moment it became public in 1990. Analyzing the requirements in the right stage and planning for it is the first initiation which stands for cisco’s success. The need was addressed with respect to the future growth...
