Homework: Helpful or Harmful?
Is homework harmful or helpful? In today’s education system, schools are preparing students for college by pressuring them to increase their test scores. Test scores seem to provide educators with a good standpoint of the student’s intelligence level. Therefore, educators have been ordering homework to be done since elementary school. A Countless number of students are being assigned a great amount of homework every day because educators think that it is essential and helpful. However, too much homework has seemed to negatively affect students in many ways. In recent studies, there has been a widespread call to realize the disadvantages of homework due to the strain it puts on students. Although homework may seem favorable because it seems to keep students busy and working, homework should not be considered the primary tool to improve students since homework medically affects students, is time consuming, and interferes with family life.
Homework has medical affect on students since they are becoming sleep deprived as they struggle to complete a homework assignment that is due the next day. Studies show that students are now taking more risks due to excessive amounts of homework that cannot be completed efficiently in a given time. According to CNN Health’s Medical Assignment Manager Ann J. Curley, studies conducted show that more than two-thirds of American students report they are getting less than eight hours of sleep on school nights, which is considered not enough amount of sleep for a student. Sleeping less has been linked with risky behaviors like drinking alcohol, smoking, and even using drugs. These risks are known to lower physical activity, causing obesity and or feeling depressed. CNN Health sleep expert Dr. Lisa Shrives says, “The majority of people are aware if they are sleep deprived, they cannot make good decisions.

Private Tutions

...The practice of giving private tuitions and teaching students in coaching classes in shifts is increasing day by day in India. The parents of the Indian boys and girls are mostly of the view that their wards can only get better knowledge only by tuitions and different coaching classes, which are generally run of the working teachers of colleges, universities and unemployed educated youth. It is my personal experience that even teachers teaching in lower classes i.e. from primary to junior high school advise the parents of the students that their wards could only get through in home examinations and would be able to secure good marks if are taught by their own teachers, either way of tuitions or coaching. The candidates preparing for different competitive examinations are lured by different coaching institutions. The main aim of these coaching institutions is to earn maximum profit and they do not care to educate the candidates to acquire detailed knowledge of subjects. These institutes only prepare the candidates keeping in view the fourth coming examinations. PRIVATE TUTIONS: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES Parents are worried that their children are unable to cope with school work. As such, they hire private tutors to coach them or send them to tuition centers for extra lessons. Private tuitions can be advantageous. Sometimes students are unable to concentrate during lessons for various reasons, such as distractions, not feeling well or explanation gaps. Therefore, students...

Every student gets homework whether he is in primary level or he is studying Master’s program. There are many debate going on weather homework is good or bad. I think Homework is bad for student and it may sometimes prove to be dangerous to his life. Firstly, many schools think homework is good for students as they think it keep mind engage and helps to make student sharp. They also think that homework helps to build patience and develops the problem solving skill so they support giving more homework. Here some of the thing may be true but what they don’t know is that homework cause death. Yes, there are many case where homework caused death. One of the case is of China where “In Jiangxi, 3 primary school girls hold hands and jump off a building to commit suicide because of too much homework [sic]”. Here three girl died because they were unable to finish their homework. Secondly, many researcher have found that homework helped to increase the productivity of student. But they neglect the fact that too much homework caused counterproductive as well “Pope and her colleagues found that excess homework can diminish its effectiveness and even be counterproductive. Television Harmful to Students

...Television Harmful to Students’ Academic Potential As children, we have highly impressionable minds and ambitions. Therefore, their minds are still in the stages of setting up foundations for knowledge and intrigue and it is crucial that children are raised with the compassion for schoolwork and a habit for excellent work ethics. This is important because, even in today’s society, so many American children watch television habitually in an unhealthy manner and spend an increasing number of hours in stead of more constructive activities. Television is precarious to a students’ potential for education because it consumes precious time that could be spent on schoolwork, encourages inactivity and procrastination and promotes inappropriate themes. As children watch television more and more frequently, they become routinely accustomed to watching specific shows at certain times and for a certain number of hours. Most shows span for thirty minutes and if watched excessively, spending time in front of the television will take a dangerous chunk of the students’ time for homework. Precious time that could be spent on schoolwork, exercise or beneficial recreational activities is limited as students become too attached to an ongoing show they ‘must see.’ Once students lose the time to complete homework and studying, grades will undoubtedly suffer. As grades are put aside and left uncompleted, parents and teachers will realize too late that their children are fixated on watching...

...able to help the other one with a problem. Deal with cramps right away. When there’s something you don’t understand, you may be tempted to just put it aside and hope for the best. That strategy doesn’t work at all in math! Because everything builds, if you don’t understand A you will probably not understand B and C either. If this happens in class, ask a question right away. Don’t apologize and don’t worry about looking stupid; probably other people have exactly the same question. Outside of class, use the Baker Center tutors or talk through the problem with your study buddy. Visit your instructor during office hours or make an appointment for another time. Warm up before the event. Before class, look back over the readings and your homework. Make sure you are ready with any questions. Stay in training. Review your notes after class, even rewrite them to make sure you understand everything. If there are several days between classes, review the material at least every other day to keep it fresh in your mind. Make sure you train enough. The College recommends 2–3 hours per classroom hour, but you may need more. Recognize especially that in the summer you’re making a big time commitment. If your class meets five days a week for an hour and 40 minutes a day, that’s two 50-minute classroom hours, which means you should expect to study 4–6 hours per night, every...

How to Be a Successful College Student

...my head. The best way and the only one to obtain knowledge is by studying. Study habits are one of the essential tools that I must obtain or enhance in order to be successful. It’s not something that can be brushed off. Having a good study habit, avoiding distraction, and having a strong resolve has lead me to accomplishing my first semester here at TC3. When tackling assignments I had to make sure to plan well in advance; break down projects into manageable chunks, and setting goals along the way. Completing homework and class readings on time and avoid waiting until the last minute for important deadlines. Studying involves reading the textbooks, understand them, being able to explain it to others and sometimes memorize the most important concepts. It is important to have a special place and a special time to study. I try to find a peaceful place and also try to study during the times that work best. While studying, I also use this time to do the homework and assigned reading. I still need to learn to be good on time management skills. Learning to balance school, family and social life is one of the most important things to learn and I am still struggling...
