Short Stories have always meant a lot to me. They played a very important part in my childhood. They have taught me core values and create situations that I can relate to. The short stories you have created and put together in your Anthology called Crazy Loco shows me what a relationship between a grandfather and a grand-son is like and gave me a story to relate to what it is like to change environment. In your short story of Papa Lalo, it showed me how it is to be very close with your grandfather. Papa Lalo gave me an idea of a grandfather; very giving, doesn’t talk that much, but if he talks it is very wise, drinks beers, and other aspects of a grandfather I would imagine. The connection between Papa Lalo and Harry was like how I imagined. Both of my Grandparents died before I had gotten to know them very well. This had deprived me of an experience with my grandfathers, and it felt like I could never relate to my friends when they would come back from a trip talking about how amazing their grandparents where. The brothers, Jordan and Todd, were very new to the heat of South Texas. They were new to just about everything and didn’t like the change. They were also a very different ethnicity from their Mexican cousin. Similarly, I had come from the Philippines and I was a very different ethnicity than many of the people here in the Rio Grande Valley. I was very different from everyone and I didn’t like that. I didn’t understand a majority of what my friends was say or call me. Even though I wasn’t very rude like the California Cousins, I could relate to them in the sense that they were very different and had to change to the environment of South Texas.
