Modern Art Research Paper

...Throughout history, mankind has been inclined towards expression through many artistic media. Early art mainly focused on expressing the form of humanity, rather than the emotions and thought that make us human beings. When art, specifically sculpture, shifted towards what we know as the modern movement, it was somewhat shunned, or touted as being inferior to traditionalist styles. My research paper will focus specifically on the difference between modern and traditional styles of art, the dynamic between them, and how both styles contributed to how we view art today, as well as the vilification of modern art in the eyes of the art world. My interest in this topic mainly stems from my own personal interest in art, because it’s what i want to...

Literature Review - the Achievement Gap

...disadvantaged, cultural Literature Review Introduction: According to a recent study conducted by the Council of the Great City Schools, Black and Hispanic males constitute almost 80 percent of youth in special education programs. In addition, Black males make up 20 percent of all students in the United States classified as mentally retarded, although they are only nine percent of the student population (Barbarin 2011). Over the years, overrepresentation of African American males placed in special education programs continues to be a growing problem and it has not gone unnoticed that some of these identified minorities have been misplaced and inaccurately diagnosed. This paper reviews peer reviewed journal articles on this phenomenon. The authors attempt to explain, through qualitative and quantitative research, where the discrepancies originate – the process for student referrals and the roles of teachers, administration, and parents. They also look at what adjustments can be made as well as strategies and techniques that can be implemented to reduce the number of African American students misplaced. In each of the journals reviewed, the ultimate goal is a solution to the problem. Keywords: In...

Reading Interests of Male

...psychologists alike believe that women are more emotional than men: Women are believed to experience and express most emotions more intensely and more frequently than men. (Barrett, Robin, Pietromonaco, & Eyssell, 1998). However an assumption could be formed about how men express emotional behaviors just like women. This research was done using the one topic that segregates men from women that is their choices. When it comes to choosing novels it is assumed in most cases that women prefer thrillers and romantic genre while men prefer more mystery genre but through my research I have come to conclusions with the fact that the novel choices of men are less emotional when compared to women but there are a few cases of exceptions. The purpose of this research paper was to find out whether females still read more emotional centered novels than males using survey techniques. Key Terms: Emotions, Gender, Novels This research was conducted for the purpose of understanding human behaviors and gender stereotypes within those behaviors. Emotions are an important aspect for humans to make judgments and choices (Huebner, Dwyer, & Hauser, 2009) hence my research will be based on the choices we make and whether gender plays a role in it or not. Objectives Primary Objective: * To find out whether there are male students who choose emotional novels as compared to females in Manipal University, Dubai. Also, whether females do not choose to read emotional novels regardless of the...

Multiple Intelligences

...Multiple Intelligence Howard Gardner created the theory of Multiple Intelligences in 1983. Gardner proposed that there were many different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability (McKethan, Robinowitz & Kernold, 2010). It’s a theory that was developed to document the fact that human beings have very different kinds of intellectual strengths and that these strengths are very, very important in how kids learn and how people represent things in their minds, and then how people use them in order to show what it is that they've understood (Video). The nine intelligences include Linguistic intelligence (verbal skills and talents related to sound, meanings, and rhythms)-the ability to express abstract concepts and ideas in words; Logical-mathematical intelligence (conceptual and logical thinking skills)-the ability to solve problems with logical, analytical, reasoning; this intelligence is measures by IQ tests; Musical intelligence (talents and abilities related to sound, rhythm, and pitch)-ability to express ideas through music; Spatial intelligence (skill in thinking in pictures and visioning abstractly)-the ability to form mental models of a spatial world and solve problems through their manipulation; Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence (skill in controlling body movements)-the ability to solve problems or express concepts using the whole parts of the body; Interpersonal intelligence (responsiveness to others)-the ability to...

Reoccuring Themes in the Works of Hemmingway

...,July 21st 2009 ENC 1102 M,W, 7:45am Term Paper “The Theme of Human Struggle in the Works of Ernest Hemingway” In my research paper I will show how elements of life and death, folklore/fables, myths, and rites of passage support the theme of human struggle against nature in the stories "The Old Man and the Sea," "Indian Camp," "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" and "The Snows of Kilimanjaro” by Ernest Hemingway. Through comparative analysis of these stories' underlying themes I will address the initiation experiences of his heroes. Human dignity, morality, and the formation of human individuality through mental strife and the struggle against nature are often themes of Hemingway. Humans cope with the complexity of the world by developing simple mental models based on opposite parts. Life and death are together, two extremes of one energy. Life is the active force and death is the inactive force, but they cannot be separated. Thus, they are two aspects of one reality. When people are reading about living beings and mythological beings or those who are dead, they view the word of the dead as a living world. The dead eat, sleep and move. In the book “The Hero in Hemingway's short stories”, J. DeFalco points out that: " in the Myth there are usually three dominant movements which are cyclic in pattern. They are the departure of the hero, the initiation, and the return from heroic adventure." (17). The movements of the hero to the world where...
