...the oppressive white world that he lives in. Instead of submitting to his anger, he uses it as fuel which encourages him to power forward into the mighty white city, where he uses the features of the world around him to distract him from his own hatred. Many of the features around McKay only remind him of the oppression that the city has caused and anger him further. The speaker conveys the fury and helplessness that he feels during this time of an oppressive and uncaring society. McKay bottles up his emotions and tries to ensure that no one knows how he feels...

...must prove every detail of your existence. No other person has been put through so much scrutiny and so much debate yet he still pushes forward. Knowing his purpose is much larger than himself. To hate someone for being a different color, race or gender is pretty much normal for this society. To deny someone the right to live, work or even worship in America is common, though some try to cover that fact up. Too many have been killed, hung, tortured and burned just because of being different or misunderstood. For this individual to have knowledge of history in America and to have felt the hate, he still wants to push on to complete the race to make a difference. Well, that is the kind of person he is. I am sure he knew the tremendous challenge set before him and the lack of support. Still each day, little by little, he kept attacking the problem and finding solutions to keep his promise. I hope to reintroduce and help you understand that this person has experienced hatred. He has seen the effects of hatred and has lived around it. He has overcome the negative impact that surrounds hatred only to use its negative power to succeed. As far back as 2009, when President Obama first assumed the role of the...

...other. The differences are what set us apart and make us unique. The problems we have with being different are that not all people accept it. This is where prejudice, hatred, and discrimination begin to affect people of different cultures and ethnicities. One group of people avoiding another group of people just because they look different or speak different is one of many reasons of discrimination. We live in a society where not everyone believes we are created equal and deserve equal rights. That bigger is always better and money is power. My grandpa used to always tell me there were two classes of people. One class were the (haves) and the other class were the (have nots). The class of (haves) has everything they need or ever wanted. The (have nots) have very little and struggle just to survive. Today that seems true by looking at what is happening in the world around us. There is a growing separation between the rich and poor. The numbers of people that live in poverty seem to be growing around the world. There are wars, global warming, and natural disasters happening in different parts of the world. We seem to be living in a fast changing world out of control. Our past has seen many horrible travesties against people. Some have struggled to have just basic rights that are given to everyone. Racism, hatred and discrimination are some reasons people in the past cannot get these basic rights. People have to be grateful for the people who fought to change this problem. The...

The people of North Korea were pushed down enough that they revolted against their government and formed a communist state while American simply viewed this as another country that had begun the process of falling to communism. The Korean War greatly enhanced the fear and hatred that the United States and the nations that had converted to communism felt for each other. The Korean War, although primarily only fought by the US, North and South Korea, Russia, and China, would have many political consequences around the world that...

...David Sewell July 19, 2015 The Confederate Flag On June 17, a man named Dylann Roof was part of a crime scene. He shot and killed nine black church members in Charleston, SC, and injured 3 more. This young man was a white supremacist who took action against what he thought were the enemy. He was a known white supremacist among his peers. He would go on rants about the shooting of Trayvon Martin and the Baltimore protests that occurred earlier this year. His rants stated that “blacks were taking over the world” and that he told planned to kill people. He had a lot of pictures with the confederate flag in them, and he stated his support of racial segregation in the United States. Roof also had a website that was registered to him. On this website he had pictures of himself posing in front of a confederate battle flag holding a handgun, along with “a nearly 2,500-word manifesto in which the author criticized blacks as being inferior while lamenting the cowardice of white flight” (Robles para 3). Dylann Roof used the confederate flag as a symbol for white supremacy. He used the image in multiple places, including his website and on his car's license plates. This usage of the confederate flag shows how it could easily be used in hate crimes, and it is known to be a popular image among white supremacist groups. Valley Forge flag Co. is a business that produces and sells flags. This company has a huge presence in the United States with 4 locations and 300 employees. “It's American...

...Ethnic Groups and Discrimination In the early years of America the Irish immigrant population in America were very much hated. As a result of this the Irish populations were subjected to many forms of discrimination. In order to understand the reason for the discrimination one must understand the reasoning for the hatred. It all started with what seems to be two basic factors that lead to the hatred. The population of America at this time was predominantly Protestant or non Catholic Europeans. The Irish were die hard Catholics that did not seem to agree with the religious views of the other Euro-Americans at this time. However the main reason for the hatred and discrimination of the Irish was due to their poor living conditions, and their willingness to work for low wages. (Immigration of the Irish) These low wages made it harder for the already established Protestants to continue to find jobs. Because of their willingness to work for low wages the Irish inadvertently put themselves into a situation where the upper class with all the power in society could create a dual labor market. This effetely put them in a position where they could be oppressed by forcing the Irish to stay in unskilled labor jobs with little pay. One such example of the oppressive jobs that the Irish we forced to work were the building of the nation’s canal and railroad systems. (Immigration of the Irish) The reason for this was that slavery of the black population early on was still...

...the unwritten bylaws of the samoan ways. My opinion upon life amongst myself and the people of Samoa, is that we are searching for greater and new meanings or purposes to our lives in America and forgetting the true reason why we are considered the HAPPY people of Polynesia & honestly, the Samoan people are farrrrrrr from happy. Hatred and darkness has been planted in many hearts, and so I considered the heart of Polynesia to be one COLD HEART. Born and raised in America, I've come to believe that my heritage is one unique and rich culture. Greatness has shined upon us in many ways. The respect of our older generations and our culture as one has been our number one flawless greatness, we have also given men and women to the most powerful military known to mankind on earth to fight for our rights and freedom that was given to us (we never earned any rights or freedom in America), many have succeeded in the National Football League, many have succeeded in the line of education, and the list can further move on but we cannont sit, stand, walk, run, jog, fly or even cry about what we deserve without shining our weaknesses. I've grown to learn the darkness of the Samoan people. The darkness of which I speak of is HATRED! Yes we, HATE, and when we HATE, we HATE! Samoans living in America, Samoa, Europe, New Zealand, or any other place that is named, will show you guaranteed, more than one face. We live in our precious society forgetting what made us. Many may say, oh...

...Take A Stand: War Samuel A. Olivas Grand Canyon University: CWV-301 June 13, 2015 Where would America be if brave men and women didn’t sacrifice themselves in the greatest wars known to date? This is a huge question a lot of people do not ask themselves. A debate resides today whether war is right or wrong. I take my stand for war. Freedom seems to have lost its importance among the citizens of the United States. Many individuals or groups look at war and only see death, but its what they don’t see that makes the biggest impact and that’s the purpose. A man or woman who has served their country gets ready for battle not for their family, but for the cause. The purpose of this paper is written to inform about major wars taken place in the bible, history, and currently. Firstly, I will explain how War in the bible relates to war in the past. Secondly, I will explain the history of two wars and their significance. Lastly, I will explain the war we currently are in and why it’s crucial that we never give up. A man just laid down his life for you, would you for someone else? WAR: THE BIBLE The Bible has many wars through the Old Testament; we must take a closer look at Egypt vs. Israel. In Egypt Pharaoh had the people of Israel under his control. The Israelites were beaten, whipped, and killed. They were put to work on the Egyptian city. This bondage was held for years until a man named Moses stepped in for God. Moses states in Exodus 5:1, “ let his people go”. In Egypt...

...and freedom. Moreover, these American foundational principles solely belongs to Anglo-Saxons and they hold the power to whom these values are granted to. Douglas claims that the Anglo-Saxons possessed rights to morality and freedom goes against the myth of the American dream where all individuals have access to these liberties that America was founded upon. This mindset of thinking is not just rooted in one generation, it was maintained by other generations by the lack of argument and not questioning the rights of freedom and morality belonging solely to Anglo-Saxons. The genetic requirement of whiteness to attain entry into American citizenship and the benefits of being considered part of America was not questioned by those who held power. America was founded on the concepts of individual thought and freedom, however, it was inevitably also founded on the mindset of whiteness. These concepts reinforced the exceptionalism of those in power, leaving no room to question the system. This concept of whiteness was eventually extended to new stock immigrants who could use their similar physical appearance to become a member of the social in group in America. Also, these new stock immigrants constructed their whiteness in opposition to blacks because "Blackness is constructed as sin... If God is on the side of whiteness, God is by implicating not simply white but Anglo-saxon. An Anglo-Saxon God is the only God that Anglo-Saxon exceptionalism can admit"(Douglas, 43). Anglo-Saxons have claimed...

...the minorities to protest for the equal rights living in a country. For example in America, the black Americans were hunted and lynched by the white Americans and it was celebrated as a sport. So in mid of 20th century, although the black Americans got their freedom, they still faced the color racism by the majority of America. Stereotyping against minorities through entertainment started at the start of the entertainment industry in the world. Unfortunately, stereotyping against the minorities through media was also recorded by the film’s historians. Considering the example of Joseph Goebbels, who was the propaganda general during World War 2 and he was considered to be the founder of the discrimination portrayed in his directed films. During Nazi Regime, there were many stereotyping against the Jews and this discrimination was proudly displayed by the Goebbels propaganda they specifically targeted the Jewish controlled organization and they were negatively portrayed in the entire film. However these stereotyping ended by the end of National Socialist Party but sadly the practice of stereotyping the minorities through film remained in the entertainment industry. During early 40’s, the stereotyping against minorities through media had become a common practice in several countries, especially in America. According to the author Edith J. Isaacs, a famous critique of the theatre and arts in America, stated this stereotyping of minorities in entertainment industries as: "Even today...

...New York Senator, Robert F. Kennedy, gave a speech to a group of mostly African American’s about the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. as he landed in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 4th 1968, the same night the prominent leader, Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed by a white man named James Earl Ray. Robert F. Kennedy was the first to inform the death of Dr. King to the crowd which gave him the opportunity to speak of the peace and the unity their leader followed hoping to settle the potential rioters and riots and tension that have been occurring throughout America as the devastating news spread. His message is compelling because he makes great use of connecting with his audience. O’Connor claims that Kennedy’s speech was immediately effective because there were no riots in Indianapolis compared to other Black cities in the nation and I feel like this is a valid point made. Although Kennedy’s speech was short, it was within an appropriate amount of time, given the fact that he didn’t have a lot of time to prepare the speech since he had also just recently heard the news about the death of Martin Luther King. He appeals to his audience with the use of...

This eventually led him to abandon his wife and son, the author suggest that his hatred towards them is the hatred towards himself and his origins. Armand is a character that is confused and angry with his past and finally realizes at the end that he is the very thing that he hates the most. In this critical essay, the author Leon Lewis illustrates an overview of Langston Hughes overall work and what he represents as a literary writer. ...Discrimination I am an African American. African Americans came to America in a few different ways. The majority of African American were captured from Africa and shipped over to the United States to be sold inside slave trade. Cotton was a big business in the United States and a lot of times land owners would have too much land for them to work so they would hire slaves to work the land for them. They didn’t pay the slaves money; instead they used fear to motivate the slaves to work as hard as possible. With this type of strategy going on African Americans quickly began to be seen as less than human and far less equal to the white men. Over time this began to grow into a dislike and hatred against African Americans who were living in America. Soon the north part of the United States began to change their views on African Americans and start to realize they that also should be counted as being equal people. The civil war broke out and African Americans eventually ended up gaining their freedom. After African Americans gained there freedom they still had a lot of complications that they needed to overcome. White people felt like they were much better than the African Americans so they began to have disgust towards African Americans. African Americans weren’t allowed to go to the same schools as white people, drink out of the same water fountains, and many other things. Groups were formed like the Ku Klux Klan that openly showed hatred for the African Americans and they often committed hate...
