...gain knowledge of how crime solving works and what kind of job duties each person has, when what is shown on television is not always reality. Take the shows Law and Order: SVU and Hawaii 5-0. These shows reveal the aspects of detectives’ everyday lives inside the job. They have a high tolerance for violence and depict an unrealistic representation of certain occupations. Methodology: Reading two essays, researching television media and genres, observing two shows and participating in a Roundtable Discussion on American Media Images (RDAMI) were the steps I took in putting together my ideas on television media. “Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie and “Where Have All the Parents Gone” by Barbara Dafoe Whitehead were the two essays I read for this paper. They develop ideas on what has an impact on American people and culture. I observed two episodes of two different television shows. Law and Order: SVU was one of the shows. Law and Order: SVU is a show about sexually based crimes, SVU meaning “Special Victims Unit”. “Friending Emily” and “Manhattan Vigil” were the two episodes with the main characters being senior detectives Olivia Benson and Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, detectives Nick Amara and Amanda Rollins, Sergeant John Munch and Captain Donald Cragen. Hawaii 5-0 was the other show I observed. Hawaii doesn't have its own state police force but the Governor has set up a special task force, which becomes known as "Five-0", to investigate serious crimes on the islands. “Popilikia”...

...crust. The opening through which the lava and tephra are emitted is called the volcanic vent. Lava is magma that reaches the Earth’s surface. Magma is melted rock at high pressure and temperature. Magma rises because it is initially less dense than the rock surrounding rock. It eventually equals the density of the surrounding rock and becomes a magma chamber. Tephra is pumice or ash that is blown into the air during eruptions. Volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates converge and diverge; but are usually not created where tectonic plates slide past one another. As a result volcanoes can be found in all sorts of climate locations. There are four primary types of volcanoes which all have varying effects on the environment. This paper will explore these various types of volcanoes and show how they differ, as well as giving examples of eruptions for each of the types discussed. Principle Types of Volcanoes Cinder cones: Cinder cones are built from particles and blobs of congealed lava ejected from a single vent; they are the simplest forms of volcanoes. Gas charged lava is violently blown into the air and breaks up into small fragments that solidify and fall as cinders around the vent to form a circular or oval cone. Most of these types of volcanoes have a bowl shaped crater at the summit and rarely rise more than a thousand feet or so above their surroundings. Lava flow can flow from a breach on the side of the crater or a vent from an outside flank. Lava...

...THE BROADWAY CAFE BRINGING IT TO THE 21ST CENTURY 1 THE BROADWAY CAFE BRINGING IT TO THE 21ST CENTURY 2 Abstract I just recently inherited my grandfather's coffee shop called the Broadway Café. In this paper we are going to examine how to bring it up to the 21st century. To get a better understanding of how to bring the coffee shop into the 21st-century; we are going to talk about the history of coffee and how it got started, and what life must have been like in the 1950’s. We are also going to talk about running today's coffee shops with today's technology. Wi-Fi allows us to access the Internet, check our bank accounts, and read electronic books & magazines. Another piece of technology we're going to talk about is a Point of Sale or POS unit, which is an electronic cash register. THE BROADWAY CAFE BRINGING IT TO THE 21ST CENTURY 3 History Coffee supposedly started in Constantinople, Turkey. According to the International Coffee Organization: “The global spread of coffee growing and drinking began in the Horn of Africa, where, according to legend, coffee trees originated in the Ethiopian province of Kaffa. It is recorded that the fruit of the plant, known as coffee cherries, was eaten by slaves taken from present day Sudan into Yemen and Arabia through the great port of its day, Mocha. Coffee was certainly being cultivated in Yemen by the 15th century and probably much earlier. In an attempt to prevent its cultivation elsewhere, the Arabs imposed...

...Child Care Policies around the World November 30, 2013 Human Growth and Development Multicultural Research Paper Child care policies differ around the world. Only four countries have no national law mandating paid time off for new parents. Liberia, Papua New Guinea, Switzerland, and the United States do not have laws. The United States does not have a policy of paid leave for child care however, each state has different requirements. Currently the United States falls well short of these practices. They do not require companies to provide any paid leave for new parents. Tennessee employers that have eight or more workers must grant female employees sixteen paid weeks leave for child birth. In California, Hawaii, and New Jersey employees who are pregnant receive partial wage replacement in the form of temporary disability insurance benefits for the weeks they are absent (HR specialty, 2013). European countries have the longest parental leave regulations in the world. In Czech Republic it is standard that mothers stay home for 3 years after a child’s birth. For this entire time, mothers are supported by the state. I can’t imagine getting paid to sit at home and take care of my child. Think of how lucky those parents are getting to see the children grow up doing all the first things in life. Sweden provides working parents with sixteen months paid leave per child at eighty percent pay rate (Karen, Sternheimer, 2010). Parents...

...Discussion and Conclusion Appendix: Images Bibliography Introduction In recent decades, one of the main arguments in relation to increasing transport demand and changing commuting pattern has focused on urban growth. Many existing studies have found strong evidence between land development and travel behaviors. Global urban sprawl has been accompanied by changes in individuals’ housing and employment locations, which in turn brings changes in commuting time, distance and destination. However, there are relatively few studies that explore the role of public transportation in this linkage. Revealing the form and function of public transit can explain existing transport commuting dilemma and argue for long-term management strategies. This paper therefore focuses on the role of public transportation in spatial development-travel behavior linkage and raises the following question: can...

...Where Are Nurses In the Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities? Assisted living facilities, one of the fastest growing housing options for older adults, represents a potentially new employment option for RN’s. When most people think of nursing homes, they think about nurses being responsible for the patients. However, most nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the United States do not have any RN’s employed. Most assisted living facilities have LPN’s, medical technicians, and certified nursing assistants. Why are there no nurses in nursing homes/ assisted living facilities? “Slightly fewer than 1 million people age 65 or older live in an estimated 33,000 assisted living facilities, private or shared units.”(Kovner) All assisted living facilities provide congregated meals, laundry and housekeeping services, and some social activities; all assisted living facilities provide health monitoring and assistance with activities of daily living (ADL’s). “Approximately 60% of residents need assistance with one to three ADLs; 75% need assistance with medications.”(Kovner) “Current estimates suggest that 50% of residents in assisted living have Alzheimer’s or Dementia, and the number is expected to grow.”(Kovner) Many assisted living facilities have a special locked down unit for residents with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. On average a nursing assistant will have 14-30 residents to tend to. This means making sure everyone is checked on every hour, changed, and making sure...

With this submission system students can make registration of their academic details, register their courses, view assignment available for submission, make assignment submission, request for a submission extension and finally view the assignment score for particular assignment. The lecturer can generate report, view the uploaded assignment submitted by student and view submitted extension request. The case study of this research work is the department of Mathematics, which is a department in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.
