Further, the paper dwelt on the importance of addressing this public health issues because it has an impact on the lives of the people at the community, state, and national levels. Providers believe that environmental and community factors contribute to unhealthy habits, less physical activity, which poses a major risk for chronic health conditions. The following are chronic health conditions: diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, high cholesterol, asthma, dyspnea and depression. These health consequences can lead to premature death and chronic health conditions, which reduces the quality of life. In the Atlanta area, obesity has increased over the past 10 years in which affects an individual life. Health care organizations have established health objectives to reduce the prevalence of obesity among individuals in America. Description of the target population Obesity occurs when there is an abnormal amount of fat (adipose tissue) accumulated around the body, caused when people eat in excess of their energy requirements (Lawrence, 2005). Defining obesity as the weight of the body which is excessive to healthy people and is the greatest public health challenge currently in the United States. The World Health Organization has stated that 2.8 million adults will die due to obesity in the world (World Health Organization, 2012). This paper will discuss the resourcefulness of Healthy People 2020 to fight obesity, discuss federal, state, and local agencies assigned with managing this problem, will discuss simulations to determine and analyze obesity, define the community, and describe the epidemiologic surveillance systems and tool for monitoring obesity. Obesity in America In the United States obesity amounts have accelerated to levels greater than before. In the United States one-third of all adults are categorized as overweight (Center of Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). The initiatives started in 2000 and were restructured in 2010 and 2020. The main points that will be discussed are identification of a specific issue and nationally identified health objective which will be obesity. Eighteen percent of children ages six to 19 years are obese as well and has become a major health concern (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Chronic diseases are also an issue with one in two adults having at least one chronic health condition (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). To reduce the obesity rates and chronic diseases for the future generation, promoting a healthy lifestyle from childhood years is highly recommended. This report reviews the importance of breastfeeding, Minnesota’s health themes for 2020, the different agencies and surveillance systems involved in addressing these issues, and the type of data used.
