...purpose of the research was to explain how being granted time to work out during duty hours would benefit the employee and the organization. I looked at the regulation that cover fitness in the Air Force and compared it to how my organizational actually conducts their fitness program. The research proved being physically fit greatly contributes to performance readiness levels. The Air Force currently has a fitness plan for their members however, it is not equally adhered to by all members. There are two reason why one, some Airmen just cannot break away from their job to exercise during duty. The other reason is not all squadrons grant the authorized 90 minutes during duty to exercise. Overall the Air Force does a good job when it comes to fitness, but there is room for improvement. Physical Fitness Leads to Increased Productivity at Work Leaders have many responsibilities. One of the most important responsibilities leaders have is keeping employees motivated while sustaining a high level of performance. This can be a challenge because motivational and hygiene factors vary from employee to employee. Organizations expect a high level of performance from employees to generate a net profit and provide good customer service. Senior management empowers first line supervisors and mid-level management to lead and motivate employees to get and sustain a level of high performance. When there is a drop in performance, leaders are expected to engage and diagnose...

...1992 S Oxford Dr Angelo, TX 76908 November 1 2013 Josh Wilson, Director Community Health Club 3336 W Loop 306 San Angelo, TX 76904 Dear Mr. Wilson: Introduction I have been a member of Community Health Club for over 6 months, and I have found that swimming laps every morning is a great way to not only stay in shape, but also a great way to reflect and focus for the day ahead. Unfortunately, in order to attain the peaceful experience every morning, I must arrive early enough to beat the rest of the members to the pool, or I risk sitting around waiting for a lane to open up. The issue not having a pool large enough to accommodate all of the members is not only a problem of member satisfaction, but also a financial issue. Fortunately, I have a proposal to build a full sized Olympic pool that can not only guarantee the satisfaction of the current members of Community Health Club, but also provide many new revenue opportunities. Background and Problem The current pool housed at Community Health Club is a 3-lane, 25-yard pool that is used for lap swimming, fitness classes, as well as free swim. With a pool this size, only one of these activities can be done at a particular time period. Not only does this create a scheduling issue while trying to find times for every activity for the different lifestyles of the members, but it also limits the number of classes or activities the club can offer. Add this problem to the fact that because the pool not large enough for...

...20th century the ideal, beautiful woman was 5’4 tall and about 140 pounds with a small mid-section; yet, for some if not most women, in order to achieve a small waist they would be put into a Victorian hourglass corset, which shrunk the woman’s waist to a much smaller size, we still see these tactics used by today’s women. This issue isn’t only occurring in the United States, it is a worldwide problem that continues to grow. The media uses the social elite, such as athletes and actresses, to advertise products and goods; the use of these models can have significant outcomes, both negative and positive, on individuals in our society. The positive being that viewers of these magazines that advertise skinny models and fit athletes may be influenced to change their lifestyle from unhealthy to healthy. The negative being that viewer’s want to take the quickest and easiest ways in order to achieve results, which can lead to dangerous side effects and habits. So the question is, is it even worth it to try to look perfect if dangerous methods have to be used? We see all over the world, individuals trying to look their best by working out consistently, dieting, or both. All of which are done with one goal in mind, too look good to yourself and everyone else. Most of time individuals don’t try to look perfect for themselves but also for society. We try to adjust the standards of beauty and fitness that are perceived in magazines and...

SHAPIRO ALISA ZALOSH StepSmart Fitness Introduction Ben Cooper opened his laptop and settled in for a weekend of work. It was Friday, September 7, 2012, ten weeks since he’d been unexpectedly promoted to district sales director for the New England region of StepSmart Fitness. On Monday, Cooper was to attend his first quarterly sales meeting with Caitlin Sheridan, the company’s newly appointed regional vice president of sales for the Northeast, and provide a detailed update on his ailing district. Cooper recalled his last conversation with Sheridan from ten days earlier: Ben, I know you’ve had a lot thrown at you these last few months as a result of the reorganization, with no help or information from your predecessor. I’m in the same boat here at the regional level. There’s been a lot of upheaval across the company since Mark Wallace became our CEO six months ago. Wallace hopes that we can improve our sales efforts in faltering districts and regions with high-performing talent like you in place; he is confident that sales revenue, morale, and productivity will soon improve. I was impressed by your success as a salesperson in New York, and enjoyed collaborating with you on the treadmill product last year. Despite your lack of managerial experience, I wanted you on my team because I felt you’d be able to quickly assess what’s wrong with the New England district...

The chocolate-making industry is mature and is characterised by a small number of wellestablished brands. In recent years, growth has been in Fairtrade and organic chocolate. A major challenge being faced by the industry is the increasing health consciousness of the Australian public. Material inputs like cocoa, sugar and milk represent about 38 per cent of...

...Introduction In September 27, 2013, on a routine United Airlines flight between Houston and Seattle, the captain of the flight suffered a heart attack mid-flight. The plane was carrying 161 passengers and six crewmembers. The co-pilot took control of the aircraft and landed the aircraft successfully in Boise, Idaho. The captain was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead the next day. He was 63 years of age. Incidents such has this are not uncommon, they occur quiet often across the aviation industry domestically and internationally. For instance, a Indian captain aged 43, operating for Qatar Airways suffered a similar heart attack mid-flight, three years prior to the United Airlines captain. The captain of Qatar Airways complained of chest pain mid-flight and a decision was made to land immediately. The captain died during decent, and medical reports suggested that he had died of a cardiac arrest (Editors, 2010). In the above incidents both the captains had a valid medical certificate and were declared fit to fly by their respective companies. According to the national heart, lung and blood institute, a heart attack occurs when the flow of oxygen-rich blood suddenly becomes restricted when flowing into a section of the heart muscle (Editors, 2013). This restriction is caused due to the build of plaque in the arteries of the heart. Patients with coronary heart diseases (CHD) are generally prone to heart attacks and one can only assume if either pilots were CHD candidates...

...Obesity is chronic condition where there is an abnormal accumulation of fat causing excess body weight which in turn is detrimental causing health issues and ultimately a lower life expectancy. The prevalence of obesity in Australia is 20.5%: 19.1% for males and 21.8% for females. The prevalence of being overweight but not obese was 39.1%: 48.2% for males and 30.2% for females. The number of overweight and obese adults increased from 4.6 million in 1989–90 to 5.4 million in 1995, 6.6 million in 2001 and 7.4 million in 2004–05. Approximately 25% of children are overweight or obese, up from an estimated 5% in the 1960s. (ABS, 2007) (Allman, AI. 2008) In Sydney, 57 per cent of people are overweight or obese, compared to 67 per cent in other areas. This figure is relatively low in comparison to other major cities such as Perth (72 %), South Australia (61.5%) and Victoria (68%). (Markey, A. & Watson, C, 2011). When looking at the population and demographics of obesity it is seen In 2007-08, higher proportions of males aged 18 years and over were overweight or obese (63%) than were females (48%). (ABS, 2007) When comparing age groups in general, rates of overweight/obesity are higher in older age groups, although males and females in the oldest age group (75 years and over) had lower rates. Adult male overweight/obesity rates are higher than female rates across all age groups. (ABS, 2007) In 2004-05, 62% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males and 58% of Aboriginal and...

According to World Health Organisation, WHO, Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure, (WHO, 2015). There are various concepts on health and wellbeing and remains a complex subject but according to Claude Bouchard, Health is a human condition with physical, psychological, social dimensions, each characterized on a continuum with positive and negative poles. Positive health is associated with capacity to enjoy life and withstand challenges; it is not merely the absence of disease. (Bouchard, 1990). Wellbeing is often described as a sense of good feeling and functioning well, this includes having a fair share of material recourses, influence and control, sense of meaning, belonging and connection with people and the capability to manage problems and change. (Wellbeingenterprises.org.uk, 2015) The human body has...

...emerge from the wellness industry in the next 3 to 5 years (Pilzer 2001). The Natural Mystic’s marketing plan seeks to generate revenue from a target market of primarily customers over fifty years old called the Baby Boomers. Through its wellness center, The Natural Mystic will provide unique solution – orient programs geared towards a market segment of serenity and holistic wellness seekers. Boomers represent the most progressive group in terms of making the connection between good health and appearance. As a result, Boomers represent the prime target for “beauty from within” messages. 75 % of Baby Boomers believe the best years are ahead of them. In this vein, they are looking for solutions that cater to concerns like lack of energy, physical health, memory and emotional health (Nolen 2011). It may seem that Boomers are only seeking an illusion of youth; youthfulness is being redefined to include any age as long as the person is toxin / disease free, emotionally and spiritually satisfied, and fit. Today, folks think about health and wellness much as they would a car or a house – it’s an asset, something whose value increases when you protect, maintain and enhance it (Nolen 2011). Through various...
