Unit 4: Development through the life stages
P4: Explain two theories of ageing
In this assignment I am going to explain the two theories of ageing I will be talking about the activity theory and the disengagement theory, saying the main points and then comparing them.
People age throughout their life; it’s not only adults who age ,teenagers age from when they were a baby to becoming a teenager ,also babies age from being a baby to becoming a child. Age does not begin at any particular age. For example when people say we age or your ageing, they don’t man it literally, they may mean that you are developing, or growing up.
Every life stage of an individual involves ageing. One of the theories that I am going to be talking about is the activity theory, which was created by Bromley in 1966; this theory is the opposite of the disengagement theory. Bromley believed that older adults would have to disengage but for them to also remain active to prevent disengagement from occurring he believed that older adults will age suitably if they take part in activities and live a more animated and lively lifestyle, which would prevent themselves from experiencing disengagement. According to Bromley he says that older adult’s excellence of life would get better however it depends on the older adult’s attitude, the activities that was carried out by the older adult and their interaction made with others. Bromley also added on to his theory that as long as older adults remain to be active they will be involved with the society.
Bromley also stated that older adults should have access to all types of services which will make them have a positive view point on life whilst they are involving themselves with the company of others. He also said that older adults should keep mentally and socially active, this is important for older adults to avoid

Explain How and Why Person Centred Values Must Influence All Aspects of Health and Social Care Work.

...and why person centred values must influence all aspects of health and social care work. Person centred values influence all aspects of health and social care work, for the reason that by law requirements in regards to the Human Rights Act 1998, Health and Social Care Act 2012, along with Codes of Practice for Social Care Workers, health and social care should be based on person centred values. In the interest of individuals who are receiving care, it enables them to be treated with respect and dignity, involving their own needs beliefs and identities, as well as to be supported to remain independent as much as possible. Person centred values also involve individuals to be supported to access their rights, as well as providing anti-discrimination practices together with promoting equal opportunities for individuals, and presenting choices and safety. Ultimately, it is all about diverse people who are involved in health and social care work, so therefore, the values that influences care must be person centred. 1.2 Evaluate the use of care plans in applying person centred values. For information regarding individuals such as patients/service users, a care plan otherwise known as a support plan is used as a vital source of document. Individuals who generally have a long-term condition require a care plan as it is an agreement involving themselves and their health care professionals. The document enables the health of an individual to be managed daily, involving what care they...

Sociology

...P2 Explain different sociological approaches to health and ill health There are different approaches to health and ill health in sociology, and these include Functionalism, Marxism, Feminism and Interactionism. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1974 defines positive health as a state of complete physical mental, social, spiritual and well-being not merely the absence of disease. The holistic approach is based on addressing the individual’s physical, social, emotional and spiritual health needs. The functionalist approach to health and ill health In the functionalist model, Parsons argued that illness is a form of deviance that disturbs the social function of a society; within the functionalist approach to health it studies the relationship between a sick individual and the society as a whole. Parsons stated that for the society to function efficiently the members of the society must be free from illness and must be of well health. Functionalists argued that stability and cooperation are very crucial for a society to function efficiently; functionalists explain that through the process of socialisation we learn our society’s general norms, values and social roles. An example of this is, saying “thank you or please” these are some of the values that are treasured within societies, and an example of a social role would be a grandmother fulfilling the role as a grandmother. For the grandmother to fulfil her role, the individual has to look after the grandchildren so...

Social Factors Affecting Healthh

...Course: Lecturer: Date: The social determinants of health are the living and the working conditions which influence people’s health. Therefore our health is also affected in part by the social and economic opportunities available to us. Discussed below are the identified social factors affecting health in our society. Stressful conditions making people to be anxious and worried damage ones health. Stressful circumstances make it hard to engage in physical activities or even practicing health eating habits since the body energy is focused on dealing with day to day challenges (Brunner & Marmot, 2006). Stress also leads to prolonged biological reactions which strains the physical body. Therefore, continuous stressing circumstances will result to weakening of the resistance to diseases of the body and interferes with the functioning of the hormonal and metabolic systems. According to Brunner & Marmot (2006), the improvement of health may only be achieved if living conditions are improved and therefore, focus must be placed on solving the source of the problems instead of dealing with the underlying symptoms. Another social factor affecting health is the distribution of income. This is because it is the level of incomes which shapes how people live. Low incomes results to social and material deprivation as the basic needs are a challenge to meet for the low income earners (Raphael, 2010). Food, clothing and shelter are the prerequisites of health and for the people with low...

...Unit 8 M2 and D1 M2- compare two approaches to health and social care. Chose two different approaches and compare each theory to a health care setting and also a social care setting explain how it works in health care compared to social care. Example of behaviourist in health and social care – classical conditioning can be used in a hospital to help with an individuals fear by creating a hierarchy of fears starting with their least fear to the most feared. Whereas in a social care setting such as a school or nursery a teacher can classical condition children into tidying up by using an instrument. However Operant condition may not work as efficiently due to an individual having a behavioural condition such as ADHD Example of social learning in health and social care- using role models in health and social care can help to influence an individuals behaviour such as in a health centre a celebrity can talk about health conditions and because they have a high status the public would be more influenced whereas in a school a individual would be able to use local initiatives such as change for life along with getting a celebrity chief in to talk about the importance of healthy eating. ...Information booklet: Unit 3 P2 Outline how legislation, policies and procedures relating to health and social Care influence health and Social Care settings Introduction: In this assignment, it is important to outline how legislation, policies and procedures relating to health and social Care influence health and Social Care settings. Definition of legislation: Legislation is a law or set of laws agreed by the government which must be followed and done. Definition of regulation: A principle, rule or law designed to control behavior. Food Safety Act (1990) The Food Safety Act was introduced in 1990 in response to public concern over the safety of food. This Act aims to control safety at all stages of food production. This legislation was also introduced in order to sell and keep food for sale which is unfit for people to eat. For example in a kitchen when staffs are placing foods in fridges and cupboards, they must ensure that the dates of the foods are up to date and checked properly. All food premises must be clean and free from rubbish, all equipment must be clean and good hygiene practices should be observed at all times. Under the Food Safety Act it is illegal to sell food unfit for human consumption. This means people may pass poor quality food off as good food to make money. The food safety Act 1990 influences health and social care settings so that Staffs check dates continuously on stocks to ensure that the foods are in good condition by checking that...
