In every country and culture there are people who suffer from hearing loss. Sometimes it is classified as conductive hearing loss where for some reason the sound waves are being blocked; which can usually be fixed with surgery. The majority of people who suffer from hearing loss have damage to the nerves that carry sounds to the brain. That is called sensorineural hearing loss; and there are new innovative ways to help those suffering from sensoineural hearing loss. Hearing aids were invented to help damaged nerves carry sound by amplifying the sound with a microphone. That only helps those who are hard of hearing; if you amplify sound to a deaf person they still cannot hear it. The cochlear implant however, does not amplify sound; it uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate cells in the cochlea that activate the auditory nerve. This process bypasses the damaged nerves that receive sound waves, which for the majority of the time are the cause of hearing loss. I have heard about cochlear implants for a while now and wondered about the difference in quality of hearing after surgery. The cochlear implant picks up sound and transmits it through electromagnetic pulses so is there a possibility that the sounds get distorted in the process. Since it is not the traditional method of hearing maybe the sounds are not the same either. The patient has to go through habilitation to get used to hearing and deciphering through noises to learn how to communicate but maybe the sounds they learn aren’t the same as the ones we are hearing. That is always something that I wondered about until I read about the piezoelectric hearing implant. This innovative implant uses the ear canal’s natural acoustics to pick up sound waves so the signals that are sent to the brain are the same as

...Running head: A Portfolio of International Business A Portfolio of International Business Kathaleen Hull International Business 662 Harding University Abstract Understanding how we learn as adults, what positive and courageous leadership looks like, international business defined and ventures in global business we are able to look at international business as a whole. All of these components affect how we do business beyond borders and give us an idea of what components are required as a professional in a vast growing global market. A Portfolio of International Business Defining International Business According to BusinessDictionary.com, international business can be summarized as the exchange of goods and services among individuals and businesses in multiple countries or a specific entity, such as a multinational corporation or international business company that engages in business among multiple countries. (BusinessDictionary.com) Knowing that the definition of International in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is defined as relating to two or more nations and that business in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is defined as a commercial or sometimes an industrial enterprise; I think Business Dictionary’s definition of international business is very accurate. (Merriam-Webster Online) When you think international business, the non-profit sector is probably not the first type of organization that comes to mind. Health Insurance

...Health Insurance- Blessing for people with busy life The word insurance truly mentions security. Security against life, health, family, vehicle, homes, shops, etc. In earlier years, there was no need to this kind of thing for the protection. I am talking about days of our grandfathers or may be even before that. The life was so great and slow, nothing to worry about any future, would involve in their daily occupational jobs like farming and living life in their own way. But it is said that nothing is permanent. The time has change now. Today we live in a much advance world. The change is faster than time. The daily routine got so much fix that we cant even take out some time to enjoy. People work in office as well as in home too. Social life is like getting extinct from their life. No time to eat even hygienic food on time. Just grabs some cafeteria served items and forget about its effects. As “no time” kind of thing ruling our life. We almost neglect our health and when any weird kind of stuff happens! Doctor is the second word that comes in our mind. First is the expense if the condition got severe. We can’t change this situation, neither can we escape from it. We have to work, look at our family and their future, about your dreams, and so to earn this, we have to get a job that offers salary far from your expectation but if salary is well then the work load will also be high. In fulfilling your daily task, you forget about your health! So it’s better to have an insurance...

Evolution of Computers

...CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION In the beginning of civilization, people used fingers and pebbles for computing purposes. In fact, the word 'digit us' in Latin actually means 'finger' and 'calculus' means 'pebble'. This gives a clue into the origin of early computing concepts. With the growth of civilization, the computing needs also grew. The need for a mechanism to perform lengthy calculations led to the invention of the first calculator and then the computers. The term 'computer' is derived from the word 'compute', which means to calculate. A computer is an electronic machine, devised for performing calculations and controlling operations that can be expressed either in logical or numerical terms. In simple words, a computer is an electronic device that performs mathematical and non-mathematical operations with the help of instructions to process the data to achieve desired results. Although the application domain of a computer depends totally on human creativity and imagination, it covers a huge area of applications including education, industries, government, medicine, scientific research, law and even music and arts. This chapter provides a detailed description of evolution, generations and characteristics of computers along with their classification and applications. CHAPTER 2: CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTERS Man developed computers so that it could perform intricate operations such as calculation and data processing or entertain him. Today, computers are everywhere—in...

La Singularidad

The last generation to be unaugmented. The last generation to be intellectually alone. The last generation to be limited by our bodies. We are the first. The first generation to be augmented. The first generation to be intellectually together. The first generation to be limited only by our imaginations. We stand both before and after, balancing on the razor edge of the Event Horizon of the Singularity. That this sublime juxtapositional tautology has gone unnoticed until now is itself remarkable. We're so exquisitely privileged to be living in this time, to be born right on the precipice of the greatest paradigm shift in human history, the only thing that approaches the importance of that reality is finding like minds that realize the same, and being able to make some connection with them.
