...an empowering and educational public health obesity prevention campaign that has been implemented in order to change attitudes surrounding nutrition, participation and exercise (Holwell, 2014). The public health program, Active8, is to be deployed in one Local Government Area (LGA) within NSW. The final two candidates in consideration to receive the obesity prevention program are Bankstown LGA and Hornsby LGA. The health and wellbeing of these LGA’s will be compared by assessing available public health data in order to decide in which LGA the Active8 program will be funded and implemented. Table 1 Estimated rate of overweight and obesity in people aged 18+ (2011-2013) Bankstown LGA Hornsby LGA No. Per 100 No. Per 100 Overweight (but not obese) 42,634 34.9 38,092 35.0 Obese 34,396 28.5 21,216 19.3 Note. Reprinted from “Social Health Atlas of Australia: NSW & ACT,” by PHIDU, Adelaide University, 2015, retrieved from: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/phidu/maps-data/graphs/ As can be seen in Table 1, there is almost no difference between the LGA’s in terms of being overweight, however there is a substantial difference in obesity rates, with Bankstown LGA having 13% higher rates than Hornsby LGA. While these statistics are important, they will not be enough on their own to support a decision to implement Active8. A wide range of health data will be further assessed, taking into consideration the influence of key health determinants such as urbanisation,...

...0911 Methods and Materials 2237 A Health Educator that commits : MY philosophy of health education Our health is very important. Without out good health we cannot function to our full potential. Good health promotion and education is very important to our societies. Health education is needed to teach the community about all aspects of their wellbeing. It helps to let people know what is good for them and what it not. Who is more prone to what disease and all the risk factors associated with it. Health education is all about promoting good eating habits and exercising on a regular basis. It informs people about how they could stay healthy and be strong. Health education can be hard to teach because different ethnicities can suffer from different diseases. It is important to make everyone feel equal but explain who and who is more likely to inherit what disease. For example diabetes (I & II) is more common among African Americans than other races. Health educators should always have a nice equilibrium between the learners and not make anyone feel put on the spot or uncomfortable. There are many roles of ethical concern that every health educator should address and make sure that the people they are teaching learn the correct information and up to date. Health educators should deliver accurate information without prejudice. Health educators should inform participants that total confidentiality will be adhered to their medical information will be not...

...problem is health literacy where patients do not understand the information that is given to them. Research Purpose The purpose of this formative study was to explore the implications of applying Nutbeam’s multidimensional health literacy framework to African American men’s understanding of Prostate Cancer information. (Corwin et al., 2009) Literature Review The literature review for this study included 25 year old African American men to 45 year old African American men in South Carolina. This study also included an experiment on how prostate cancer patients were involved in treatment decision making. This study the authors discuss the issue of health literacy. The article states that "in the context of the study, the problem is of greater concern since South Carolina ranks 49th of all the states in the number of ninth graders completing high school within 4 years" (Corwin 2009). The references for this article were current and ranged from 1957-2008, with majority of the references from the past 5 years. This article was published online on June 11, 2009 in the Journal of Community Health. Framework Corwin and colleagues uses D. Nutbeam's article "Health literacy as a public health goal: a challenge for contemporary health education and communication strategies into the 21st century", as a main source. According to Nutbeam the definition of health literacy is a composite term to describe a range of outcomes to health education and...

...programme in Gegharkunik, Armenia Results The assessment confirmed the population's poor health status and limited knowledge and application of recommended child care practices. The campaign reached its target: at follow-up, 67% had seen media messages within the past month, 82% had received the IMCI informational booklet, and 30% had seen other materials. Evidence of the success of the programme included the following: exclusive breastfeeding increased 31.4%, maternal knowledge of child illness signs increased 30%, knowledge of HIV increased 28.5%, and physician attended deliveries increased 15%. Conclusions This evaluation documented the significant and substantial impact of the community IMCI programme on both knowledge and practice in rural areas of Armenia. Consideration should be given to continuing and expanding this project as a complement to health sector development activities in this region. ...Las Vegas, NV 89163 Dear Mr. Post: I am writing this letter to express some concern about my community and hopefully some insight as to how we can fix the epidemic of health and issues in our local community. Health promotion programs often lack a clearly specified theoretical foundation or are based on narrowly conceived conceptual models. For example, lifestyle modification programs typically emphasize individually focused behavior change strategies, while neglecting the environmental underpinnings of health and illness (Stokols, 1994). The ecological approach focuses on the population-level and individual level determinants of health and intervention. It has also been said that a population can achieve long-term health improvements when people become involved in their community and work together to effect change (Hanson, 1998-89). After looking at the Kaiser Permanente Community Health Initiative video it opened up my eyes. The video showed how certain communities are using a technology called Photovoice. It helps different members of the community show others what is happening there with hopefulness that it will get the messages reached out to others. It really helps by showing the legislatures and congressmen in their area what is going on in the communities around them. It’s a great tool that can promote safety and awareness. I really loved the fact that there are people out there that really want to help the communities where they live and how working together...

...should report suspicions to the principal and social worker, doctor, nurse, police so proper investigation can be done. »The teacher should never confront parents themselves, this could: •anger the parents •destroy the teacher-parent relationship •increase the abuse »Several critical things the teacher should provide so they develop a sense of wellbeing to progress beyond abuse. •Trust •Predictable routines •Consistent behaviour •Safe boundaries •Confidence •Good communication 2] According to Reddy and Tobias (1994:20), the term "Health Education" and "Health Promotion" are confused with one another. Provide a clear distinction between these 2 terms. Health Education is the "deliberate structuring of planned learning opportunities about health which are aimed at voluntary changes in health-related behaviours to give individuals the opportunity of achieving a more favourable position on the health continuum." ...inactivity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, and frequent alcohol consumption, are driving up the prevalence of chronic disease, such as diabetes, heart disease, and chronic conditions. Furthermore, these diseases were thought to be the problems that occurred in old age in the life cycle o fan individual thus resulting is low productivity and reduced performance at work. There is a rising concern over the health care coverage and the impact of this sedentary lifestyle on an individual’s health, organizations have adopted and are promoting employee wellness programs in the organizations. These are programs that encourage a particular diet, reducing stress levels and promoting work life balance among the employees. Employee wellness or Health promotion is related to disease prevention which aims at fostering better health through behaviour and lifestyle change at work. ...different approaches to health education. There are many different ways in which you can approach health education. Here are three that are used Social Marketing, Medical and Community development approach. Social Marketing Is widely use to influence health behaviour by using a range of health communication strategies based on a mass media. Social marketing uses marketing methods and places like clinics to get their messages across. Social marketing targets a large group of people, by spreading their messages around and not just keeping them local. Social marketing aim at a certain target audience and they do all their research and campaigns around them. However they try to get as many people to look and understand their messages. Although they don’t just use a communication approach. Their main approach is to change peoples behaviour. This approach can last for a long time and some last for years the change for life campaign has got a 3 year plan based on this approach. ...2015 The modification of health behaviors is facilitated by health education specialists. The World Health Organization (1998, P.4) defined health education as “comprising consciously constructed opportunities for learning involving some form of communication designed to improve health literacy, including improving knowledge, and developing life skills which are conducive to individual and community health.”. Most simply, health education helps to inform the public about behaviors that are healthy and unhealthy. Many individuals that are concerned about their health and the health of their families usually adjust their behavior in accordance with any new information (Schneider, 2011). For example, the surgeon general’s report of 1964 which stated that smoking caused cancer and other life threatening diseases, had significant impact on the prevalence of smoking in the United States. The health education specialists role in the United States today has evolved over time based on the need to enhance health and provide educational intervention. The earliest signs of the roles and responsibilities of the health education specialist started in the mid 1800s with education in school hygiene, which was closely associated with physical activity. But by the early 1900s the need for health education began to spread to the public, but it was the social workers, journalists, visiting nurses and caregivers that were doing the educating not the health educators as we know them today...

...Childhood Obesity: School Prevention Children in the United States are getting heavier and heavier. As a result, schools are essential towards finding a solution in the obesity epidemic. Through solid norms and school programs such as proper nutrition standards, quality health education, quality physical education, and opportunities to do physical activity, schools can help students to adopt and maintain healthy physical and nutritional behavior. All around the country, obesity has become a great problem that affects children and adults of all races and income levels. In particular, childhood obesity is becoming a more alarming situation to address because it creates physical problems and affects mental health. The essential cause of the increase in their weight is straightforward: an excess of unhealthy eating choices compared with their physical activity. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, “An estimated 61 percent of overweight young people have at least one additional risk factor for heart disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure” (National Association of State Boards Education NASBE). Consequently, social and psychological problems can emerge such as discrimination and poor self-esteem. In addition, children and young adolescents who are obese are more likely to become obese when they grow older. It is known by most people that it is fundamental to have good eating behaviors and do physical activity in order to maintain a healthy weight...

...Pass 4- Plan out a research Why did I chose to do a questionnaire? During my studies of health and social care I have looked at the impact on people's health and attitudes on the correct health choices. I have seen how public health promote healthy lifestyles and help the population to make the correct health choices to better their own lives. On the other hand, there is a down side as even though public health promotes healthy lifestyles, millions if pounds are wasted as things like diabetes, obesity and heart related illnesses are increasing Daily. This shows that not everyone in the population are choosing to live healthy lifestyles, they are choosing to live unhealthy and damaging their bodies (which may be without them knowing). The research that I will be caring out as a group is to see if people do know about their own living standards and if they are generally healthy. This will then give me a brief understanding if people are choosing to ignore the information that it is provided. In my questionnaire, I am aiming to find out what people think a healthy lifestyle is and if they personally think that they are healthy. This will the help me to get a range of statistics to see if people are prone to unhealthy lifestyles. I am choosing patio give my questionnaire to late teens in a sixth form college that I attend. I am going to give the questionnaire to a group of thirty students with different ages, sexual orientations, gender, religious beliefs and values...

...Identify and describe each of the seven Areas of Responsibility of a Health Education Specialist. Discuss the importance of each area of responsibility and provide examples of each. Responsibility I: Assess Needs, Assets, and Capacity for Health Education: With this responsibility one must assess the need for the population surrounding them. This will help to solve the problems for the individual or group. This will help stakeholders to gather data, analyze the data in order to know what areas needs to be focused on. When the stakeholders get the data together they then can proceed with developing a plan with the information collected. When gathering information one looks at the area and population that is covered, how many people are infected, age group that is affected. Responsibility II: Plan Health Education: When planning involve more than finding a location its about how good written and oral skills one has. One must be competent in developing goals on which the foundation will established for the program that is meant for. It is an importance in finding the right stakeholders for the job in order to support each other and help to develop a program together. Responsibility III: Implement Health Education: In this stage it is important to develop a program and putting it together.
