...Values and Spiritual beliefs Beliefs and values are principles, standards or qualities that an individual or groups of people hold in high regard (Federico, 2009). My values and beliefs have been influenced by interacting with people, the environment and any other related real life experiences that contribute to decision making. I originated from Nairobi, Kenya and was raised in a middle class conservative Christian household. All my life has focused on respect for my culture, language, good health, good work ethics, professionalism, reliability, optimism, respect for all humans, respect for laws, religion, education, friendships and keeping up with major life events like graduation, birthdays, baby showers and weddings. As Christian I believe in God and the existence of Christianity which has been a source of my strength all my life. In our younger years, all the family members were encouraged to participate in church activities which I still believe is important to my lifestyle and has given me confidence and believe that I am who I am today because of God. As nurses, the beliefs we have developed may be related to the stereotypes that we have formed around issues like sexuality, abortion, alcohol, marriage, ageing and disability, health care policy and other people’s rights (Federico, 2009). As healthcare workers our duty is to provide services that meet or target group and help them feel empowered without being judgmental thus avoiding imposing our values and beliefs...

...Economics and Policy for Health Professionals Katrina Hill Health Policy and Economics Dr. Shana Lavarreda September 7, 2014 Discipline of Health Economics Many years ago healthcare and its delivery system were limited in care for patients or treatment options for physicians. The procedure of care includes diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and palliative care (Buchbinder, 2012). However, over the years there is much to be learned from the discipline of health economics which vary from studies, practices, and demand by discipline of health promotion. Unfortunately, health promotion has not always gotten the attention by health economists because contributing factors lack demand, scare resources, and unclear utility analysis of health care (Teiltelbaum & Wilensky, 2013). As with any given system, values contribute to decision making route in which delivers thoughtful insight into how health operates from a planned and funded context to address an extensive scope of matters in a clear systematic manner. ...Health Policy Values Morgan Spencer Grand Canyon University: NUR-508 Dr. Jamie Buchanan June 15, 2015 Health Policy Values Beliefs and Values Beliefs and values are two things in which people develop when they are going up and are engraved in them however, there is a difference. Beliefs are what we believe to be true and values are a person's principles or standards of behavior. My values and beliefs have stemmed from my upbringing and also from my personal experiences as a nurse and a young woman. As a young child my values and what was expected of myself were engraved into me. The first concept that was engraved into myself was a hard work ethic which stemmed from my grandfathers. My grandfathers were the bread winner of their families and taught myself the importance of integrity, honesty, and hard work. My beliefs came from knowing God, understanding His Word and knowing what he expects of myself. Health Care Policy Due to my values and beliefs I can easily get frustrated when talking about health care policy in respects to cost and quality. Health care costs have easily risen since I started working as a nurse four years ago. However, things are getting more expensive that the economy cannot keep up at this time. Technology and the advances in health care are beneficial to all and for the greater good which can improve the quality of life. However, are these advances going to cost more? Yes. Should we not develop them due to cost of them? Absolutely not. Unfortunately...

...between the policy owner and the insurer, where the insurer agrees to pay a sum of money upon the occurrence of the insured individual’s or individual’s death. It is the risk pooling plan and economic device through which the risk of premature death is transferred from the individual to a group In return the policy owner or policy payer agrees to pay a stipulated amount called a premium at regular intervals or in lump sums (so-called “paid up” insurance). A life insurance contract is intended to meet the needs of survivors or beneficiaries, when the investor dies. From the life insurance contract, the beneficiaries receive a sum of money that far exceeds the value of the premiums the investor had paid. The beneficiaries, of course, receive this benefit if the person insured dies during the contract period. The contract of life insurance is different from other types of insurance in the following respects. The event insurer against is an eventual certainty i.e. nobody lives forever. It is not the possibility of death that is insured against; rather, it’s the untimely death. The risk is not whether the insured person is going to die but when. The risk increases as the individual ages or grows older because chances of death are greater in later years than in initial years. There is no possibility of partial loss in life as in the case of property and liability insurance. Therefore, if a loss occurs under life assurance, the insurer will have to pay the face value of the policy...

...within many areas (e.g., disability and handicap), conceptual issues and ethical issues about proper conduct and underlying values are highly intergrated. The treatment of ethical and policy issues depends on the content of the concepts employed and, at the same time, many central concepts are informed by moral opinions and, as a result, contested on ethical grounds. Taking this intergration of conceptual and ethical issues seriously from a research point of view requires that they are very strongly interconnected, i.e. mere studies of the way in which concepts are in fact informed by moral opinions and social values is not siffucient. Outright normative analyses of underlying ethical views need to underpin suggestions with regard to the way in which central concepts should be employed in policy contexts. This has been recognised in research on the basic ethical issue of what should be seen as the basic determinant of the quality of life or well-being (Brülde 1998, 2006), as well as research on applied ethics of relevance for disability (Brülde 2003; Munthe 1996, 1999; Juth 2005; Juth & Munthe 2006), and concepts such as happiness, health, illness, and mental disorder (Brülde 2000, 2006a, 2006b). Research on several of the conceptual issues has demonstrated how they are strongly connected to ethical problems related to health care policies and public health practices, in particular issues about what are the appropriate goals of medicine as a whole, or parts thereof, e.g. the...

...investments in health research OECD Blue Sky II Forum, September 25, 2006 Alan Bernstein, Vern Hicks, Peggy Borbey, Terry Campbell Abstract This paper describes the approach taken by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to develop a framework and indicators to measure the impact of health research. The development process included national and international consultations. Key methodology challenges and measurement requirements were identified. The framework that has resulted from this process includes definitions of key concepts, methodology guidelines, identification of the different stakeholders for impact information and the individual concerns of each stakeholder group. Indicators are classified within five categories that encompass a broad range of impacts. Sources of information and issues in attributing research impacts are discussed. An analysis of issues suggests that impact measurement and performance measurement are complementary activities, with the former focused on broad impacts of the health research sector and the latter on the degree of success achieved by funding agencies in contributing to the process of knowledge development and uptake. Introduction Accountability and value received for the use of public funds have become high priorities for governments around the world. Quantifying the value of publicly funded health research is a challenge for many countries. This paper describes the approach taken by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)...

...or individual. Property and casualty insurance is insurance that protects against property losses to one’s business, home or car and against legal liability that may result from injury or damage to the property of others. This type of insurance can protect a person or a business with an interest in the insured physical property against losses. Auto Insurance policies typically cover you and your spouse, relatives who live in your home and other licensed drivers to whom you give permission to drive your car. The policy provides coverage for both bodily injury and property damage liability as well as physical damage to your vehicle. Auto insurance typically covers personal injury, medical payments, uninsured motorist, underinsured motorist, auto rental, emergency road assistance and other damages to your car not caused by a collision such as flood, fire and vandalism. The other insurance is homeowners’ insurance which is bought to protect the biggest assets one has. Homeowners insurance typically covers the actual house, personal property and contents within that house, and some forms of personal liability. The policy may cover direct and significant loss...
