Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the body and it gives the body what it needs to be physically active and for the body organs to function. It is important to have carbohydrates in your diet. The body can produce energy from proteins and fats, but those processes require the addition of energy plus water in order to convert them into glucose. Carbohydrates are like energy that has been pre-packed, and the body just need to open up the package and the energy would just pour out. Carbohydrates come from foods that we eat and it comes from plants. There are two types of carbohydrates simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. Determining which one is which depends on the chemical structure and how fast the sugar is digested and absorbed. Another name for simple carbohydrates is called simple sugars and is chemically made of one or two sugars, for example: the sugar that is in your bowl, candy, syrups, and sodas are simple carbohydrates, also foods like fruit and milk are simple carbohydrates, but they are considered better sources of simple carbohydrates because they also contain vitamins and fiber, which is important nutrients that your body needs, such as calcium (2010). Complex carbohydrates are known as starches and are made of three or more linked sugars. Grains such as bread, pasta, oatmeal and rice are complex carbs, as well as some vegetables like broccoli, corn legumes, such as kidney beans and chick peas. They take the longest to digest.

When sugars first enter the body they are broken down into simple sugars so they can be used in the body. Once the breakdown has started, the sugar goes through the stomach and all of the food is digested. Digestion breaks down substances into molecules small enough to go through the stomach lining into the bloodstream. Sugar is one of the substances that goes into the bloodstream and is sent to cells

...Healthcare Administration Career I chose to my research project on the title above because the field that I want to go into and stay in is the medical field, without performing the clinical aspect of the job (Nurse, LVN, and Medical Assistant). Health care administrators have wide-ranging influence within the world of medicine. The leadership that these professionals provide sets the future course not only for the facilities they manage but also for the health care system as a whole. The educational requirements are as followed: A bachelor’s degree (four years) is the typical entry-level preparation needed for health care administration jobs. Some employers, however, will promote from within or hire other professionals with related experience (ex. Nurses) who are ideal for an administrative role due to their direct health care knowledge. This means attaining a MBA, or a different type of master’s degree, or a doctorate in health administration is required for high- level executive positions. Subspecialties are often available, especially in graduate programs. These include long-term care administration, health care services, or health information management. Prospective health care administrators should look for educational programs accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. An accredited program has successfully gone through a process that ensures responsibility and a commitment to quality progress. Training: Some educational programs...

I will explain why I feel compelled to work in the healthcare field and how the administration portion of healthcare affords me the opportunity to have a broader influence on the overall picture. There are so many things that can be accomplished from an administrative perspective that greatly impact the patient care experience starting from bedside care all the way to organizational policy and procedure development. For me, this is a very rewarding career both professionally and spiritually. Hospital Administration and its Role in Healthcare When I first started out in healthcare almost 20 years ago, I always knew I wanted to do something on a much grander scale than just bedside nursing. Dr. Pace (2006, p. 3) discussed early in his books, the importance of choosing a career that is both interesting and challenging and also has the ability to provide you with financial security. The healthcare field has always offered job security because the demand for people with medical training will always be high because as long as people are living and getting sick, they will need healthcare providers. The healthcare field itself is continually growing to meet...

...Changing legislation is another macro-trend that is sure to affect the US healthcare system especially concerning the ACA and the uncertainty of the act. According to CNBC reporter, Dan Mangan, repeal of the legislation is likely if a Republican president is elected but banishing the act completely is not likely (CNBC.com). Furthermore, law makers are proposing to change mandates within the act through government regulation as opposed to creating new legislation. Regulation is easier and less votes are needed. If the ACA becomes regulated, there is a possibility for a rise in employer-sponsored plans. Since the ACA legislation passed, there has been a drop in the enrollment in employer-sponsored plans because offering insurance to employees became expensive for companies due to the ban on rationing of care, specifically through pre-existing conditions. Some Republicans are proposing plans to do away with this provision that bars insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions or charging more money (CNBC.com). With the pending uncertainty of the ACA, there are a few demographic groups that will be affected should the ACA go under major repeal or regulation. One group being those individuals that are were previously uninsured and underinsured which caused access to care issues. Prior to 2009, those that were uninsured were unable to gain access to care due to the rising costs of care, treatments and prescriptions which resulted in those individuals either not receiving...

...Discussion Questions: 1. Explain what a SWOT analysis is and summarize the purpose of conducting a SWOT analysis. A SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis is a specific, structured planning method used to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats involved in a project or plan. A SWOT analysis “aims to identify the internal strengths and weaknesses of an organization, along with external market opportunities and threats” (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2012). SWOT is a basic, straightforward model that assesses what an organization can and cannot do as well as its competitors and also shows potential opportunities and threats to the ideas being considered. The way SWOT analysis works is to take the information gathered and separate it into internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external issues (opportunities and threats). Once this is completed, SWOT analysis determines what may assist in accomplishing the desired objectives, and what obstacles must be minimized to achieve favorable results (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2012). Users of SWOT analysis need to ask and answer questions which will give useful and meaningful information for each category to make the analysis useful and find the potential advantages and weaknesses. A SWOT analysis is an integral part of any planning process because it provides a good all-around view of the current situation as well as the considerations of future obstacles or issues. At the planning stage preceding...

Technology and Healthcare Administration

...Technology and Healthcare Administration Warren Thomas Kaplan University HS290-01 Technology and Healthcare Administration As technology continues to improve and become more cost effective, how providers store and access their patient’s medical records has evolved. Many providers now opt for electronic records. Some providers enter information directly into their systems, having a computer station in each exam room. Other providers will hand write on paper forms and will have them coded later. This can sometimes cause delays in the update of the medical records. Each record keeping system has its own benefits and issues unique to it. For electronic records, the first benefit is a reduction of cost in record keeping. While there is an initial cost of implementing an electronic filing system, the cost of these systems will be less in the long run. Less time will be required to manage, file, and maintain the records. This time savings can allow doctors to see more patients and can even reduce the number of employees required to run a clinic. There is, however, a learning curve when using electronic records. Not only will the entire staff need to be trained when a new system is emplaced, new employees who may be veterans of the healthcare fields will need training. Even someone experienced with electronic records may have to learn a new system when changing job. Adding to the cost savings, storage space will also be reduced. Since healthcare providers are required...

The Key to Success

...The Key to Success The most disturbing time in my past was when I believed that I was entitled to the American dream — the president, my employer, and the government is responsible for filling my life with continuous happiness, an exciting career, loads of family time, and positive personal relationships simply because I exist. Throughout the years of growth, I discovered the truth and the most important lesson I have revealed in my lifetime. I learned that there is only one person responsible for the quality of the life I live. That person is me. If I want to be successful, I have to take 100% responsibility for all the failures and successes that I experience in my life. This includes the level of my achievements, the results I produce, the quality of my relationships, my health and physical wellness, my finances, my debts, my feelings — everything! However, we all know that this is not easy. In fact, most of us have been conditioned to blame something outside of ourselves for the parts of our life we don't understand. We blame our parents, our spouse, our friends, the media, our bosses, the weather, the economy, our astrological sign, our lack of money; anyone or anything we can pin the blame on. We never want to look at where the real problem is — ourselves. During my transition, I was reading and listening to books from motivational speakers such as Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar and Les Brown. I also took up Vinyasa Yoga simply because it was something outside of my comfort...

Although patient healthcare has always been important, I feel that the degree field of Health Services Administration Management is so important in today’s society because of the world of automation and the continued development of technology. I am pursuing a degree in Health Services Administration Management because with my caring heart, I feel as though I would be able ensure that the patient and their family are happy and feel as if their needs are being met. I started in the health care profession because of my passion for caring for others and I feel as though this passion has led me to pursue a degree in Health Services Administration.
