...Problem Solution for Best Snacks MMPBL 550 Best Snacks Problem Solution Stephanie Vickers MMPBL/550 March 23, 2012 Best Snacks Problem Solution For the past 100 years, Best Snacks, Inc. has been in the top two leading positions in the snack industry, making them an ideal investment for stockholders. Recently, in the last couple of years Best Snacks sales have declined, resulting in decreased stock prices, market share, and in second place in the industry. Contributing to these issues in the company is the lack of strong leadership, capable managers, and innovative work environment. Employee morale has suffered because staff does not feel encouraged to be creative or that their opinions are valued. By benchmarking other companies, Best Snacks can determine which strategies they can implement to continue their previous successful history. Best Snacks has the opportunity to reorganize their structure to promote innovative ideas, improve management skills, and realign the vision with a new organizational culture. There have been no product or service innovations in the past 5 years; instead, previously successful marketing methods have been improved or extended. For example, the most recent product information had new package sizes. Best snacks needs to remain competitive and an industry leader by researching, analyzing, and surveying today’s consumers in order to develop new...

...GoGo squeeZ Applesauce On The Go By: Callan Buck Kristin Clark Melissa Etter Aimee Lindamood Alex Reynolds “It was love at first squeeZ” Secondary Research: INDUSTRY When exploring current trends in the food industry, some observations become clear: the population wants food that is natural and free of artificial ingredients, not only for their children but also themselves, and most importantly they want it while they are on the go. Researchers at the SIAL conference in 2009 concluded that manufacturers are constantly finding innovative ways to include natural, healthy ingredients in their products, with “all-natural” foods becoming a major consumer demand. But is this costly, natural approach impacting consumer-purchasing habits? NERAC Research Firm states that even with economic struggles, “consumers still want a convenient, quick, fresh, healthy, tasty and sophisticated food experience” (Nerac). Interestingly enough, consumers will spend the buck for a healthier eating experience, allowing manufacturers to gain more capital in exchange for fewer ingredients used. In addition, it is apparent that manufacturers are taking advantage of the consumer habit of eating away from home. According to retail-merchandiser.com, consumers are more interested in snacking to get their daily nutrition, and eating fewer full meals. To achieve this on-the-go lifestyle, parents are turning to convenient food pouches. Neil Grimmer, a pioneer of food pouches for toddlers, calls...

...SNACKS TO GO (CASE 11) 1. Sathers’ company objective was to be one of the first companies to produce a healthy zip lock package filled with nuts and natural snacks. The objective was to tap into the market of people who led busy lives and wanted to eat a snack in a package that was resealable to enjoy at a later time. Since the Sathers’ nuts and snacks weren’t as well-known as their candy, they were able to build stronger brand awareness that was introduced through their Snacks to Go line. 2. In developing Snacks To Go, Sathers’ product conducted a market development strategy. His product, which was ultimately selling healthy snacks, was already in place but he was selling to different kind of customer. The customer he was selling to was the one on the go. With his innovative zip lock resealable bag it appealed to a new market, which would put this snacks to go in the Market development. It can also be used as a penetration to the existing customers who previously enjoyed nuts but now can enjoy the convenience of the snacks in a busy setting. 3. Their study revealed, “that most consumers who preferred resealable packaging would switch brands and pay more for the food protection, convenience, and freshness that resealable packaging offered.” In their case, over half of the their respondents preferred nuts in a resealable packaging, and for those who ate nuts more often, most “believed that it was important to preserve the freshness of the food, to keep it from drying...

...throughout the United States. Kids all over the nation are overweight and it is due to many different reasons. One reason is the foods served in grade schools, mainly the vending machines, are unhealthy choices. Of course the health issue starts at home but kids are also in school 40 hours a week so the food served there is a big impact on their lives. Providing nothing fresh, organic or healthy in the vending machines is not a good thing even if healthy choices are provided in the cafeteria. “A recent study of over 2,300 kids ranging from 1st to 12th grade showed that 22% ate foods that were not part of the school lunch program” (Paul & Robinson, 2013). With physical education being taken out of the mandatory curriculums for students, serving healthy foods should be a top priority. Schools need to start placing fresher, healthier snack choices in the vending machines. Vending machines are usually filled with junk foods. Instead of going to eat in the cafeteria a child might just use a dollar and go buy a quick snack. Some might say to get rid of vending machines all together. On a survey site known as debate.org the question is asked, “Should schools have vending machines?” 71% of people responded yes for numerous of reasons. One being that it’s a great way to help schools raise money. “Schools can earn anywhere from 25-30% of commission off of vending machines ("Vending machines in," 2011). That money is then use to fund art programs and so on. So getting rid of vending...

...To set up portable juice bars on school campuses, offering healthy fruit and vegetable drinks, along with some healthy snacks. These juice bars would not sell commercially packaged fruit drinks because these contain a high amount of sugar. Instead, they will offer freshly squeezed juices. Freshly squeezed juices are healthy for the body and contain a lot of the essential vitamins and minerals that the body requires. " Fresh juices are a tremendous source of enzymes. In fact, the freshness of juice is one of their key features since enzymes are destroyed by heat. When fruits and vegetables are juiced raw the enzymes are still viable when you drink the juice. Another benefit of drinking fresh juices is that your body can absorb more of the vitamins and minerals than if you were to eat the fruits whole! Many of the nutrients are trapped in the fiber and by juicing fruits; you break down the fiber and release the vital nutrients." (Soyquick) It is very important that students learn about the benefits of a healthy life style at a young age. The habits that a student learns early in life will remain with them throughout their life. A healthy juice and snack bar would be an excellent way to encourage students into getting into the habit of healthy eating and healthy drinking. Besides having fresh squeezed juice at the juice and snack bar, there would also be a wide variety of healthy snacks to choose from. The snacks will include fresh fruits such as bananas, apples, mangos, grapes...

...This marshmallow and fruit dessert has 45 grams of sugar and 55 grams of carbs, which increasingly adds an overage of unnecessary ingredients. Not to mention after lunch students have free will to purchase extra food items from the snack cart. These snacks, still regulated by the government, are also high in sugar and other unhealthy ingredients. Then, after lunch kids rush to PE to exercise for 90 minutes. Although the PE programs are strong in developing workout habits, they lack the ability to educate kids on lifelong eating habits when it comes to choosing and recognizing the right types of food. This lack of education about healthy options has only increased the problem. Unwelcomed school lunches have a long lasting effect on kids and originate from various places. However, the main cause of this disregard for school lunches is the lunch program is separately funded from the school. DeDe Wagner, the ________ at Central DeWitt says all the income they receive to purchase new products comes from the kids themselves, not the school. Because of this small budget and lack of school funds, the department is limited to what food they present. There...

The marketing plan operates at two levels: Strategic marketing plan: - This plan lays out the target markets and the values propositions the firm will offer, based on an analysis of the best market opportunities. Despite the advent of modern, large capacity and automatic biscuit making plants, large section of people especially in semi-urban and rural areas still prefer fresh biscuits from local bakery as they are cheap and offer many varieties. ...Background summary: Kellogg Company is a manufacturer of cereal and convenience foods, such as cereal bars, fruit-flavored snacks, frozen waffles, cookies, and crackers. Kellogg manufactures its products in 17 countries and sells its products in over a hundred countries. The sales of core products, like cereal, has declined over time in major markets like the United States and Europe. Cereal was a convenient food for breakfast, but now consumers do not have time to “sit down with a bowl, milk, and spoon.” Snacks have become a core product for the company. Kellogg acquired Pringles to expand its market share in international snacks. Kellogg’s investors were pleased with the acquisition. Mr. Bryant paid for Pringles acquisition at a high price of $2.7 billion versus $950 million of Diamond’s deal, because he speculated Pringles would help Kellogg increase profits. Kellogg has faced intense competition from GM & Ralston, Quaker, Post & Nabisco, etc.. Knowledgeable consumers and nutritionists criticized the high caloric content and use too much of salt in Kellogg’s cereals. Mr. Robert Dickerson, Kellogg’s consumer research analyst, believed that the company should refresh its entire portfolio to attract consumers by changing its image on packaging and rebranding the products. Problem statement: Kraft is refocusing their production toward snacks, and Kellogg can face intense competition. Kellogg’s core market sales, profit, and share price have declined. Kellogg must find...

...A Pricing Strategy to Promote Low-Fat Snack Choices through Vending Machines Simone A. French, PhD, Robert W Jeffery, PhD, Mary Story, PhD, Peter Hannan, MStat, M. Patricia Snyder, RD, MPH Introduction There is general agreement that measures that would reduce the fat content of the diet in the population as a whole would be helpful in preventing or delaying the development of several chronic diseases.1-4 An important question for public health policy, therefore, is how to encourage the population as a whole to make lower-fat food choices. To date, environmental intervention strategies to reduce the population prevalence of high-fat food consumption have focused primarily on improving consumer knowledge through mass media, schoolbased, and point-of-purchase education.-"-- Such interventions have shown positive effects on nutrition knowledge, but changes in food-choice behaviors have been modest in magnitude, variable, and often short lived. Environmental strategies designed to influence food choice through mechanisms of availability and cost rather than nutrition education have received less research attention.5-14 Perhaps the most impressive of these studies in magnitude of effect was a recent cafeteria-based study that examined pricing and availability influences on food choice.'4 Prices of fruit and salad were reduced by 50%, and the number of fruit and salad items available was increased. Purchase of fruit and salad increased threefold during...

Some people have snacks between meals if they feel hungry and sometimes just because the food is there. Snacks are not necessarily unhealthy.
