The idea of resurrection of the body, now is widely accepted by worshippers, was not always an element of Christian tradition. In early Hebraic accounts, death is perceived as a rather final stage, during which deceased is being transferred to the land of the dead. The resurrection of the body was not clearly articulated as a necessary part of the doctrine.
So how has the resurrection concept been incorporated in the Hebraic tradition? Most likely people were familiar with this idea, however they didn’t accept it completely. It was a gradual process for the idea of resurrection was finally adopted. It begins with the problem of martyrs. Particularly, martyrs were not fitted in to deuteronomic worldview of the Old Testament. The worldview that draws direct correlation between personal actions and following consequences. Thus if an individual highly regards God and obeys the divine orders, he should be rewarded, and vise versa - the disobedience is followed by punishment. The problem was that the martyr, though being loyal to God, had to undergo terrible suffering for his faith. Where would be the promising reward in such case when the most zealous proponent of God was punished? Jesus is the ultimate martyr, who died not only for his personal faith but for sins of all. Thus he’s sharing his suffering with his congregation. The person who is living the life of Jesus, being loyal and obedient to God’s will, can expect similar fate to Christ.
