...Haynes called The Heeey Baby Days of Beach Music. It you haven’t read it is a great read on the local bands from the Virginia to Georgia area (East Coast). A lot of these local bands got their start playing local gymnasium’s, college frat parties and in small clubs just like the garage bands covered in our class textbook. Some of the groups would also buy studio time or take a live recording and cut a record. Some of these records are very rare and worth quite a bit now if you can find them since there were usually only a few hundred made. A few of these bands also went on to cut records with some of the bigger labels. The Chairmen of the Board is one the bands that I remember playing a lot in our area growing up. They recorded on the Atlantic label early in their career. They weren’t originally from the Carolina’s (Detroit) but had a huge following in the Carolina’s and went on to create their own label called Surfside Records based in Charlotte, NC. The group had hits like, Give Me Just a Little More Time, (You've Got Me) Dangling on a String, Pay to the Piper, and Patches. The Band played a lot of concerts at a club in Kannapolis called Jerry’s Lounge. The band’s leader was General Johnson who died in 2010. The Fantastic Shakers is another Beach Band that I remember playing at the Beach Music Festival. The Catalina’s was a group that formed in Charlotte, NC in the late 50’s. The band held practice in Charlotte’s Myers Park High School music room (Heeey Baby Days p. 336)...

...“This will be a life changing experience! I promise!” she said, rather ecstatic. “Sure. Sounds great, I’ll be there.” I had just agreed to a church related event that would have me locked in for 3 nights, I might as well sound happy about it. At least as happy as one would be in a high school math class, there are not many things that can change the inherent boredom of such place. Mr. Flores did his best to keep us focused, but hardly ever accomplished it. I never had much trouble with math, so I could afford to deviate my attention elsewhere. This usually meant chatting with whoever was close, which brought me to the fated “…I’ll be there.” that sealed my agreement. I cannot deny that I was extremely curious as to what this event was. I had heard of the Arcoiris youth group, I knew some people in there, but I did not know what it was about, other than the fact that it was related to the Catholic Church. None of it mattered at the moment, all I wanted was to go back home and relax after hours of being in school. The portion of my day that never failed to bring joy to me was the end of the school day, and this was only elevated as we approached the last day of school. I hurried to my car, a vanilla-colored 1997 Ford Explorer. The sun showed his mark on the paint. The missing handle on the pilot door and small scratches and bumps sprinkled throughout all amounted to a truly unremarkable vehicle. Of course, it was dirty, as it often was. The sky was always quick to respond to any...

...Hip-Hop is a cultural movement that was formed during the 1970’s among African American youths residing in the South Bronx in New York City. Hip-hop is characterized by four distinct elements, all of which represent the different manifestation of the culture; oral, aural, physical and visual. The term is often used in a restrictive fashion as synonymous only with the oral practice of rap music. The origin of the hip-hop cultures stems from the block parties of the Ghetto brothers, when they plugged the amps for their instruments and speakers into the lampposts on 163rd street and Prospect Avenue; and used music to break down racial barriers. Since 1970’s hip hop has spread to both urban and suburban communities throughout the world. Hip-hop music first emerged when contemporary disc jockeys and imitators creating rhythmic beats by emphasizing a percussive pattern. It was later accompanied by a rhythmic style of chanting or poetry often presented in 16-bar measures or time frames, and beat boxing, a vocal technique mainly used to provide percussive elements of music and various technical effects of hip hop DJs. In the early days of Hip hop young partygoers initially recited popular phrases and used the slang of the day. It was fashionably for DJ to acknowledge people who were in attendance at a party. Early raps featured someone shouting over instrumental break, which would usually evoke a response from the crowd. Rap caught on because it offered young urban New Yorkers...

...Why is Anbe Sivam regarded as the best movie in the history of Tamil cinema by many? Did this movie have any story at all? First of all is it a movie? No. Anbe Sivam is an experience, not only for one Madhavan but for another few thousands, who care to learn quite a lot of things and feel conceited about themselves, but fail miserably to confront the vagaries of life. What was the movie all about? An experienced matured man and a squeamish, egotist but tender hearted youth (a typical modern day youth) travelling together from Bhubaneshwar to Chennai(East coast of India).Fate hinders their journey in all possible ways which Madhavan initially considers exasperating but later reveres as an experience of a lifetime. The story is as simple as that but the associated scenes, dialogues and the lessons learnt reverberate through your mind for a long time. Be it the floods, train accident or the little boy's death it is Madhavan who breaks down and get shattered. But Kamalhassan adapts himself and reconciles himself to reality and helps in the best possible way he can. While it takes a lot of effort for Madhavan to tell Kamalhaasan about his fraternal love towards him, Kamalhaasan finds it easy to tell 'A.Ars, you are a go(o)d man' (it's not that easy to tell it to someone earnestly). From where did Kamal get this maturity? The story moves into the flashback of Kamal,a communist, who loves the daughter of a capitalist, Nasser, whom he opposes as a worker regarding wages. When the duo...

Damon said casually to Elena as she entered the room, twisting around something on his fingers, betraying his tension beneath the calm exterior. "I'm tired Damon," Elena replied, a hint of warning in her voice as she watched him step closer. "I brought you this," Damon said dangling her necklace in front of her, his pathetic excuse to see her and know that she was safe. "I thought that was gone," Elena said in surprise, Damon shaking his head with the ghost of a smile on his face as memories flooded his mind, particularly when he held the same necklace in his hand, clasping it around her neck, refusing her challenge for him to compel an answer out of her. "Thank you," Elena continued reaching out for the necklace but Damon pulled back his hand. "Please give it back…" she said as fear crept into her eyes, unwillingly as her mind automatically recounted that fateful night. It played in her mind—how she walked in and found him, just like tonight, with that look in his eyes that almost made her run to him when he saved her. "I just have to say something," Damon said stepping closer to her, the words almost spilling out of him with urgency. "Why do you have to say it with my necklace?" Elena said instinctively pulling away from him as flashes of his urgent kiss, the anguish in his eyes and Jeremy dead in her arms. ...

Simula na naman ito ng hectic schedule, little time, less fun, and whatsoever bothersome school works. Pero first day of school sometimes is not that bad, kasi usually pupunta ka lang sa unahan at magpapakilala. Orientations, introductions, chit-chats - yeah, that's pretty much it. Kaya on second thought, I'm going to enjoy this first day lalo na dahil makikita ko na ang aking mga hmm, how should I describe my friends? Loud speaker-like? Loquacious? So ayun, siguro yun ang dahilan kung bakit parang naging "Play Girl" itong si Lindsay, in other way. Hindi naman talaga. Pero all in all she's one of a kind...
