...Inside General Motors: Communicating through the crisis By Marc Wright http://www.simply-communicate.com/case-studies/internal-communication/inside-general-motors-communicating-through-crisis Katie McBride had the hottest seat in internal communications last year as car giant General Motors filed for Chapter 11 in one of the most dramatic melt-downs of the economic crisis. She came to the IABC World Conference to a sell-out session where she relived her experiences of the last 12 months. This was no small deal – General Motors was – and still is – one of the world’s leading automakers. From its global headquarters in Detroit it directs business in 157 countries around the world, employing some 205,000 people. The company produces cars and trucks in 31 countries, including the US, China, Brazil, Germany, the UK, Canada and Italy selling such brands as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, FAW, GMC, Daewoo, Holden, Jiefang, Opel, Vauxhall and Wuling. McBride has now moved onto other roles at GM but as Head of Employee Communications back in 2009 she drove through a three part strategy. “Our aim was to keep leaders visible and accessible to instill confidence in their direction and the company’s future through open, honest communication that involved the entire leadership team and not just the CEO. Secondly we wanted to reach our whole audience globally in a way that was meaningful and relevant and thirdly use employees as ambassadors for our products.” The first part...

...Abstract In the opinion of most Bonnie and Clyde where the most famous and most romantically involved criminals in American history, Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow were two young Texans having and early 1930s crime spree before my time of birth would forever leave their legacy to be criticized by many and envied by most. Most people only live to tell the story of what was expected, but I am here to state the facts of who Bonnie and Clyde really were, grasping your attention, making your mind run full with imagination and placing yourself in the era owned by Bonnie and Clyde the 1930's. Bonnie Elizabeth Parker born October 01, 1910, Clyde Chestnut Barrow born March 24, 1909, both from Dallas, Texas and ambushed in Bienville Parrish, Louisiana on May 23, 1934 killed at least nine officers and other civilians, leaving Bonnie to always have her name placed first in the matter, as do to respect that ladies always come first. As most would lead you to believe by all the hype, what they say was a reality for the two young lovers, this let's the listener carry the idea of Bonnie and Clyde in all their fancy clothes, and broke all the rules of the norm. Bonnie and Clyde never feared the law and lived a life of infamous luxury keeping them on the run. Reality was different, Bonnie and Clyde and the Barrow gang lived a hard, uneasy life left by narrow escapes, botched robberies, injury, and murder. ...In July of 2011 a Nevadan family’s rights were violated by the City of Henderson Police department. Michael, Lisa and their son Anthony had their homes violated by police without a warrant. After receiving a call from the Henderson Police department saying that the police needed to occupy Anthony’s home, Anthony then refused. The Police arrived in response to a domestic violence call that involved a neighbor of the Mitchells. The Police then forced themselves into the home of Anthony Mitchell after he did not give permission and the police lacked a warrant. The police had wanted to gain entry to watch the neighbor that was accused of domestic violence. Anthony was arrested and held in a detention cell for at least nine hours. After the police were done searching Anthony’s home, they moved on to his parent’s home across the street. The police arrested Anthony’s parents and stole food and enjoyed other luxuries the houses had to offer. Police officers had also reportedly waved guns around and pointed them at the Mitchell family, and they had shot the frightened dog with a non lethal shot called pepper balls which leave massive bruises upon impact. This case is a violation of the Mitchell’s first, third and fourth amendment rights. The actions taken by the police were unconstitutional because of: searching a house without permission or a warrant, not allowing the Mitchell’s to give permission, and quartering themselves in a home without the consent of the...

The meeting began with Chairman Clay Wilder calling the meeting to order and welcoming guests. Also, Terry Everitt introduced the dual credit students and students involved in the CNA program who attended the meeting. The first program to be recognized was the Latino Family Literacy Program which has been an integral part in the development of young Hispanic children. Another topic brought up was the CNA program which seemed like a really good first step towards practice in the medical field. Students were given the clinical training of...

...Women in the Pulpit? In churches today women outnumber men in the congregation and women have been teaching classes, heading ministries, and are evangelist. Even though women have filled these roles in the church why is there controversy in the church about women having the right to be ordained preachers. Before doing research and reading my sources I had only heard of a few women preachers who were pastors of churches and I have come in contact with many male pastors who do not believe that a woman is able to preach the word of God in the pulpit. They address them as speakers and evangelists but, not as reverend or pastor. Many male pastors I have come in contact with will not even let a woman stand in their pulpit. They often set a podium on the side of the pulpit. Pastor Marie Nutall of College Station, Texas has body guards because of the death threats that she has received (Nutall). I was not aware of the violence that some women preachers face while trying to preach God’s word. According to Reverend Richard Allen, women were not called to preach for the simple fact that Jesus chose twelve men to be his disciples (Booth 109). This argument has been heard throughout the church, but Professor William H. Myers argues that there are twenty-two different instances where women had been called to preach the word (112). Many people use scriptures to validate their points on why women should not and cannot be preachers. Believers of the word tend to follow along with...

...and beliefs that control your life. It explains how (with help and practice) new, more appropriate behaviors and beliefs can bring the positive aspects of your life into focus (Henderson & Thompson, 2011). This type of therapy approach can be used in everyday situations where there are unwanted actions or beliefs occur with a corresponding response. Many types of conditions have been known to show improvement using this type of approach, for example, mood disorders, personality disorders, social phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorders, anxiety, addictions, and sleep difficulties. The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy is to learn to distinguish between thoughts and emotions. It is a way to look at those things and make some changes internally and then externally (Henderson & Thompson, 2011). One of the main reasons I identify with this therapy theory is because I want to be able to encourage children to be the best they can be and to see that they are important. Ephesians 4:29 states, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (KJV). I want to be the type of counselor who encourages and lifts up my clients as the Lord provides them to me. As I read The Defense Never Rests case study I was surprised at the way things turned out with the client, Ed. Ed seemed to be a very difficult child, with many deep emotional problems. When I began reading, I was certain...

...Preparation to English Term Paper on December 15th, 2015Appendix 1 English in Norway Few outside Norway can speak Norwegian. This means that Norwegians have to use English or other foreign languages when they travel or study abroad, or work in firms or organizations with international contacts and activities. Many Norwegian firms even use English as the main language at work. The same is often the case in workplaces with foreign bosses or foreign co-workers. Besides that, workers in Norway often have to read manuals and other documents in English. If you look at the job vacancies in our largest Norwegian newspapers, you will find that many firms and organizations advertise jobs in English. They obviously expect the job applications to be written in the same language. Actually, all you have to do is turn on a computer and access the net to find out how important English really is. Another example is higher education. At your upper secondary school, all of the textbooks you use, except for those in language classes, are written in Norwegian. However, if you decide to go on to college or university, many of your textbooks will be in English, even if you are studying medicine, social studies or engineering in Norway. An increasing number of courses are also being taught in English, often because of international students or because the lecturer does not speak Norwegian. Just at the University of Oslo, for instance, there are more than 800 courses taught in English. ...

...MGMT 3720 Assignment #1 An evaluation of this selective case study reveals a work environment at the Wilson Construction Company with a discussion between an employee and his supervisor. The employee, Walt Henderson, works at WCC as a drafting technician. He has brought his personal project from home to work on during assigned work hours. His supervisor, a man, named Ken, feels that this sets a poor precedent for the other employees and reminds him that his actions are inappropriate. Walt counters this by commenting that he has not only already finished his assigned work, but also worked while home to finish other company materials. He feels that this should entitle him personal time at work since he gave up time at home for company work. This case study is an excellent example of how attitudes, mainly Walt’s toward his use of time, play an important part in actions, feelings, and behavior in the workplace. Attitudes at work, such as Walt’s about his use of company time both at home and at work, are evaluative statements about objects, people, or events in the workplace. In this paper, I will evaluate the situation at work concerning Walts attitude related to work, his boss, and his time spent at home and work. I will also evaluate Walt’s discourse in order to try to predict his future behavior at work. In conclusion, I will suggest alternative ways on how Walt’s supervisor, Ken, should handle the manner in which Walt’s attitude affects his performance at work...

Methods Typical daily hours viewing television and playing electronic games at age 5 years were reported by mothers of 11 014 children from the UK Millennium Cohort Study. Conduct problems, emotional symptoms, peer relationship problems, hyperactivity/inattention and prosocial behaviour were reported by mothers using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire.
