Henry Louis Gehrig is an all American baseball player that’s shine was always under looked due to his teammate Babe Ruth.

Gehrig returned to sports as a fullback at Columbia during the 1922 football season, and then pitched and played first base for the Columbia Nine in 1923. in 1923 Paul Krichell the scout saw the Columbia baseball team play, Gehrig made the team as a pitcher and in one game he struck out 17 batters earning him the name Colombian Lou by adoring fans, but Paul Krichell was impressed by his hitting skills so much that he signed Gehrig to the Yankees with a $1,500 bonus, with the money he got signed with he moved his parents to the suburbs He was signed the same year the Yankee stadium opened. Gehrig left Columbia and returned to the Hartford team, where he hit .304 that season. Two months after he signed a contract in June 1923, he was then debuted as a Yankee. Despite having pain from lumbago one day, he was listed as the shortstop and leadoff hitter. He singled and was promptly replaced but kept the streak intact. He batted .295 in 1925, the next year Gehrig hit .313 and led the league with 20 triples, for 12 consecutive years he would top .300. and in the World Series he hit .348. Ruth and Gehrig swept the headlines in a extraordinary way. In 1927, Gehrig clouted 47 homers and Ruth hit 60 homers, more than anyone other than Ruth had ever hit. As late as August 10th, Gehrig had more homers than the Babe, as a unit they scored more home runs than every other baseball team together except one.
