This experience observing Ms. Brodsky at Hernando Elementary School has been one I will never forget. I learned, practiced, and discovered more about being an educator than I ever thought I would. I genuinely believe that I was meant to be apart of this classroom and this environment. Throughout the year, I gained confidence and skills that are essential as an educator. Every lesson, every project, and every child taught me something new. Whether it was how to engage students in a particular lesson, or how children respond to various styles, everyday was packed with helpful information. Ms. Brodsky made me feel as if I was her equal. She allowed me many opportunities to gather information and to thrive. She helped me plan lessons, she asked …show more content…
Brodsky I typically sat in the back of the room with a notepad or an iPad jotting down notes. I positioned myself in a location where I could see her and the class at the same time. I wanted to see how she taught and how the children responded. On a normal day, I have small groups, I lead instruction, or I work one-on-one with ESE students. Observation times were strictly learning times. Sometimes it hard to watch someone teach when you’re in the groups or working with students because your attention is 100% on the children. The observation times gave me a chance to watch, listen, and learn. Watching Ms. Brodsky teach is like watching an amazing movie that never gets boring. She teaches in a way that is almost soothing. Her soft, welcoming voice and positive warm smile creates an atmosphere that is perfect for an inclusion classroom. She creates elaborate lessons, fun activities, and a wide variety of opportunities for students to absorb information. One very important quality about Ms. Brodsky that I noticed is her calmness. No matter what situation is taking place she always has a calm aura about her. The children respond to the calm presence as well, and I believe it makes them feel safe. During her lessons she always keeps things interesting. Ms. Brodsky uses a wide variety of resources while she teaches. Her students are always engaged throughout every activity or lesson being presented to them. I have a couple of favorite activities that …show more content…
Brodsky had various ways at handling situations. She always did what was best for the children, no matter what. I admire her ability to handle just about any situation that she was faced with. Being in an inclusion class, we had children that were emotionally unstable. Sometimes these children struggled more than usual, which often caused difficult situations to arise. Ms. Brodsky never let these situations bother her or change how she proceeded with the school day. One situation especially makes my heart smile, and it’s something I will always remember. In our class we had a child with a visual impairment. This child is so sweet, kind, and genuine. Unfortunately, she has a visual impairment that prevents her from being able to see like most people. At the beginning of the year, this child was extremely embarrassed of her disability. She was provided with large print paper and a magnifying glass that stayed in her desk and could be used when needed. The class didn’t understand why she got these tools, and they often questioned her about it which caused her to want nothing to do with the helpful resources. Ms. Brodsky reacted to this situation in such a respectful manor. She requested that the vision department bring us an exact replica of the child’s eyesight. I honestly don’t know how they did it, but they achieved her wishes. Ms. Brodsky took a few minutes one morning to talk about visual impairments. She educated the
