Assignment brief | Unit number and title | Unit 31: Computer Animation | Qualification | BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and Information Communications Technology | Start date | | Deadline | | Assessor | | | Assignment title | The Complete Package | The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to investigate different types of animation and their uses and to develop the knowledge and skills required to design and implement different types of animation. This assignment assesses the following learning outcomes: * explain the different types of animation * explain different uses of animation * explain persistence of vision | ScenarioYou have recently been employed by a web development company on a trial basis. One of the key areas of growth in this sector is digital animation. You have been told that as part of the interview process to gain full time employment you must produce a portfolio on this topic for discussion. A key element of this is your ability to demonstrate independent learning. |

Task 6

P6: design computer animations using different animation techniques

For P6, you must design computer animations using different animation techniques. ‘Different’ in this case should be defined only as more than one.

You need to design and create two different types of animations (e.g. stop go animation, movement, masking, morphing, cell animation, flip animation, stop motion animation) to show to the Multimedia students on an education visit to your company.

‐ Stoop motion animation
‐ An electronic an animated greeting card (E Card)

NOTE: The animations should be no more than 30 seconds long.

Produce annotated design sketches/storyboards for each of the three chosen animations. Annotate the purpose, target audience, timings, key frames, frame numbering and naming.

-------------------------------------------------
Design: story boarding; timings; key frames; frame numbering; frame naming

Task 7

P7: implement animations using different animation techniques

For P7, you must implement two of the animations you have designed for Task 6. Implementation covers:

* Creation * Testing * Reviewing (Compare final product with the original design - evaluation, suggest improvements, user feedback) * Documenting (purpose of creation, format, target file size)

All areas must be completed. You must create a working animation that plays to an acceptable level from start to finish. This criterion does not define the quality of the artwork in the animation, but instead focuses on the technical process of creating the animation.

1) Create the animations in Macromedia Flash/Fireworks, Windows Moviemaker.
2) Print out the finished animations and annotate the techniques used to create them.
3) Testing should be adequate and documented. A test table could be used to test each animation.

Test No | Description | Expected result | Actual result | Actions for improvement | 1 | | | | | 2 | | | | |

4) The review should compare the final product with the original design and suggest improvements, possibly following user feedback.

-------------------------------------------------
Review: compare with original design; suggest improvements

Documentation will probably be naturally occurring as the creation and testing progresses.

There is no need for a formal document to be produced but there must be evidence for all the unit content.

D2: evaluate the tools and techniques used to create animations.

For D2, your evaluations should include consideration of ease of use, technical aspects of the animations created, limitations of the package, appearance of animations produced etc. In all cases, you should look at these facets in terms of good points, less good points and whether improvements could be made to the tools or technique being evaluated. It is the tools and techniques that you have used that are being evaluated and not the animations produced.
