It is that time of the year to when we start bringing out our layers and heavy coats because it is winter and it is cold! But unfortunately, there are tons of families around the country that have to battle through the severe weather without the comfort of warm clothes or jackets. I cannot imagine going through the winter without security of a warm coat because what is better than bundling up and getting cozy with a heavy coat? Therefore, I had an idea to start a jacket drive that starting from the twenty-third of November to the ninth of December, for some of those families that need the security, they drive the same streets as me or sit right next to me in class. One in five children is living in poverty. That is five students in each classroom who are scarce with everyday needs. Families that have children make up thirty-five percent of the homeless population. Of course there are homeless shelters around, but some of them do not offer everyday necessities for the winter time. Health experts have reported that even a two degree drop in body temperature can result in reduced heart rate, loss of coordination, and confusion. It was a lot but not as much as I wanted there to be. I gathered them all up and drove to the Salvation Army donation center in Fort Worth to drop off the contributions. They thanked me and I went on my way. I can agree that the drive went well, but it just did not go the way I wanted it to be. The concept was a good idea because of the demand for winter coats. I can admit that there should have been more detail in the drive. More detail could have caught people’s attention better. If I had people’s attention, I could have gotten the cause to many more people. In addition, the text messages and posts on social media were very unsuccessful. I only had three people donate who were not in my family. In reality, I should have posted it everywhere. For example, on social media, I only posted in on my personal account. What I should have announced it on all the Fort Worth social media accounts. I also should have created flyers to put on bulletin boards or on door knobs. I also should have started the jacket drive sooner because people were spending their time thinking about Thanksgiving. I cannot blame them. On a good note, there were people who actually donated to the cause. They decided to help those in need of warmth and
