...Abortion has been and still is a very controversial issue. The Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade in 1973 truly brought the issue of abortion to the public eye for the first time. For those who don’t know, abortion is defined as, “ the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy”. The most common types of in-clinic abortions are called aspiration and dilation and evacuation (D&E). Aspirations are when a small tube is inserted into the cervix and the fetus is gently vacuumed from the uterus. A D&E is almost the same procedure, except medical instruments are used alongside the vacuuming. In pregnancies late into the second trimester (6 months since conception), a shot may be given through the abdomen of the woman so the fetus’ heart is stopped before the procedure begins. Aspirations are typically performed up to the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, and D&E is usually performed after the first 16 weeks. Both types are very quick. Aspirations take about 5-10 minutes while D&E’s take about 10-20 minutes. Both methods are almost guaranteed to work. There are many reasons to get an abortion, and abortion should always be legal. The classic argument for those that are pro-abortion (pro-choice) is that it is the woman’s right to choose whether she has an abortion or not, hence why those that favor abortion are referred to being pro-choice. A woman should definitely have the option to have an abortion, and denying women the right to have an abortion would be a social injustice. It’s her body...

...What Saves Us First of all, the author of the poem tries to compare two situations in which the young soldier tries to make love to a woman before leaving for war and actually surviving that war. We are wrapped around each other in the back of my father's car parked The first two lines mean they are laying in the back of a car with their hands around themselves, possibly talking and cuddling. in the empty lot of the highschool of our failures, the sweat on her neck like oil. 'Empty lot' means it's probably after school when everyone's gone or perhaps in the hallway. 'of our failures' refers to their past. Enlisting was one of the choices upon graduation back in the day. Lastly, the girl has sweat coming down her body because they are getting intimate. The next morning I would leave for the war and I thought I had something coming for that, I thought to myself that I would not die never having been inside her long body. The author tells us that the soldier is fearful of never making love to this girl before he dies in a war. He refuses to accept the fact that it might happen. It's a now or never thing. 'never having been inside her' means not having sex with her. I pulled her skirt above her waist like an umbrella blown inside out by the storm. Here, the author is describing the situation of how the soldier plans to go about it. Also, he compares her 'skirt' to an 'umbrella' in a form of a simile. If you pull a skirt up, it will stand like an umbrella...

...My school didn’t just have lectures, and worksheets and tests, we spent large amounts of time on socratic seminars; we talked, and we grew. Its at this school where I met Andrea, Taylor, and Destiny, and where I came to know Katie even more, that was my highschool clique, and according to Mrs. Baker we thought we ran the school. I would dare to say that what Mrs Baker said was fact, the teachers loved us, we had lots of friends, we ruled class discussions, and the discussions teachers had after class. These friends motivated me, they were all near the top of the class, and they all strived to best one another, they taught me to be my best self; academically, and socially. We grew from the petty high schoolers who feuded over me calling Andrea a derogatory term freshman year, to the friends who wouldn’t let anyone else keep us down. Not only did I have those close friends who I still talk to today, but I had all of those in my classes that I talked to every day, who made every day worth getting up...

...I hope you are enjoying the last year at your middle school. After middle school graduation, you would finally be a highschool student at M-A. M-A is a great school and you would encounter many new things. So I want to tell you today about some things you might see at M-A and advise you on how to act in situations you might encounter. First of all, I need to tell you that M-A is a very competitive and challenging school. Students at M-A are always willing to compete with others over anything. This doesn't just apply to academics, but it also applies to bathrooms. Because you are a girl, you need to face the race towards the girl’s bathroom every time you have a break. Last year, the school was generous enough to close the largest bathroom in D-wing and make a new G-wing with a smaller bathroom. Now you get to dodge students in the hallways and sprint to the nearest bathroom in order to stand in line for an hour before you can relieve yourself....

...set it free it to everyone. I smiled shyly and refused but I could feel the disappointment coming from my bonca as he turned the music down behind me. I was so afraid of that microphone. It's a fear that still surfaces every once in awhile. To sing into a microphone changed everything I knew about myself. It made me something more, and that was not a change I was ready for. Over the ride home from that trip I decided it was something I had to do. If I didn't I would feel locked up inside myself. It was bound to happen. When the time was right I would. The microphone was a way to free who I was hiding. Not just for me but for everyone. Fast forward a few years and I’m enjoying the last days of summer before my first year of highschool. I haven't talked to my bonca in a while but I...

...One dark and stormy night in a small town called Springfield, there was a boy named Carter. He lived an ordinary life, he went to highschool, was a regular 15 year old boy, but there was one thing. His mom died due to a lightning bolt striking her. It was up to his dad to take care of a teenager alone. Carter had a hard time fitting in at school, he was a small scrawny kid with glasses, and he only had one friend named Freddy who he would hang out with and sit by at school. Most days after school he would go to the library and study to learn about lightning, thunder and sources of light. It always interested him as a child before his mother had passed away, but it sparked an even bigger interest when his mother was killed in a freak accident. One sunny Monday morning Carter woke up to go to school. “Hey Carter hurry up...

...umpire threw his fist in the air signaling her as the last out as she tumbled and fell due to the push I had given her with my glove. My team swarmed around me and cheered loud due to the defeat of my archrival and the achievement of winning the championship game. As the cheering died down, both teams formed lines to shake hands. As team captains, Laurie and I both led our lines. As I went to give her a high five, she swatted my hand away and moved on to the next person in line. It did not occur to me that people could be such sore losers until this point because even when the Bombers would beat us, we would still give them a high five. Years later as sophomore year of highschool began, Laurie and I came face-to-face in the main hallway of Southeastern High School. Laurie had just entered her freshman year of highschool and her locker happened to end up two lockers to the right of mine. As Laurie and I chatted and reminisced about our past struggles, we decided to become acquaintances instead of enemies. We decided that we would need to get past our differences if we both wanted to play for the spring softball team at Southeastern. In the winter of 2015 and 2016, we found out we were going to be playing on the same winter softball team. We went from rivals to teammates, which was a difficult adjustment for both of us. During the season as Laurie and I talked more, I discovered that Laurie did not hate me. She confessed that she was jealous of me because I was a better pitcher. Also...

...*Beeeee*....the bell has rung at Bridgewater High School in Basin city, Washington D.C. Will and Sophia were making their way to world history through the crowded hallways filled with students from freshmen to seniors. “Welcome students to your final week of highschool,” said Mr.Berkley the world history teacher. You would expect teachers to be a bit more chill when it’s the last week of the school year but sadly Mr.Berkley was something else. Considering world history was will's least favorite subject he decided why not go to sleep. “Hey soph mind waking me up a few minutes before the period ends?” “How will you ever learn Will, but sure thing.’’,*zzzzzz*. Quite some time has passed when all of a sudden Will wakes up “Ah thank for waking me up soph,” said Will, out loud to an empty...

...“ Ally! Get ready for school! “ I heard my mom yell at me from downstairs. I so didn’t want to go to school. I know I have a lot of friends and sorts of things like that but I mean, come on. No seventeen year old wants to get up at six-thirty in the morning to go to school. The only reason I probably still do is because this is my last year of highschool, thank gosh. Anyway, I moped out of my blankets and threw on some clothes. Thankfully, my parents have a pretty good amount of money, so I can stick up with the trends. I walked out of room and got on the elevator. Yes, if you’re wondering, I do have an elevator in my house. So I guess my parents do have a substantial amount of money, but that doesn’t mean I’m a snob. My dad, Dean Smith owns his own business because he created his own invention. It’s called a knowledge downloader. You can sink stuff...

...people. In my opinion it means doing what's right whether people are watching or not. Integrity is not doing the right thing for fame or attention, but doing it because it is the right thing to do. One time I showed integrity. One time I showed integrity is during a summer camp we were on our way to lunch. While in line for lunch an older kid tripped the "weird kid" that was walking to a table. Instead of laughing like everyone else was, I helped him pick up his stuff and get a new tray. I felt proud of myself for helping him instead of laughing and watching him humiliate himself. B. Explain a time when you have shown integrity where nobody knew what you did One time I showed Integrity when no one was looking. I was walking through the hallway and I saw a wallet on the ground. At first I thought I should look through it and find anything good, but I realized that would be better to put it in the lost and found so the person who lost it could find it. I felt good about myself because I felt that I had done the right thing. I never told anybody about what I did, but I will always remember it. He had the most endearing personality that everyone just loved. When I was a freshman in highschool, I had decided that I wanted to do a year without soda for a New Year's Resolution. ...A compound word is made when two words are joined to form a new word. Definition In English, words, particularly adjectives and nouns, are combined into compound structures in a variety of ways. And once they are formed, they sometimes metamorphose over time. A common pattern is that two words — fire fly, say — will be joined by a hyphen for a time — fire-fly — and then be joined into one word — firefly. In this respect, a language like German, in which words are happily and immediately linked one to the other, might seem to have an advantage. There is only one sure way to know how to spell compounds in English: use an authoritative dictionary. There are three forms of compound words: the closed form, in which the words are melded together, such as firefly, secondhand, softball, childlike, crosstown, redhead, keyboard, makeup, notebook; the hyphenated form, such as daughter-in-law, master-at-arms, over-the-counter, six-pack, six-year-old, mass-produced; and the open form, such as post office, real estate, middle class, full moon, half sister, attorney general. How a word modified by an adjective — "a little school," "the yellow butter" — is different from a compound word — " a high school," "thepeanut butter" — is a nice and philosophical question. It clearly has something to do with the degree to which the preceding word changes the essential character of the noun, the degree to which the modifier and the noun are inseparable. If you were diagramming a sentence with a...

...Lovers Or Friends “Wake up Eric time to go to school its your first day, don't want you to be late on your first day of school” Eric mom yelled. “Coming mom” said Eric, “Wait one second and let me put on my shirt” Eric added. The bus pulled up in front of the white picket fence house and Eric is still not ready so he grabs his comb, brush, and his book bag and rush onto the bus. Everyone on the bus starred at Eric as he walked up the three black and dirty stairs. “C'mon boy sit down so we can leave to head to school” the rude bus driver said. Eric didn't know who to sit by because he was new to the school and obviously he thinks no one is going to talk to the new kid. He walked down the hallway as these two light skin boys both wearing fitted jeans and an Hollister shirt one was wearing green and the other wearing a bright yellow color and both wearing all white jordans looking like a pack of sour skittles. As he passed them 1 they started laughing hysterically, as Eric looked at them with a little smirk on his face, one of the boys says to Eric “what are you wearing, them bad ahh reebok and them bad ahh cargos, school Boy”! He got of the bus quickly as possible until then the two boys pushed him out of his way so they could walk he walked through.
