Into the 17th century, many of the medicinal claims for nettle were much the same. One physician claimed that nettles were helpful with bladder stones, worms in children, and as an antiseptic wash for wounds or skin infections. It was said to be an aphrodisiac and one 19th-century physician claimed nettle seed oil taken internally was good as that as well. Stinging nettle was used for many other purposes besides for their medicinal properties. The use of stinging nettle for their fibers date back to 3000-2000 BC in Denmark. Burial shrouds were found made out of nettle fibers. Nettle was used to make cloth in the First World War in Germany when cotton was scarce. Nettle is not used for cloth today because the fibers are difficult to separate, and other materials are cheaper. You can also make paper out of nettle fibers. The plant was also used for a green dye for clothing for centuries, especially in Russia. Great Britain during the Second World War used it to dye uniforms for camouflage.
