...How HIPPA Violations Affect the Medical Billing Process Ronnie Ward HCR/220 02/12/2012 Regina Kraus How HIPPA Violations Affect the Medical Billing Process Through making sure that a patient demographics are accurate and kept confidential HIPPA is able to affect the medical billing process, this authorization which allows a practice to use the confidential information and to bill that patient information to carriers for services should be placed in the patient file. When pertaining to people infected with this deadly and sometimes fatal disease or virus, AIDS and HIV can be a very touching and secretive issue. This is mostly because those who are affected with the disease are fearful of a breach in confidentiality. The patient fear can directly affect his or her health because the patient will not be seeking medical treatment for his or her illness. HIPPA is an organization charged with the responsibility of making sure patient confidentiality is upheld and that the services he or she is receiving is protected. Because of the patient fear of breach in confidentiality, HIPPA has set rules and regulations in place with criminal and civil penalties for those who violate the patient rights and to ensure that his or her right to confidentiality is protected. Patients who are affected with HIV and AIDS information is not separately addressed by HIPPA, never-the-less general guidelines pertaining to the release of personal health information including the HIV status of a...

...How to Park Anywhere in Ottawa for Less than a Buck a Day Tired of ridiculous parking fees? Need to stretch you’re budget further? Can’t find an ideal parking spot? Read on. There’s a little known loophole in Ottawa Municipal Bylaws. Here is what the legislation says: (from website) (insert translation: In Ontario, drivers can renew their license either annually or bi-annually, but first must settle any outstanding tickets. Since the city caps the delinquent fine at $400, a driver can theoretically rack up unlimited tickets for no extra cost. Let me explain the loophole. Although it’s true that the city can issue an infinite number of parking tickets, the city defers collection of overdue and outstanding tickets to Service Ontario. As shown above, Service Ontario implements a per delinquent cap set at $400 every two years. Theoretically, a driver can accumulate an unlimited number of parking tickets and only pay the maximum fine. Unlimited tickets for $400 every two years? More like $400 for a two year parking pass. Seriously, you can park in any eligible parking space any time you want for $400 every two years. I call this the Ultimate V.I.P Parking Plan tm. This program obviously excludes: handicap and emergency services parking, plus no-parking and toe-away zones. However, the rest of the city might as well be your own fucking driveway. Let’s look at how much money you’ll save. Below are the accumulated parking fees over two years for the largest parking...

...9/28/2012 Your Honor, My name is John Smith. I currently work as a Registered Nurse/ Assistant Director of Nursing at Shea Rehab and Health care Center in Whittier city. I received the traffic citation number 88661PP for turning right on the red light. I did pay the full amount of the citation and selected to attend the traffic school. However, I did not receive the letter about taking traffic school which already passed the due date until last Thursday 9/27/2012. The letter with court # 15390, Docket Number 88661PP 1999, the due date on the letter to take traffic school is 07/03/2012. I am writing this letter to explain to your Honor what has happened and seeking the mercy of the Court to extend the date to take the traffic school. During the last couple months, I did wonder many times why the letter never comes and keep waiting until the day I found out the letter underneath my nightstand. I found out that the mail was picked up by my cousin during the time me and my husband were out of town and somehow the mail was dropped underneath the nightstand. Since this is my first time receiving the ticket, I am not familiar with the time frame receiving the traffic letter as well as the time frame to take traffic school to clear my driving record. I did call the court at (213) 763 – 1539 but I couldn’t get hold of any clerk to ask question. During this time, many significant events happened which distracted me. The significant events as follows: I go back...

...To the honorable judge, In 2/11/2013, 7:49pm, my friend drove me to the Rosemead Bank of America to let me withdraw some money from the ATM to pay my rent, we were in a very urgent situation because I had to pay the money before 8pm otherwise the landlord will kick me out. It was dark that night and the sign was not very clear. just wanted me to get the money ASAP so he parked very close to the ATM, which we did not notice was a handicapped parking zone at all. It took me less than a minute to withdraw the money because it was night and no one was using the ATM. I saw an officer giving him a ticket for the parking violation when I finish withdrawing the money, and half of the car’s body was out of the zone when the officer was giving the ticket, because saw me finish withdrawing and was about to leave with me before the officer came. and I really did not mean to violate the law, we should not park in the handicapped zone even for a second. However, it's the first time ever for him to do that, and he had always followed the law. I actually should pay this penalty if it really occurs, because all of his behaviors were for helping me. Words failed me to express how guilty I feel for, and I just beg you forgive him this only one time. Please give him a chance. Thank you so much for your time to read this statement....

...Innovation ——Underground Auto-parking Building Every day, there are many students who go to UMAC by riding their motorbikes. They may face a very big problem that there is lack of space for them to park their motorbikes. Since they always arrive to UMAC and it is almost time when classes are going to start, they might have to park their motorbikes in some places that are illegal for parking, or they just park their motorbikes behind the other motorbikes in a hurry that will block them when the others want to leave, that is the reason why you always see people have to move the other‘s motorbikes before they ride their own motorbikes to leave, and it is quite a hard task for some girls to move the others' heavy motorbikes. In order to prevent the situation that the messy parking habits bother the others and lead to penalties for parking illegally, we suggest building a new underground motorbikes park which is with high-technology in order to solve the problem and also make the most use of space. It will help our students to park their motorbikes in a suitable space automatically. The new motorbike park is time-saving, space-saving and convenient to the students. Having this new motorbike park, students can feel relieved as they do not need to worry about finding available parking places, do not need to remember the places they have once parked their motorbikes and their motorbikes can be stored safely. You may think the new motorbike park is just the same traditional one...

These two major sub-systems are: 1) the transaction subsystem and 2) the enforcement subsystem. [2] Another example is video technology applications for traffic management and safety. This technology offers both tangible and intangible benefits. Video technology requires a substantial up- front investment costs for the purchase and installation of equipment and training of staff. Due to the complexity of video systems and the rapid pace of change related to this technology, agencies may overlook some applications while using resources to implement less valuable applications. [3] Over the last few years there has been a growing interest in Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA), to solve the problem of exceeding the speed limits. ISA has the potential to significantly reduce the incidence and severity of road trauma in many countries all over the world. ...Citation Contest (Initial Review) Citation #908902164 I recently received a parking citation in the mail for parking in a red zone on 03-10-14, at 09:17 P.M. that I would like to contest. I was brought aware of the parking citation through the mail only per 40202 (D) VC. The parking attendant never put the parking citation on the Vehicle and never made contact with me at all advising me of a parking violation so I never knew about the issuing of the citation until I received a notice in the mail. On 03-10-14 I was working as driver for the company Uber in the city of Santa Monica. Uber is a ridesharing company that allows people to request for a ride somewhere like a taxi. The drivers use their personal vehicles to pick up and transport the clients wherever they need to go. That evening I was using my personal vehicle (6AND311 Nissan Altima) in the performance of my duty for the Uber company. On 03-10-14, at 9:14:39 P.M., I received a ride request from a client. I was a couple blocks away from the location of pick up (near 500 Santa Monica Bl). It is my common practice when I receive a ride request to pull to the side of the road and map out the route to get to the pick up location, which I did. Uber gives you a phone with a map gps system that gives you an icon of where the client is. You are supposed to drive to that exact location because that is where the client is supposed to be. So after I mapped out the route to the gps icon I drove to the location. I was...

...Drivers License convictions to $50 per year instead of $100 per year. In order to qualify for that reduction, an individual would have to get a valid driver’s license within 60 days of being convicted for the offense and submit that proof to DPS. The difficulty with this bill is that in order for the individual to be granted these reductions, they have to either pay for a six month policy and that may be a financial hardship or they have to try and get their licenses valid. There are a variety of reasons why someone may be charged and convicted for not having a drivers license. They could have too many points on their record and cannot pay the surcharges to get it valid, they may have been granted a license but cannot get it renewed because they are not legal citizens or they may have a department suspension that cannot be lifted for a period of time. Regardless of the reasons, there are not as many people who would qualify for these. There is an Indigency program that is offered for individuals who truly cannot pay. If they apply, are qualified and are approved, their surcharges may be waived. They may still have department license suspensions and reinstatement fees would need to be paid, but they would not have to pay the majority of what they owed. To qualify, one must have a household income at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines and must submit proof of a variety of different things including proof of governmental assistance. There is another program called...

...How HIPPAA Violations Affect the Medical Billing Process, Part Two Amber Padgett HCR/220 October 19, 2014 Felecia Pettit-Wallace The purpose of this paper is to relate to ways that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) violations may affect the medical billing process. While researching, the findings conclude that confidentiality of health information was adopted centuries ago. The findings of the research show that although, HIPAA laws have been put into place to protect the privacy and confidential heath information of patients; HIPAA laws are sometimes violated. The medical billing coders are sometimes careless when handling confidential information; however medical health records should be protected adequately. The coder that violates the HIPAA laws concerning the confidentiality and privacy of patient health information can suffer serious ramifications. The ramifications of these violations could result in serious penalties such as disciplinary actions by the employer, monetary fines, and jail time, or both. HIPAA violations ranks number one among the complaints received by the Office of Civil Rights each year. Humans take pleasure in the right to privacy in every aspect of life. The right of protecting the confidentiality and privacy of identifiable personal health information takes first priority and is greatly cherished among most. The Hippocratic Oath, dating back centuries required physicians to keep medical information concerning...

She is also Director of Human Communication Research for the Center for the Management of Information and Site Director for Center for Identification Technology Research at the university, and currently holds an appointment as Distinguished Visiting Professor with the Department of Communication at the University of Oklahoma, and the Center for Applied Social Research at the University of Oklahoma. She has published over 240 articles and 7 books. Among the theories that she is most notably linked to are: Interpersonal Adaptation Theory, Expectancy Violations Theory, and Interpersonal Deception Theory. This paper will give insight about two journals that elaborate on Burgoon’s Expectancy Violations Theory. It will also compare the difference of the journals with Em Griffin’s approach about the theory and how I personally feel that the journals may be the same or different than the views of Griffin. Journal 1: “Nonverbal Expectancy Violations: Model Elaboration and Application to Immediacy Behaviors” By: Judee Burgoon & Jerold Hale The journal discusses that nonverbal expectancy violations theory holds that positive violations produce more favorable communication outcomes than conformity to expectations, while negative violations produce less favorable ones, and...

...Full Title of Your Paper Here in Title Case Your Name here Colorado Christian University Full Title of Your Paper Here in Title Case Communication has many different definitions and many different theories. Griffin, Ledbetter, & Sparks (2015) note, “Communication is the relational process of creating and interpreting messages that elicit a response.” (p. 6). Everything that a person says to another individual is then interpreted, and then the other person responds based of how they understood what was said. There are several theories on interpersonal communication. According to Griffin Ledbetter, & Sparks (2015) a theory is, “A set of systematic, informed hunches about the way things work.” (p. 4). A theory has several hunches, not just a single one, that will attempt to offer an explanation. There are five theories that are crucial to interpersonal communication, and the understanding of why humans communicate like they do. The first theory that is important to understanding interpersonal communication is the symbolic interactionism theory. Griffin, Ledbetter, & Sparks (2015) state that, “symbolic interactionism isn’t just talk. The term refers to the language and gestures a person uses in anticipation of the way others will respond.” (p. 54). Symbolic interactionism has three principles that the theory centers around. These three things are meaning, language, and thinking. According to Griffin, Ledbetter, & Sparks (2015), “Blumer started with the premise that...

...When taking a look at the Expectancy Violations Theory, it is defined as an individual’s reaction to the behavior of their peers that was viewed as unexpected, and can be used to violate the expectations of another. People all have spatial differences, which are called proxemics. I believe that proxemics helps us understand that there is a difference of appropriate and inappropriate touching. Space is the core connection of the Expectancy Violation Theory. Space has relevance to Expectation Violation Theory not only because the theory is rooted in proxemics, but also because it has direct application to the distances previously discussed (West & Turner, 2010). Let’s explore how individual “personal space” within conversations varies with cultures, friends, and strangers as it is predicted and or explained by the expectancy violations theory. The texts states according to Burgoon, can be defined as an invisible, variable volume of space surrounding an individual which defines that individual’s preferred distance from others”.(p130) With that said anthropologist Edward Hall proposed that an individual’s surrounding space is divided into four different ranges of special distances called Proxemics Zones. These zones are as follows: Intimate distance, Personal distance, Social distance, and Public distance. Approriate behavior is associated within each of the proxemics zones. Let’s focus and elaborate on one specific proxemics, the intimate distance. Why? My opinion...

When the HIPPA was produced; they also produced the HIPPA Privacy Rule. The HIPPA Privacy Rule was being enforced, because confidential patient information was being shifted from one medical facility to the next. HIPPA protects an individual’s health information or his /her demographic information. It is also called “protected health information” or “PHI”. HIPPA protects patient’s information such as your name, dates relating to the patients, birthdates, medical treatment, admission discharge dates and dates of death.
