...In the following paper, equality between men and women, in the late 1800 hundreds Denmark, is examined through a literary analysis of the modern play;” Et dukkehjem” by Henrik Ibsen, and through a thorough analysis of historical sources. The paper has its starting point in a walkthrough of the historical sources and their purposed in relation to the analysis of the historical period in Danish history. In the analysis of a schedule for a “normal” late 1800s family in Copenhagen the “old” way of thinking, were a man is in control, it becomes obvious that the fight for women’s liberation has its root at the base of the societal hierarchy. Later, with the analysis of a paragraph from the Women’s Liberation Society it is shown that the “old” way of thinking is slowly being outsourced by the new lifestyle of women who liberate themselves. The analysis of historical sources in the paper are later used as a foundation for the modernistic findings in the play “Et dukkehjem”. The Analysis of “Et dukkehjem” has it’s starting point in various theories of social science in relation to cultural changes and the evolution of equality between men and women. These theories are later used in the literary analysis and in the discussion. The analysis is written as an analytical essay in which the main character, Nora, is portrayed as a women living in a very traditional household with a desire to leave and find happiness on her own. The analysis comes in three parts. The main character’s view of...

...THESIS STATEMENTS IN LITERARY ANALYSIS PAPERS *The thesis statement is one of the (if not the) most important parts of your paper—think of it as the foundation of a house—if your foundation is weak and poorly constructed, what do you think happens to the house? *The thesis statement is the announcement of your analytical argument that you intend to make and prove in the duration of your paper. It is a road map for the paper—it tells the reader what to expect from the rest of the paper. *It should be placed somewhere in the Introduction of your paper—Many like to put it as the last sentence(s) of their Intro which is fine. *Successful thesis statements provoke thought and should read beautifully. *Your thesis statement should include two parts: WHAT and WHY. *WHAT: What claim are you making about the text? *WHY: Why should we care? Why is your claim important? Your thesis should answer the “so what?” question. *A thesis statement is usually, but can be more than, one sentence long. Examples of Literary Thesis Statements: * “Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn is a great American novel.” *What’s wrong with this thesis statement? *An opinion about the book, not an argument. * “In Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain develops a contrast between life on the river and life on the shore.” *Better? How so? What is still missing? *Doesn’t answer the “so what?” question—what is the point of the contrast? What does the contrast signify? * “Through its contrasting river and shore scenes, Twain’s Huckleberry...

In what ways do you believe that the critics' cultural norms influenced their critiques or analysis? I believe that the critics cultural norms influenced their critiques because they are coming from a time where everything The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is okay to now in a time where it is not so I think that their perception of what is right and wrong can me foggy because of their history and where they were in history at that time. c. ...Marking-to-Market: Panacea or Pandora’s Box? Guillaume Plantin London Business School Haresh Sapra University of Chicago GSB Hyun Song Shin Princeton University August 13, 2007 Abstract Financial institutions have been at the forefront of the debate on the controversial shift in international standards from historical cost accounting to mark-to-market accounting. We show that the trade—o s at stake in this debate are far from one-sided. While the historical cost regime leads to some ine ciencies, marking to market may lead to other types of ine ciencies by injecting artificial risk that degrades the information value of prices, and induces sub—optimal real decisions. We construct a framework that can weigh the pros and cons. We find that the damage done by marking to market is greatest when claims are (i) long—lived, (ii) illiquid, and (iii) senior. These are precisely the attributes of the key balance sheet items of banks and insurance companies. Our results therefore shed light on why banks and insurance companies have been the most vocal opponents of the shift to marking to market. We are grateful to both our editor, Ray Ball, for his advice and comments and to an anonymous referee for many useful comments. We also thank participants at the 2007 Journal of Accounting Research conference as well as participants in various seminars, and, in particular, Doug Diamond, Ron Dye, Xavier Freixas, Milt Harris, Charles Goodhart, Raghu Rajan, Rafael Repullo...

Value Investing: The Use of Historical Financial Statement Information to Separate Winners from Losers Abstract: This paper examines whether a simple accounting-based fundamental analysis strategy, when applied to a broad portfolio of high book-to-market firms, can shift the distribution of returns earned by an investor. I show that the mean return earned by a high bookto-market investor can be increased by at least 7½ percent annually through the selection of financially strong high BM firms while the entire distribution of realized returns is shifted to the right. In addition, an investment strategy that buys expected winners and shorts expected losers generates a 23 percent annual return between 1976 and 1996 and the strategy appears to be robust across time and to controls for alternative investment strategies. Within the portfolio of high BM firms, the benefits...

...If there's a specific religion with which you are unfamiliar, research the basic beliefs of that religion to form the basis of a fascinating research paper. Because religions are complicated and dynamic, it's impossible to outline the entire doctrine of a religion in a single paper. Instead, stick to a limited topic. For example, you might research the ethical mandates of Christianity or the gods of Hinduism. Explore History and Religion If you find a particular religion fascinating, explore it through a historical lens. For example, you might research the historical evidence that Jesus existed or address the social trends that led to the rise of Islam. For such a paper, rely primarily on secular and historical sources, though you can use the religion's sacred texts to inform your historical analysis. This study adds to the literature by distinguishing ten different investment categories simultaneously in a mean-variance analysis as well as a market portfolio approach. We also demonstrate how to combine these two methods. Our results suggest that real estate, commodities and high yield add most value to the traditional asset mix. A study with such a broad coverage of asset classes has not been conducted before, not in the context of determining capital market expectations and performing a mean-variance analysis, neither in assessing the global market portfolio. The weight of the analysis will be on the main phases of economic integration, meaning the way the European air transport market has developed and what effects and consequences followed by this. More specifically, the paper will aim to clarify how Lufthansa has responded to the European integration. Finally, we will discuss and give recommendations as to how Lufthansa should adapt 1) The business concept, 2) the organization concept. These two concepts are closely interlinked and the therefore the logical process will be to adapt the business concept to the new market situation following the regulatory trends and successively adapt the organization concept in order to achieve the business concept...
