History of the UFC

Ultimate Fighting Championship, a.k.a, UFC, is a very high intensity/somewhat dangerous sport, that has taken the entertainment world by storm. In this paper article, I will be talking about how this intense sport started, and I will be talking about the type of skills/martial arts that the competitors are highly trained in.
Back in the mid 90,s is when this sport was not known by many, but had an underground fight club, meaning people signed up to fight in a cage with next to no rules. An anything goes match. (Bonandar,2013.) You can't accuse the early promotors of the UFC of failing to think big, in addition to extreme ideas like putting electric fences around the ring they fight in, or having live alligators swimming around in motes around the ring. Luckily, the doctors of the UFC were more practical in their thinking of how much harm this could cause the fighters.
The UFC were "underground" until 1996, when a tape of one fight reached the desk of Arizona Senator and boxing fan, John McCain. He was not happy about what he saw on this tape he famously called it"Human Cockfighting"-John McCain. McCain sent letters to 50 states protesting against the sport and it worked. The UFC was practically shut down. (Bonandar,2013.) Until one of the entertainments most lucritive business deals were made.
Casino billionaire brothers, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta bought the UFC for 2 million dollars in 2001. In three years, they were 34 million in the red. They got their program put on to Spike TV, by offering to pay for the production of a reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. In 2006, the show was worth 700 million. The founding brothers were to fight in 3 five minute rounds with current UFC president, Dana White to be the referee.
There are many different styles of fighting. The main ones are Muay thai, Jiu jitsu, and kickboxing. Kickboxing consists of combinations of punches and kicks, which is an alteration to traditional boxing. Muay-thai is also similar but you are allowed to use elbows and knees to strike your apponent, and Jiu-jitsu is what you call a "ground game", using techniques to minipulate your apponent and submit them using joint and bone locks, that if not stopped anytime, can permently damage or even death.(Muai-thai,2013)(kickboxing 2013)(helio gracie2013).
Most of these Martial Arts originated from ancient chinese-greek dating back to the 8th century BC. Now in the 21st century the United States Marine Corps uses these techniques that have advanced over the years. they mix all arts into one deadly ability. the same training for the UFC fighters, which is a worldwide sport that even you and me can sighn up for and train in any of these martial arts.(wikipedia, martial arts timeline,2012.) i have summed up the history of the UFC, and I also train ij kickboxing and jiu jitsu myself and i just wanted to get the knowlage of the sport out there because alot of people get the wrong idea about this. this is not just a "human cock fight".

Jon Jones Case Study

...Cormier At UFC 197, Will Face Jones For Interim Title Weeks before his scheduled rematch and light heavyweight title defense against the returning Jon Jones, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was forced to pull out of the bout due to a lower leg injury. Cormier suffered the injury while checking a kick in training camp, forcing him to remove himself from the long-awaited rematch against the former 205-pound king. Possibly in fear of suffering backlash similar to that he received for the cancelation of UFC 151, Jones agreed to the fight with Saint Preux on short notice. Jones refused to fight Chael Sonnen on short notice at UFC 151 after Dan Henderson pulled out of their scheduled bout with a torn MCL. For the first time in 11 years, the UFC scrapped the pay-per-view card and Jones was showered with blame, including criticism from UFC President Dana White. This time, however, Jones took to Instagram, offering an open invitation to anyone from the light heavyweight or heavyweight division to replace his injured rival. UFC brass selected Ovince Saint Preux to replace the injured Cormier. Jones and Saint Preux will meet at UFC 197 on April 23 for the interim UFC light heavyweight title, with the winner going on to face Cormier down the line in a unification bout. Professional Team - Marketing

...How a professional team markets itself: Anderson Silva UFC Fighter The Ultimate Fighting Championship, known as UFC, was founded in Denver, Colorado, in 1993 by Rorion Gracie, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter, and Davie Arthur, an American publicist. Gracie wanted to create a championship to prove that the Jiu-Jitsu was the most complete martial arts. At that time, in UFC events, athletes used to fight several times in one night, until only one was the winner. The main idea was to show the strength of Jiu-Jitsu, so there were no weight categories and all martial arts were allowed; a sumo wrestler could face an expert in karate athletes. There were almost no rules and, as a result, it not recognized as a sport (Correia ¶ 01). In 2001, the brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, owners of a chain of casinos in Las Vegas, bought the event. The two brothers promoted many changes in the UFC: they stipulated 31 rules, and the athletes were divided into five categories according to weight. It was also determined that each fighter would participate in only one fight per night. After buying the event, the brothers invested considerably in promoting it and the result is that today, in each edition, the event reaches 351 million homes in 130 different countries . In the U.S., over the past three years, the UFC has grown by 30% its fan base, which is estimated to be 31 million in U.S. and 61 million around the world (Esteves ¶ 04). According to CNBC, the brand Ultimate Fight acquired...

How Can Politics Be Allowed In Sports?

...battle of the sexes. Billie Jean King made history by beating a man in tennis (Not Just a Game.) But that was in a squeaky-clean sport like tennis, nobody would ever imagine women taking part in the main event of the violent sport of MMA. MMA is one of the most violent sports around, two men in a cage beating the snot out of each other in front of rabid fans. Although women were allowed to compete, they were never considered a main attraction. The main attraction in a brutal combat sport like MMA was always reserved for the men.Women were deemed as not worthy or tough enough to compete in the main event, but that all changed in 2009 when a promotion called Strikeforce took a leap of faith. Cris Cyborg and Gina Carano were given the main event. Over half a million-people watched in curiosity to see if the event would live up to the hype (MMA Junkie.) The event certainly did, Cyborg defeated Carano by TKO. The event paved the way for a handful of women to enter MMA, Amanda Nunes, Holly Holm, and most famously Ronda Rousey all entered the world of MMA and eventually made it to the biggest promotion in the world, the UFC. The success of the Strikeforce event even paved the way for more MMA promotions to put women in the main event including Bellator and UFC. This did not come easy however, UFC President Dana White was not impressed and said in 2011 that women “Will never fight in the UFC,” (TMZ). After Strikeforce was bought out by UFC, so was the talent including Rousey and Nunes...

Boxing vs. Mixed Martial Arts

...Boxing vs. Mixed Martial Arts Although the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) is relatively new compared to professional boxing, MMA has evolved into a very entertaining and increasingly more popular combat sport. MMA continues to cement its footprint in the world of sports entertainment while also causing more and more people to see that it is much more difficult to be a mixed martial artist than it is to be a professional boxer. For thousands of years combat has been a way for humanity to settle different disputes. Whether it be a dispute between two individual people or a dispute between entire nations. The world and its inhabitants have experienced their fair share of violence and war. Even today America is at war with individuals who are fighting for what they believe to be the right cause. Combat throughout the centuries has evolved. From huge armies marching on one another on a large battlefield to missiles being fired at a target from half way across the world, the way people fight has changed. Now, in today's society, combat has evolved into something else; a sport. The world of combat sports is vast and diverse. Individuals from all different disciplines of martial arts compete against one another to decide who amongst them the best fighter is. Two of the most popular combat sports in the world today are boxing and mixed martial arts. Ever since the emergence of mixed martial arts, it has been compared with boxing. Which sport is more entertaining and which...

This would result in the US placing a 100% tariff on many European goods.2 The issue was later resolved but it shows the effect bananas can have on international relations. “The history of the banana industry is long dark and complex” writes Rebecca Cohen in “Global Issues for Breakfast: The Banana Industry and its Problems. It all began with a huge American monopoly called the United Fruit Company (UFC) that owned over 80% of the banana production. It was able to get all this business by supporting governments favorable to its practices called “Banana Republics”.1 At one point, the UFC backed by the CIA overthrew the government of Guatemala because of its nationalization and redistribution of the banana farms. Chiquita, the successor to the UFC, has been involved in a huge lawsuit that alleges that the company was responsible for the death of thousands during the Colombian Civil War after it funded a right wing terrorist militia for “protection”.3 "A company that pays a terrorist organization that kills thousands of people should get the capital punishment of civil liability and be put out of business by punitive damages," said attorney Terry Collingsworth, who filed one of the first lawsuits on behalf...

Donald J. Leah Mcgregor's The Man, The Myth

...“The Notorious” Conor McGregor, President Donald J. Trump, and myself. The man, the myth, and the legend, Conor McGregor has truly represented this quote starting at a young age. Born and raised in Dublin Ireland, McGregor was bullied throughout his middle school years. One day he decided he had enough of the endless bullying and began to train in the art of boxing as a form of self defense. As time passed on, the bullying ceased and McGregor came to fall in love with the various arts of fighting. This love and passion led him to compete and train in mixed martial arts (or MMA). Then fast forward later in his professional fighting career, McGregor made history on November 13th of 2016, when he destroyed Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden, New York City. This victory made Conor Mcgregor the first person in history to hold two world championship belts (in two different weight classes) simultaneously. This astonishing accomplishment was a result of Conor McGregor’s extreme dedication to the sport and ability to think outside the box, by risking things others had either feared to attempt or never thought of. The second person I have selected to represent this quote is the current President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump. I believe that President Trump created and followed his own path throughout his noteworthy life. Born into a wealthy family, President Trump had the ability to be very well educated. This education led to him earning an Economics degree...

Women in Sports

...a person based upon their sex. The male is viewed as independent, strong, and non-emotional, while the female is viewed as dependent, sensitive, and emotional. This concept brings upon the question of whether females can do things that are generally male specific and vise versa. In today’s society the female athletics are becoming very popular. New rules and regulations require colleges to have an equal female sport for every male sport that is offered. For example, if a college has a baseball team, then it is required to have a softball team. We are now seeing female athletes excel in sports like never before. Some females are now dominating their sport, like Serena Williams, a professional tennis player, and Ronda Rousey, a professional UFC fighter. These athletes make many question if they would be able to compete against male athletes of the same sport. Although female athletes are skillful, they cannot compete with male athletes in competitive sports. (Hockenbury & Hockenbury 2014). Today’s society would agree that female athletes cannot compete with male athletes in most circumstances. In major sports like baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and tennis the female athlete has not broken the gender barrier. This is because the male athlete is physically stronger than the female; we can look at tennis statistics to prove this statement. In 2012, Samuel Groth set the record for fastest male serve speed at 163.7 mph. While the female record, set in 2014 by Sebine Lisicki...

Labatt Swot Analysis

...Executive Summary Labatt’s Blue needs a facelift to once again be on top in sales of the mainstream beer segment. Competitions among the brands of Budweiser and Coors Light has shown the weakness of the marketing of the company’s product. InBev thought that investing into a Horizontal Integration Strategy was going to help them capitalize among beer sales in Canada but instead have decided to focus on other brands rather than Labatt’s Blue. Since then the Labatt’s Blue has gone down in sales and is now looking for marketing strategies that will once again make them a leader in the mainstream beer segment. We recommend that Labatt’s Blue needs to target the new, younger generation of beer drinkers through advertisement and social media to generate brand recognition. Also through the use of promotions in beer cases the company will be able to spark interest among consumers. The investment into reaching the new generation of beer drinkers will help improve the sales of Labatt’s Blue. Problem: Over the years, Labatt’s Blue has been losing market share within the beer industry in Canada. How can Labatt’s Blue make itself once again Canada’s leading beer brand and dominate the market like in it did in past years. This created hostility for those who did not believe in the socialist revolution. People began rioting and marching in the streets until a threat to kill all communists was declared. Chile’s independent truckers were not intimidated by the threats the people were making. Illegal Downloading Research Background

...Sandra Richardson 090713457 Illegal digital downloads and piracy: What effect is this having on the entertainment industry and is there a solution to the problem? Background. The entertainment industry felt their first blow in 1999 when a student developed Napster, a software program allowing millions of users to illegally download and share music files; sparking the beginning of the hundreds of entertainment sharing websites around the world today. Although shut down due to the Recording Industry Association Of America filing a lawsuit because of copyright infringement and suppressed record sales, this did not stop the development of more sophisticated file sharing softwares able to manipulate copyright laws around the world. Downloading films became possible due to increased storage and memory space available on computers, enabling users to download multiple movies in a matter of hours, even before released in cinemas.
