Anthem Inc. Information Systems Anthem, Inc. is one of the biggest insurance carriers in the United States. It spans multiple states with multiple different names doing business as Anthem, Inc. Anthem, Inc. is based out of Virginia City, Virginia, however a large number of its staff members work from home utilizing electronic medical records for all of its healthcare information system. Anthem, Inc. serves all ages, from birth to elderly and offers different health programs for all their different members. Some of these programs include behavioral health program, disease management program, and complex case management. Anthem, Inc. is accredited by the NCQA, which is one of the top leading health care accreditation organization. Anthem, Inc. has many different clinical, financial, and business applications. The common ones include CareCompass, member 360, and Facets. Because Anthem, Inc. is medical based, the core program uses is CareCompass. This health information system it utilized by nurses, doctors, administrators, and the support team assisting members when they call in and need assistance. Our medical directors have access to CareCompass from any computer they use, making the interactions much more accurate and personal. Anthem, Inc. has its own personal pharmacy department which are able to see member information which allows the pharmacist to check interactions with medications that they may not know about. Utilization and pre-authorization departments have access to CareCompass, but in a limited fashion. The information that these team members receive is from the provider requesting authorization for a procedure. They utilize this information and compare to pre-determined criteria using Milliman guidelines. Anthem, Inc. does not provide therapy services personally, however there are therapists that run some programs and provide interactions with members. They have access to member information as well. Anthem, Inc. does not use any paper records any further. The entire company is electronic medical records, making it a great company to work from home for. Employees can work anywhere in the United States for any number of states that they may not live in. All users are set up through the information technology department. Every different position and discipline have different access based on their position and needs. This access is ordered by the manager for specific access. CareCompass is focused on providing an innovative, interdisciplinary workflow solution that can be used to guide the collaborative care team in the organization. The system is used for many areas within the insurance arena. This includes, pre-authorization, disease management, case management, eligibility verification, and limited medical records. This system provides the needed information to perform the highest quality of care not received directly from the members. CareCompass does not talk with other programs within Anthem, Inc, but allows authorized personnel to document conversations and assessments that take place with the members. CareCompass is easy to learn and is straight forward. There are certain forms and pages for specific information. Each progress note has a named topic that allows for reports to be run accurately. This information gives statistics on each individual associate or as a whole company. The downfall to this is that if the name of the progress note is typed incorrectly in any manner, the information will not pull into the reporting data, making the data inaccurate. There are usually updates to this system about two times a year, which I am told, causes many difficulties for the employees using the system. It takes a couple weeks for all the wrinkles to be ironed out, but I am told that the updates are almost always positive and makes the workflow easier for the associates.
Another program used by Anthem, Inc. is member 360. This program is used to verify identity, address’s, doctors, medications, and authorizations for each individual member. It provides information including when the last medications were filled and to which pharmacy, when the last doctor appointments were and which doctor, occasionally labs results are listed, however I am told this is rare as the labs do not report the results to the insurance company. The member 360 is a wealth of information regarding the member’s past care, billing, facilities, and emergent care. The case managers use this very frequently, making it easier to provide answer to members as well as information to question the member about. One of the down sides of this program is that it is only updated every 30 days, so some of the information needed to provide guidance to the members is not present at the time of the call. This makes it difficult to provide information about authorizations or if a request was requested yet. Although this causes difficulty at times with members, there are other ways to find this information within other systems. This system interacts with the member information tab within CareCompass, although when information is changed within the CareCompass demographic area, member 360 does not update immediately, as the information within CareCompass does. This allows the associate to be able to verify information in two different areas.
The third system I would like to talk about is Facets. This system provides guidance for the associates providing medical advice to members over the phone. The Facets Workflow application includes advanced client service features that improve your ability to research and track inquiries from members, providers, groups, subgroups and non-members. Associates can access a wide range of information—from claims, to billing, to provider UM—all from client service screens. As a result, they can answer questions efficiently and accurately on the first call, improving the rates for first-call resolution and helping to reduce costs and improve client satisfaction. The system includes best practice guidelines for specific diagnoses, information about what is covered for members as well as where the member may be able to find specific services. The downside to this system is it doesn’t always have the information that is needed and the associate is forced to use the internet for some information and guidance.
During my research I learned how many different systems are used to provide assistance and medical guidance to its members. If the associate is not able to find an answer in one system, there is usually another way to find the answer. If not, the associate uses the internet to provide information, teaching, and guidance to Anthem, Inc.’s members. I found it interesting to learn how each individual employee was given access to certain areas of the systems. An associate working in case management was not typically given access to the criteria that is needs to be met for a procedure to be approved, but is given access to the personal medical information. A case manager is able to see what the final decisions are as far as requests for procedures, but are not able to see the criteria to make that decision.
Overall, Anthem, Inc. appears to be very organized and every associate seems to have the appropriate access needed to provide assistance and guidance to the members. The one issue I believe would benefit the company would be having the member 360 update every 24 hours as the CareCompass information does. This would provide more accurate information and save time for the associate attempting to help the member having to change systems to provide the information.

Dream

...Andrew Davis English 101.008 Pease Final Essay #8 12/12/10 Dreams “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” This is a great quote from Epicurus and it touches on the idea that you can achieve the goals you have set for yourself now just as you did with the things you have accomplished that were once dreams themselves. I agree with this idea and this quote. It is applicable with things as small as a to-do list all the way to aspirations as high as the job, woman, and life of your dreams. I myself have three different kinds of dreams. There are the dreams I have while I’m lying in my bed sleeping where I wake up, adjust back to reality, and forget about the dream all together. There are the dreams I have of things I intend to do in my future, such as graduating, getting married, and eventually having kids of my own. Then there is the third kind, the “If you could have anything” dreams. To answer this question, you have to focus on it because it’s not usually something someone can easily just come up with off the top of their head. The story of my dream where I could have absolutely anything I want would go a little something like this. On a warm fall night, I’m sitting in my parked car with windows down, letting the breeze flow through the car. My beautiful wife of thirteen years is holding my hand as we ramble back and forth about both of our days. What’s special about this...

Reflection

..." REFLECTION As I take this time to reflect on my accomplishments during this course, the one area that stands out the most for me is mixed numbers. Through this course I was re-introduced to just how much mixed numbers is a prevalent part of everyday life. Now I take notice of the key areas within my own life that I use mixed numbers, like cooking for my family of four (4); banking transactions and even the time when I am called to be the home handy person. The two (2) concepts that I have struggled with to date are prime numbers and factorizations. Even though I have studied and practiced these concepts regularly, I still struggle with just how to solve the equations. For the most part just when I think I understand, a new twist is presented and I am right back where I started. I am not sure what the barriers are but I will keep working through the challenges. The action step or steps that I would take to overcome my struggles with prime numbers and factorizations are (1) study, (2) practice, and (3) ask for help, (4) study, (5) practice and (6) ask for help. With all of the studying and practicing that I have been doing, I am not sure why I am struggling so much. My biggest fear is that after all of this I will still unsuccessful in my quest to win the battle of mastering these concepts. But before I let this get the best of me, me and my soon to be tutor are going to become the best student and tutor...

...Extra Credit * Describe how could the testing and learning be improved? People are different and all have different ways of learning and doing things. I strongly believe the group work is always a must. Fewer heads is always better than one head. Everyone one has different ways of thinking and coming up with the ideas. A perfect way of seeing other’s side point of view perspective. Another way of learning is a class activity. Class activities puts us in position of actual game where we (students) physically can experience the hands on practice. Last but not least is testing. Testing is a great way to be evaluated, but at the same moment the timing plays a very import role, well at least for me. From my previous experience in one of my ASAP classes instructor did not have any due dates nor the time limits in the testing or quizzes, as long as everything was turned in by the end of the course date. Many student were slightly shocked because if the teacher’s tactic. We asked the instructor “Why no time limit?” and he responded that he believes that the best way of learning when you’re not under pressure. At the same time student will have another opportunity to review the exam without any pressure of running out of time. Of course I did get an A in that class but the best of all I was able to get more knowledge out of that class and learned more then I usually would in other...

Segway Incident

...Kylie Lewis 4/9/14 Block 3 Segways: Terror Causing Torture Devices Treasured recollections with your best friend scrapbook themselves as terror-and-pain-free moments. Well, they should anyway, but with my best friend Alexis’s and my aptitude for disaster, my most memorable memories with her elicit injury-and-terror-filled life- flashing-before-my-eyes-moments. Thanks to our never-failing clumsiness, the four day trip I took with her and her eccentric family to St. Louis last fall break included slips down staircases, tumbles into rooftop ponds, and an accidental masterpiece resulting from a dropped pumpkin. Despite all of these unfortunate accidents, one escapade trumped all of them: The Great Segway Fiasco. Eerie, early morning fog shrouded our car on the morning it all began as we drove down the St. Louis streets toward the Segway rental place; Alexis’s mom had signed us up for a Segway tour. As we arrived at the Segway place, the tour leader presented us with a very clear set of rules. “Now, since your age of 12 doesn’t reach our city-street age requirement of 16, we’ll be taking you guys in the woods today. This means that the path will be considerably thinner, so you need to ride single file. If your tires bump against anyone else’s, you guys will crash. Remember, Segways are designed to continue moving along even after you get off of them, so make sure to lean your Segway against a tree or rock when you step off.” He barked loudly. A Knack for Excellency

...A Knack for Excellence Is striving to graduate with Honors really worth the struggle? You might be wondering, is he really taking it there? Well, Yes I am. What if you gave and dedicated your life and soul, solely on achieving this honor and still don’t make it? Yes, I’m sure it looks great on a resume and one may feel like they have accomplished life’s greatest feat, especially when graduating from a Harvard, Yale, Princeton or any other highly-notable University with such prestigious of a honor; but neither life nor success in life is solely characterized by acquiring A’s in school. So is it really worth it, and what does it truly mean to graduate with honors? As the film “With Honors” depicted, for Harvard it meant everything, but he realized the bigger picture in the end. I believe graduating with ‘Honors’ should be considered more than a goal. It should be considered a way of life, a lifestyle so to say. In the film, “With Honors”, ‘Harvard’ was at the mercy of Simon, the ‘Harvard Bum’ who found his thesis paper. Even though Harvard failed to graduate with honors from Harvard, he essentially did one thing right when he chose to chase a dream of graduating with Honors. He set his goals high! He set his eyes on the prize and began a figuratively climb upward the likes of a Mt. Everest; with Mt. Everest being his graduation from Harvard with quote, unquote, honors. Simon taught them that just graduating with a flimsy piece of paper can only get them so far, that...

...Choice and Consequence Marcus Garvey, an inspirational figure for civil rights activists once said, “Men who are in earnest are not afraid of consequences”. A concept clearly portrayed in John Wyndham’s novel, The Chrysalids. Centered on choices made by some distinct and sincere characters in the novel and the consequences that followed, this paper will focus on demonstrating the affects decisions have on the characters and the story. When David learned that Sophie had more toes then normal he quickly promised to keep her deviation a secret. David was afraid that if anyone found out about her deviation he would lose Sophie. So much so, he even had nightmares of his father killing Sophie due to her deviations. But when Alan seen Sophie’s deviation he did not hesitate to tell David’s father Joseph. Upon Joseph’s questioning, David chose to keep Sophie’s secret. Unfortunately, Joseph gave David a beating and ultimately Sophie had to leave Waknuk. In an attempt to escape, David, Rosalind and Petra chose to runaway to the Fringes because everyone found out they were telepathic. A dangerous and stressful journey for the trio as Joseph’s men hunted after them. However upon arrival, David, Rosalind, and Petra were jumped and taken prisoner by the people of the Fringes who took them to Gordon, Joseph’s older brother. The choice to escape to the Fringes may not have been the best way to go but David was happy to see Sophie was there alive and that Joseph hadn’t killed...

Consumer Insights

...Consumer Insights 1-1 1. Lifestyles centers allow the consumer to peruse the items available for sale in a relaxed setting. Consumers are able to stop and grab a bite to eat or go to a movie during their shopping excursion. The consumer is also able to take the items purchased home on the same day instead of waiting for it to be shipped. 2. Lifestyle centers are not able to house the same large number of shops that a traditional mall is able too. The consumer is limited to a small number of stores to make purchases. If the consumer wishes to visit a specific store, this is not an issue. However, when it comes to browsing several stores the product variability will not be the same as in a traditional mall. Also, during inclement weather, the outdoor mall setting will not be optimal. A consumer will be less willing to browse store to store when the weather is not ideal. A traditional mall, however, protects the consumer from the weather and promises the ideal shopping climate every time. 3. I am not sure what a virtual lifestyle center would look like. I am sure it would be possible to create because online anything is possible. However, it appears that one of the major attractions to a lifestyle center is the ability to stop for a coffee or see a movie and this does not seem feasible online. If one were created, I would imagine it would offer a small variety of stores set up to allow the consumer easy shopping among them all. Perhaps one checkout procedure would...

We took A ship to Ellis Island where we then lived our lives as Americans. Before we left Italy in 1890, we had to pack everything we had up or leave it all behind. It was very difficult to leave out homeland but we had to get away from war zones and the financial issues that were going through Europe. Once we got to the ship we payed twelve dollars each ticket. Obviously I was nervous, everyone was crowded trying to board the ship. I lost my mother at one point, but we met back up at the pole on the dock. I never felt happier. The journey was dreadful. It was full of disease and sickness. My mother told me to stay away from the passengers that were coughing. It took a while to get used to the ship. It was very dark and it had a harsh smell in the steerage. I tried hard to make the best of what was happening so I decided to talk to a few girls that looked my age. Business Continuity Plan Memo

...MEMORANDUM Date: April 24, 2016 To: The Berkshire Group From: Michael Cuomo RE: Importance of a Contingency Plan The key in operating a successful company is satisfying consumer needs in any type of market environment. May it be quick pace, stagnant, and or economic disaster. A company’s survival in any market situation depends on how prepared a company is for all times. May they be the best of times, or the worst. The continuity plan outlines the vital steps that need to be followed in the wake of a disaster. Continuity planning addresses concerns such as a CEO becoming severely sick, multiple turnover of key personnel within the company, or any type of lawsuits that could cripple the company financially and or its public image. A continuity plan has many benefits. These benefits can show the leadership within the company the strengths and weaknesses. This can allow adulterations in a company that can either drastically improve situations or could potentially make things worse. In all reality, it’s always beneficial to understand where the weak links in the chain are currently. In the creation and finalization of the continuity plan, there can be assessments made that can highlight employees that are lacking, resources that are being utilized too much and or too little, and strategies that might be misdirecting. The point of the matter is that a continuity plan can highlight main defects within a company and prepare a company for the worst case scenario....

Physical - Health - What are we feeding our children? Is it food that will give them strength and a clear mind to fight their battles each day. "Our bodies are constructed from what we eat; and in order to make tissues of good quality, we must have the right kind of food, and it must be prepared with such skill as will best adapt it to the wants of the system.
