...Contact Sports Head/Body Injuries Research Paper November 19, 2013 Down, Set, Hut, Hut! The ball snaps, and everyone clashes into each other like warriors in battle. This is what we love about the game of football. While we are enjoying this rugged game, behind the scenes there are players in pain on and off of the field. From them having concussions to broken toes, or in other words from head to toe, every game possibly being there last one depending on the extremity of their next injury they still continue to play and entertain us. In this paper we are going to journey through some of those injuries and issues due to this sport we love and how we could help solve it, and help these athletes we love so much be able to stay in the game of football a little longer. To start off, although we’re just focusing on NFL, I have to let you know it’s not just affecting them, but the little ones we having playing this sport as well. In an article I read entitled, “Hits to the Head Don’t Differ in Age, Research Indicates”, it says that more 25,000 kids ranging from ages 8 to 19 are taken to the emergency room seeking treatment for concussions each year (Belson, 2013). This goes to say that although we enjoy when the adults are doing all this physical contact, but when it’s our own kids do we feel the same way? Well, in this case think of those NFL players as you do your children. What if they could never play again, on or off of the field? In reading another article by Sabrina Rogers...

...Based on your readings your readings, explain some of the main issues related to intimate-partner violence By definition, "intimate partner violence" describes physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse. In this reading, some of the main issues related to this kind of violence include: Jendusa-Nicolai explains how her husband mistreated her by beating her up using bat on the head. This is illustrated in the second paragraph of the reading. According to Jendusa (2004),"I remember clunk, and then I remember kind of coming to and I was on the floor. I kind of got up after that, and he hit me again with the bat. I could just hear the blood in my ears, feel the blood in my hair, and there was blood everywhere."...

... pizza, artificial intelligence, mass hysteria, football, head transplants, and a talking monkey. It takes place about seventy years in the future when everything fun is against the law. You can get sent to jail for road rage, or eating too much, or forgetting to wear your safety equipment. Twenty percent of the people living in the United Safer States of America are in jail, so all the manual labor in the country is done by prisoners. I thought this was a sports book when I picked it up because of the cover, but it’s more like science fiction. Some parts are pretty funny, but it’s also kind of sad because the future looks like it could be no fun at all, kind of like that book Feed, which is good too, only by some other guy with initials instead of a first name. Bo Marsten, the hero, is in love with this girl, and when she goes out with another guy he loses it and tries to hit the other guy and ends up in prison in Canada making pizzas for McDonalds and being chased by polar bears and playing tackle football which is illegal because everything that can possibly hurt anybody is against the law. Bo has only two friends--a talking troll he invented on his computer for his AI class, and an unstoppable fat kid named Rhino. It sounds goofy, but it all makes sense when you read it, except for maybe the part about the mechanical dog that does everything a real dog does including pooping. The funniest parts of the book are when Bo talks to Bork, his pet artificial intelligence...

...1. “I was persuaded to stop writing that book. I started it four more times during the next twenty years. On each occasion, my decision to begin again was influenced by current world events: the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989, the first Gulf War, Somalia, the rise of Osama bin Laden. However, threats or bribes always convinced me to stop. In 2003, the president of a major publishing house that is owned by a powerful international corporation read a draft of what had now become Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. He described it as "a riveting story that needs to be told." Then he smiled sadly, shook his head, and told me that since the executives at world head-quarters might object, he could not afford to risk.” The statement above was very appealing to me, I think it is because my family is constantly talking about how twisted our government truly is. The fact that there was something to hide so they persuaded him to stop writing it makes me realize how intimidating they must be. And then how he talk about all the wars, invasions, and other twisted things he was discussing made some one scared to publish the book even though they believe he needed to be said. 2. “This book is the confession of a man who, back when I was an EHM, was part of a relatively small group. People who play similar roles are more abundant now. They have more Euphemistic titles, and they walk the corridors of Monsanto, General Electric, Nike, General Motors, Wal-Mart, and nearly every other major...

...playing styles, but most importantly there has been a revolutionary change of the NFL culture. The game of football is being played at a faster pace and players are becoming larger, and intelligent (Wharton, 2011). While the sport of football can be stressful, competitive, entertaining and enjoyable, it also poses a dangerous threat of injury. One of the more common injuries within playing or watching football are concussions. Over the past few years concussions have become a more serious endangerment to those who play, from new evidence we have seen on the effects on the brain and how it can affect a player’s future. ...The book I read for fiction is called Last Man Out by Mike Lupica. The book was published by Philomel Books on September 13,2016, with 256 total pages. He became the youngest columnist ever at a New York paper with the New York Daily News. Mike has also received numerous honors. One award being the 2003 Jim Murray Award from the National Football Foundation. This last year he was also named New York Sports Columnist of the Year by the National Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters. Last Man Out is read in third person, and takes place in Boston, Massachusetts. The main character is Tommy as I will explain further and other major characters are Tommy’s father Patrick, his sister Em and Tommy’s friend Greck. There wasn't any distinct tone in this book, it was pretty straight forward. The book starts off by introducing Tommy and his father Patrick. Both of their lives seem to revolve around football. Tommy plays the position of strong safety, which his dad calls, “a monster back”, for the Brighton...

Allow your own words to shine and paraphrase (encouraged by APA)! • learn how to in-text cite if you don't know how (direct quotes: author, year and page # and paraphrases: author and year) • Use same font style and font point (12 point) throughout the entire paper • Do not skip spaces between paragraphs or references. Always start on the very next double spaced line available • UOPX word counts are exclusive of title pages and reference pages. This means that your entire paper (minus the title page and reference page) must equal the minimum word counts. The title page and reference page words are NOT counted in the final word counts. It is still easy to perform a word count in Word by highlighting the area you want counted, hit review, and hit word count & it will give you the #. • Do not bold References title (be sure it is centered at the top of your reference page) and be sure it is plural if you have more than 1 reference • At least 3 references (or more) typically strengthens your paper • Each reference should be in alphabetical order, be double spaced and include a hanging indent per APA • Using Wikipedia or Dictionaries or Encyclopedias is inappropriate for a scholarly paper; use scholarly health care journals or books • Do not use contractions, write...

...Blue Ocean Strategy Robert Lowe Principles of Marketing December 2, 2013 Abstract For a long time many businesses have use a military strategy in order to find profit in an existing market. Fighting for a competitive advantage and battling competitors over a piece of the profit. Taking this head-on approach only leads to an overcrowded market with a shrinking profit pool. This is what the book calls a “red ocean”. Blue Ocean on the other hand wants you to look outside the box and make the competition irrelevant. In the future companies will not succeed battling competitors, but instead finding uncontested market space ripe for growth. Swimming in an area that only has a few swimmers is a lot better than swimming with the sharks. This book shows you six principles that will help companies create a Blue Ocean Strategy. The authors use data collected from over thirty different industries, and have studied more than hundred different strategies from the last century. Creating Blue Oceans It is suggested that companies and organizations need to create demand in uncontested market space, rather than competing head-to-head with competitors in an existing market space. These two strategies are called “Blue oceans” and Red Oceans”. Red oceans are existing companies in the market. Their goal is to compete with competitors for a bigger slice of the pie. This strategy leads to overcrowded markets which make the profit shares shrink. Blue oceans is the opposite, demand is created...
