Gung Ho!

...GUNG HO! Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles, authors of the book Gung Ho!, discuss the process of getting an organization involved, productive, and energetic. By following simple guidelines set by the grandfather of the character Andy Longclaw, the Walton Waterworks #2 was able to recover from the threat of being shut down and become a role model for the other plants in the company. Blanchard and Bowles write that “the real secret of successful management is discovering what people do naturally and then figuring out how to adapt the organization to take advantage of natural behavior.” (Ken & Sheldon, 1998) Using the natural strengths and abilities of the members within the organization simplifies the managing process. As members within the organization are allowed to grow to their furthest natural potential, the management process becomes simpler. Blanchard and Bowles explain that in order to adapt the Gung Ho process, “First, team members had to be willing, even eager to take on considerable extra responsibility… Second, managers had to give up the levers of control they’d worked a lifetime to get hold of.” As managers learn to delegate their responsibilities to their employees, they are able to take on more of a managing role within the organization. Becoming Gung Ho requires an attitude change of the members, who may or may not be interested in change. The willingness members within the organization have to change affects the effectiveness of the Gung Ho process. Managers...

...Ho 1 Tommy Ho Miss. Ghai ENG3U 5 November 2012 A Generation of Music Sydney J, Harris is the writer who wrote “Blasting Music to Drown out Reality.” According to the essay, he describes modem music is “noise” and annoying. He thinks people use to music to distract people from their problems. In the purposes of this essay is want to tell his audience, what music should be, what are the purposes of music, why do people create and listen to music, and how teenage should respect to the music. However Harris used some skillfully techniques to write a strong, convincing essay, such as his personal anecdotes, diction, and figurative language. First of all, Harris used his personal anecdotes for the main elements of his essay. He saw two sullen, slack-jawed young assistants to do some repair work on the tennis across the road, and they brought a powerful portable radio which kept blasting away for a full afternoon. However, the writer is subjective, he does not prove some objectives elements or other people’s opinion, and he only used his personal experience and emotions to judge and determined that people use music as a way to anesthetized themselves. These shows the arguments are individualistic. In the essay, it said, “It is not in order to hear the music, but in order that the vacuum in their minds may be soothed by the sound, so that silence does not force them into thinking about themselves or experiencing the real world of perception and sensation.”(Harris, P5)...

Education

...American educational system vs Asia’s Because of years of declining test scores and behavioral problems of the U.S students, some people suggest that American schools should use the Asian model of education. However, I think it is not a wise idea. Even though, a country has the best educational system in the world, it still has something to be done or judged. Nothing is perfect. American students are rated as mediocre in math and science while American engineers and scientists are highly demanded around the world. The U.S.A is a multi racial country, so it has a unique educational system which is irreplaceable by any systems. There are many advantages in American educational system, but some aspects need to be changed. We need to look in to our school’s educational system. According to “the Trend in international math and science study,” American classes cover too many subjects, so the teachers just have time to lecture each subject superficially. There are no national standards in the U.S schools. Students may choose to go to easy schools to graduate. Therefore, high school students who graduate from different schools are in diverse levels of education. A successful student can not succeed without good teachers but American schools don’t have enough proficient and qualified teachers. In “new math-science study rates U.S students mediocre at best,” William S. Robinson states, “the international average for math teachers with a degree in math is 71 percent, but in the U.S....

They estimates the number of workers who commuted by public transportation in the 5 largest states is 2,345,093 - Let p denote the probability of people using public transportation. Thus, the null and alternative hypotheses are Ho: p < 5% H1: p ≥ 5% - So, sample porpotion: total number of workers use public transportationn = 0,0503 - We have: =0,0503-0,05√0,05X0,9546,622,128= 9,40 - Z test is 9,4 so p-value = 2,7736x10-21 . ...Chapter 4: More on Logical, Information, and Text Functions Introduction Logical functions are those that involve Boolean values. The Boolean values are TRUE and FALSE. Some logical functions return a Boolean value as their result, others use the Boolean result of a comparison to choose between alternative calculations. There are six functions listed in the logical group in Excel 2003 – the functions AND, FALSE, IF, NOT, OR, TRUE – and a seventh in Excel 2007 – the function IFERROR. You’ll see the use of most of these in this lab. First, however, it’s worthwhile to become familiar with the logical operators. Logical Operators TRUE and FALSE are common concepts. They are values which pertain to statements. For example, the statement “It is morning.” is either TRUE or FALSE. We recognize that its truth value may change, but at any particular time the statement is either TRUE or FALSE. What may be hidden here is the existence of an implied comparison. To determine the truth value of any statement we compare our understanding of the meaning of the claim with the facts. Strictly speaking the statement “It is morning.” means the time of day is after midnight and before noon. To decide if it’s TRUE we need to know the actual time of day and compare it to our criteria. It’s in these comparisons that we use Logical Operators: |Comparison |Symbol | |less than |< | |less...

Digital technology restructured our society and changed the way that we do things. Almost everyone, from the very young to our senior citizens, is learning how to use some form of digital technology. It aims to support us in communicating with others, achieving an education, and succeeding in the workplace. There are countless ways that digital technology is being used both positively and negatively. However, the most commonly shared belief is that the good outweighs the bad. We have to rely on our digital tools and toys that it seems impossible to envision life without them. The advancement in digital technology changed the way people communicate with friends and family, seek job career opportunities, and the foundation of the education system. It is important to realize that many people don’t get to see their family and friends on an everyday basis. For this reason, digital technology is a great source for people to remain in contact with their loved ones. There are many social media sites where people can keep in touch with their family and friends. Several of them are Facebook, Instagram, Skype, Twitter, Tumbler, Foursquare, and Face Time. Since many families today are mobile, immediate families and their extended...

By rejecting the null hypothesis we are accepting the alternative hypothesis...
